Each CAUSEBOX comes with a booklet detailing the items included and the makers behind each item. I recommend reading this cover-to-cover! CAUSEBOX works with makers that give back, support fair trade, ethically source materials, etc., and it's an inspiring read!

Now, on to the items!

Cleobella X CAUSEBOX Silky Scarf – Retail Value $52

(Subscribers will receive 1 of 3 patterns. Annual subscribers get to pick their pattern. See all options here.)

I'm very happy to report that the quality of this scarf is very impressive. (That goes for the rest of the items in the box, too.)

This floral print started out as a hand-painted design from Cleobella exclusive to CAUSEBOX.

It's made from a vegan silk (100% polyester), and the Cleobella team took months of sampling to develop the perfect material.

Here it is on:

Admittedly, I'm not much of a silk scarf person. They often feel a bit too formal daily outfits, but after trying it on, I'm really liking it with just a white shirt and jeans! What do you think?

CAUSEBOX also included a page in their booklet with styling ideas:

I'm definitely going to try the headband approach. I like it as a pony tail accent, too.

And one other alternative use for scarves - art! (I've seen some lovely framed pieces on Pinterest, but since I plan on wearing this scarf and want easy access, I just just used double sided tape to temporarily attach it to a canvas.)

Glass Ladder & Co Megan Portfolio Clutch – Retail Value $120

(Subscribers will receive 1 of 3 colors. Annual subscribers get to pick their colors. See all options here.)

This is my favorite piece in the box - I know I'm going to use it all the time!

It measures 13” x 10” x 0.5” and has slots for cards, pens, notepads, etc. Plus a large pocket that is perfect for my iPad.

There are two button closure options in case you are carrying larger items and need more slack.

When I first pulled this out of the box, I was surprised and impressed with the weight of it. It's not heavy, but the material is substantial, and the construction is impeccable as well. The feels very modern and classic at the same time. I think it will hold up well for years.

This is going to be my go-to for all travel now:

iPad, iPhone, and lip balm all tucked away!

And there's an outer pocket as well!

Marina De Buchi Luxe Charm Bracelet – Retail Value $37

(Subscribers will receive 1 of 2 designs. Annual subscribers get to pick their design. See all options here.)

This delicate gold plated bracelet has two stars and a moon charm - I love it! Here it is on:

And the mission behind the brand gives even more significance to each piece:

In 2014 Marina De Buchi designed her first collection with the purpose was to raise awareness to help fight human trafficking, also contributing 10% of the sales price directly to The A21 Campaign (anti-human trafficking organisation).

KALOS Mist Congeniality Elixir Toning Mist – Retail Value $22

This mist is ingredient-conscious, and designed to provide immediate hydration while improving overall skin tone over time. You can use it throughout the day, post-cleanse before you apply your serums, creams, etc., too. I found the mist to be gentle and refreshing. The spray itself could be a little finer, so I'd recommend hold it at arm's length if you are applying over makeup.

And another wonderful thing to call out about this brand: they give 5% of Kálos' sales to non-profits supporting girls education around the world.

COSMEDIX GLOW Bamboo Brightening Mask – Retail Value $54

More ingredient-conscious skincare!

This mask is designed to help improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and discoloration. The formula has a gentle exfoliation (you can use it up to three times a week), and a subtle citrus scent. You apply a thick layer to damp skin, massage, then wait 10 minutes to remove. While I hope to notice improvements in my skin tone with time, immediately my skin felt SO smooth after I removed the mask!

Ettitude Bamboo Lyocell Eye Mask – Retail Value $15

I'm a super sensitive sleeper, so I wear a sleep mask every night - and this one works for me!

The elastic band is thick, so you don't have to worry about it slipping, and the material is very comfortable.

And I love that it is machine washable! (The 100% Organic Bamboo Lyocell fabric is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, too!)

WYLD French Pink Clay Konjac Sponge – Retail Value $16.90

If you aren't familiar with a konjac sponges, you wet it before using at it becomes soft. It's excellent for a very gentle exfoliation you can use daily.

This sponge is infused with French Clay to help removes dirt, oil, makeup and build-up in pores.

