Candy Club March 2019 Review
At some point, Candy Club did an overhaul of their whole look and subscription model. Looking at the site would suggest it was as long ago as July. Unbeknownst to us, it seems like we were still grandfathered into the old model which promised *up to 3 pounds of candy* which arrived in three 16 oz. (by volume) containers and some loose mystery candy. We ended up canceling that subscription and signing up again so we could get the new experience which contains six smaller 6 oz. (by volume) containers. The other big difference is that with the new model you aren't able to choose your candies like before, but instead pick a "candy profile" ("mostly sweets" or "mostly sours") which determines what you'll receive each month. They also have a larger "Party Box" size that gives you six 13-ounce containers of candy. I chose the "mostly sweets" profile, FYI.
Gummy Unicorns, 5 oz
I love gummies like this, with that kind of whipped pillowy texture rather than being super chewy. These unicorns come in four pretty colors and were delightfully sweet and fruity. They look so sad because they know I am about to eat them.
Confetti Drops, 7 oz
These little guys were another winning treat for me. The crunchy confetti pieces surrounded a gummy inside, with a nondescript sweet flavor and hints of fruit. I think they are so very cute, and cute candy always tastes better than ugly candy. I loved the rainbow colors.
Chocolate Maple Clusters, 5 oz
These were too sweet for me personally, but I feel like if you enjoy chocolate+nut candy you might enjoy these more. They had some sort of maple cream filling that was just too rich for me. I also don't really love peanuts, and I think this flavor would have been better with pecans or cashews.
Rainbow Sour Belts, 5 oz
Yay, more rainbows! I love this little theme this month. These belts are very sour and have hints of tropical fruit. Each piece was really long, making them fun to eat. The crunchy sugary coating really enhanced the tartness of the belt itself.
Celebration Brownie Bites, 7 oz
Gosh, this month is super cute! Look at these little rainbow bites! These have a multicolored exterior on a white background, but inside there is fudge. Yep, FUDGE. They are really tasty, but also super rich, which is a good thing, since I could only handle a few at a time and didn't gobble them all up at once.
Choco-PB Pretzel Balls, 3 oz
I loved these sweet and salty pretzel balls. They have a coating of chocolate and peanut butter and weren't too sweet. They were very crunchy and satisfying. Compared to the other items this month these felt almost healthy!
Verdict: I was totally into the rainbow and unicorn vibes of this month's Candy Club. The unicorns, rainbow belts, and confetti drops were all adorable and delicious! The maple clusters were so not my thing, but I don't love maple flavors or super rich fillings. I know they will be a hit elsewhere in the office. The rainbow fudge drops were also super cute and small enough so that their richness worked well. The PB Pretzel balls were by far the most rational treat in this box, and they didn't last long either. Total, we received 32 ounces (or 2 pounds) of candy. This means that we paid around $19.99 per pound of candy. This sub tends to lean more on the expensive side, but the packaging is adorable and it is a great way to show someone you care about some love, especially if they are candy enthusiasts. Or, #treatyourself.