And once you are done using it, just hang it up to dry!

ALTRU Macrame Plant Hanger – Retail Value $14

ALTRU is the in-house CAUSEBOX brand - and everything product they make connects back to a cause. In this case, they planted 8000 trees throughout California - in the areas that have been most affected by recent wildfires.

Again, the quality of these piece is impressive!

I used it to hang this aloe plant, but you can use it for non-plant holding, too! 🙂

(CAUSEBOX also recommends using it to hold a fruit bowl!)

Alja Horvat Exclusive Art Print - Value Listed $14

And in every box, CAUSEBOX works with an artist to design the box and artwork. These little postcard-sized prints are great for framing!

Verdict: This CAUSEBOX has a value of about $340.90! As usual, I am so impressed with CAUSEBOX. I love their mission of working with brands + companies that give back, support fair trade, etc., and the box curation is equally amazing. The value is great for $54.95, and I think this may be my favorite CAUSEBOX of all time. I was showing this box to everyone at the MSA office - the quality of every item is so good, the colors and prints are perfect for spring, and there are so many practical + special items!

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! But hurry—they go fast!

I received my causebox today, loved everything but I got the blue ans the key bracelet ans would really like the yellow scarf and the moon/star bracelet. Anubis got those and wants to swap? I looked at the swap section but it seems People want to sell there. I live in Brooklyn NY if someone is in that area and can swap in person even!

Hi! I am thinking about subscribing but I can’t decide between the pink or black portfolio. Does the pink one show a lot of dirt/wear?

Reply ButtonReply

Susan Moore

I got the pink, and I love it! But I am careful with it. No worries so far.

Hi!
I received my first CauseBox today. I know … a bit late to the game. I finally decided to purchase it because of the added water bottle during Earth week. Anyway, I received the black portfolio and I’m not too sure about the color. If given the choice, I would have loved one of the other colors. I checked in the swap section and no one wanted to trade solely for color. If anyone is interested in trading their never used portfolio in blush or cloud for my black one, please let me know. If we have to move this over to the swap section, that’s ok too!
Thanks so much,
xx
Keri

Does anyone know what happens to the leftover stock from Cause Box? Do they ever offer it for sale. I received the black portfolio and I wanted the pink and was hoping I could purchase it later on separately. I really did not have the extra funds for an annual membership at the time, but now I wish I would have been able to do the annual one and chose

This is my second box and overall I am impressed with the contents. My favorites are the facial sponge, mask and mist – all work great and do not break out my skin, I will probably buy these again. I also love the scarf, not sure if I would have chosen this in a bigger selection. The stuff I am not crazy about are the macrame plant holder (I’m not into stuff like this), the bracelet is too delicate for my wrist and the portfolio is fine, though the blush color will probably get marked up. I don’t expect to love everything but the facial stuff definitely brought this box to a higher level, and shows me the thought going into the products that are not only for a good cause but are high quality.

This is the second time that I haven’t gotten any form of shipping notification or tracking info for my box, which concerns me. I’d like to know if I should be keeping an eye out for these things. Is that just not a thing that they are doing anymore?

Anyhow, so far I’m loving the skin care items. The facial mask and sponge are awesome. I like the toner, but not for it’s intended purpose. I’ve been carrying it in my work back and using it to refresh my curls toward the end of the day. I love the concept of the portfolio, but haven’t been able to use it yet. Right now I’m just letting it air out since it really does stink. The quality of the scarf is impressive, and I love it way more than I thought I would.

Awesome box!! I just got it today! I’m not an annual subscriber, but I got lucky and got the colors I wanted for the portfolio and scarf (black and blue, respectively). The only thing I won’t use is the bracelet, but hopefully I can gift that to someone who will enjoy it.

I’m not a fan of gold, so I just picked up a silver leaf paint pen to change the portfolio hardware – carefully – to silver. So it’s turned into a DIY project, but I’ll love using it more if it doesn’t clash with my other bags/jewelry.

I got my box today and I love it! I got the black portfolio (love it, so professional and classic looking, fits my iPad perfectly) and the blue scarf (the one I would’ve chosen). I’m swapping the bracelet and beauty items. I’ll use the plant hanger. Good box for spring in that I’ll use a lot of the professional items for work. The sleep mask I got was white which is a bummer since my face cream will prob stain it.

I am sooo disappointed in the smelly black plastic portfolio…and, I was never asked what colors I would want…black just doesn’t say ‘Spring’ to me! I would have preferred the blush color for Spring. Also, I received the key bracelet, which I have no use for & would have picked the moon & stars bracelet, if that was an option. I never wear gold, so of course they sent the gold dot scarf….Aqua is a favorite color of mine, and had I been told I could pick which ones I wanted, I would have done so!! And, the macrame….I’m just hoping one of my granddaughters will enjoy it!
I must say, though, I did really enjoy my winter causebox….I was able to pick which poncho I wanted and the necklace over the earrings….sometimes having a choice makes a big difference!

Lisa

Want to swap me for my pink one? I’d prefer black.

Reply ButtonReply

Chantel

Did you find anyone to swap? I have black…

Megan

I am also an annual subscriber and missed the ONE email where they asked for selections! I got the pink padfolio and would LOVE to swap for your black one. I can’t sign up to swap because I’m new to this site. Want to email me or connect via Facebook?

Sandy Taets

I would love to swap my black portfolio for your pink one! So how do we do this? It says not to enter my email address, so I’m not quite sure what we need to do….I’m new to this too, but we can swap them via Causebox? Maybe we can figure this out!

I got my box today, and I got my first-choice pink portfolio, which is beautiful! The vegan leather is soft and supple and is a nice weight, too. However, I’m sorry to report that the opening at the top is about 1/4″ too small for a 13″ MacBook Air (the smallest version of the Air), so there’s no way a MacBook Pro, which is larger than 13″ MacBook Air, could fit in it. Such a shame; if it had been made just a tiny bit larger, it would have been so much more useful to Mac laptop users. It will be pretty for holding notebooks and pens and cards and such, but I can’t use it as a laptop sleeve, which is the main thing I had hoped to do.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin Elsmore

Thank you for the info about the MacBook Air. I’ve been debating getting this box and now I know it wouldn’t work…

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

My 13″ Macbook Pro fits in there perfectly.

Reply ButtonReply

C02

Correction: I have a MacBook Air: 12.8 x 8.94 x 0.11-0.68 inches. And it doesn’t fit. ignore that last comment.

C02

Kay, do you have a picture of that because my 13″ Macbook Pro does not fit my pink portfolio?

Aimee

That’s the Mac I have, too and thought maybe mine was just made differently b/c I read the 13” regular MacBook fit in it. Nearly ripped the thing trying to get my computer into it….total bummer.

Kristin

I have a weird question why are so many things in the box made in China? I thought I was helping global artists. I’m confused

Reply ButtonReply

Sally

Did you read the review? It says that they do good by….and may include employing local artisans. So no they don’t promise to employ artisans they just pledge to help so that includes donations to charity or using companies that donate. I think you are thinking of another sub box called Globein that only uses small groups of artisans.

Reply ButtonReply

Kc

I can’t wait for this to ship! I’m excited about the surprise element of seeing which versions I get since I’m not favoring any particular color or pattern.

Reply ButtonReply

Joyce

I was wondering if this box does add ons or if its just the box?

Reply ButtonReply

Just the box, Joyce.

Hi Liz! This comment has nothing to do with this box…I really want to let you know that I LOVE the new format/template that you have for the site (I just noticed it today 03/18/2019).

Reply ButtonReply

Anita F

I really hope I get a shipping email soon. I was billed March 1 and I’m waiting anxiously. Wasn’t that excited until I read your review. Really want the plant hanger and the portfolio sounds nice and useful too!

A $120 vegan leather clutch portfolio should not smell like a tire store (unless it’s made in China, which it is). Too bad it’s thin and flimsy.

Reply ButtonReply

Donna

I have found that most of their “vegan leather” items have a strong chemical smell… that never goes away. They are cheap plastic. I’m not against non-leather but gold plastic does not have this smell.

Reply ButtonReply

skylark

I’m airing mine for a couple of days, hope the smell will be less offensive. I wouldn’t pay $120 for it, but for the cost breakdown (about ~$20) I’m happy to get the box.

It seems very popular in the swap store. I figured I might as well just order a box rather than competing at swaps.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

It is made in China!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

I received my box today and must say I was initially underwhelmed with the portfolio. It seemed a little flimsy, and I was disappointed that it had a strong chemical smell out of the box. It’s also “ethically made in China” which seems like an oxymoron but maybe I need to do more research.

All that said, it is super, super soft and has been growing on me every time I pick it up. I think once I figure out just what to put in it, it will become a handy part of my work life.

Everything else was beautifully packaged and appears high quality. I actually love the plant hanger more than anything since I had a plant and hook in the house that were perfect for it. My kids found the scarf to be the biggest hit. They spent about an hour trying it on in various ways.

Overall, I am happy and felt this box was well worth the money.

Dagmar

Great review, I also chose the pink portfolio, scarf and same bracelet. Now, I am really looking forward to receiving my box. Everything looks sooooooo good!

Kristin

Liz where did that cute cat pen come from?

Reply ButtonReply

L

I have a question unrelated to this post. I am moving out of a toxic relationship and want to decorate my new spot starting from scratch, but I don’t want, like, Ross Dress for Less decorations. Are there boxes with a focus of household or lifestyle items. I’m not necessarily thinking wall art but like cute bowls, trays, soap dishes, baskets, that sort of thing. I’d take wall art too, but I kind of want to start from the bottom up. I may post this on another thread looking for help so my apologies if you stumble across this twice.

Reply ButtonReply

Chantel

Sundae home! It’s amazing!!

Reply ButtonReply

Noelle

Popsugar Must Have usually has some cute home decor. This season was a bit of a flop in that area though. Winter 2018 had a very nice throw, a candle, and a. Cute Kate spade calendar. The fall 2018 box has the tray and the scarf organizer that could be used several cute ways. That and you get some nice skin care/beauty/self-care items that are always important in your situation.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I like sundae home and decocrated. I’ve had my eye on third & main too, but they’re too rich for my blood.

Reply ButtonReply

atb

GlobeIn has stuff like this (and a store too!).

Reply ButtonReply

Leigh

Yes I was going to say Globe In, too! But a lot of other boxes send clocks, vases, trinket boxes, trays, candles, drinkware, salt and pepper shakers, cozy throws, etc. Maybe keep your eye on swaps for these items if you don’t want to subscribe to full boxes. And sometimes the special edition boxes have themes like hosting or nesting. Good luck and have fun decorating your new pad!

L

Great, thank you! I’ll definitely check that out.

Lisa

How do you all get your boxes so early? I’m an annual subscriber, put in my selection choices a long time ago and see on the website that my order might not ship for awhile. (I’m on the east coast, do you think that matters?) I’m not complaining, just eager to get the box, especially after this nice review.

Reply ButtonReply

Leigh

I was scheduled to get mine yesterday but now FedEx says Monday. I’m in Indiana and there’s some crazy weather happening in the southern Midwest states so that may be holding up your box. But if there’s no shipping info on your account page you might contact them.

Reply ButtonReply

Joyce

What part of the country does this box come from? It doesn’t say on the website and I was just curious.

Christianne

That folio is one of the most practical yet chic items I’ve ever seen in a sub box. I usually avoid “vegan” leather items, but Liz’s review convinced me to order this box. The scarf also looks cute and the plant hanger will be put to good use. I’ve never been interested in causebox before as the curation never totally appealed to me style-wise. However if the curation of this box signals a slightly more stylish, fashion-forward direction from now on, I’m totally on board to become an annual subscriber.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

So glad to hear you love the curation + style of this box, too! I’m totally with you on the folio – everyone I’ve shown it to has been impressed, too! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Noelle

I know! They were always very hit or miss with me. Sometimes the boxes were great, other seasons they were just totally off and unappealing to me. I have loved every box since Summer 2.0 this past year, so I finally bit the bullet and went annual with this box. I was questioning my decision to get the pink portfolio and rose scarf, but Liz’s review has put my mind at ease.

Olga

Liz has a gorgeous haircut. I am trying to get mine like that too!
