GlobeIn March 2019 "Tasting Box" Review
Each box from GlobeIn contains a booklet that talks more about the theme for the box and the items inside. This little booklet is almost as valuable to me as the items inside the box because it gives background on each piece and often gives the names and shows photographs of the artisans who made them! I absolutely love knowing more about each item and the hands that crafted it.
Just a heads up, since there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items, so I'm going off the prices given in this Globein spoilers post for items I couldn't find online.
Tasting Glasses - Turquoise Rim Set of 4, Mexico - Listed Value $45.00
I absolutely loved the pair of Mexican glass mugs from last month, so I was happy to see more of the same glass work in these smaller flight glasses. My husband brews beer in the summer and winter months, so I love the idea of using these light glasses to let friends and family sample his newest creations. Made in Mexico by an artisan names Geraldo, the handiwork and craft in these glasses are easy to see. Each one is just slightly different and special on its own. Geraldo has the most infectious smile I have ever seen, and I can't help but imagine how much he loves his work.
Hand-carved Flight Stand, India
The perfect compliment to our glasses comes in the form of this elegant and minimal flight stand carved in India from eucalyptus wood. Carved by a master woodworker named Ashok, this beautifully grained board holds the glasses perfectly! I love the color of the wood paired with the optimistic blue rim of the cups. All together, these pieces are far too pretty to reserve just for tastings, and I think they could easily hold my favorite spring blossoms in a place of honor on my living room mantle. I feel like it would also be perfect for holding colorful glass votives.
Here are our beautiful glasses on the flight stand. They are a perfect fit! Leave it to this sub to create a beautiful pairing of artisan items from two countries far, far away from each other!
Handwoven Bottle Coaster, Rwanda - Listed Value $18.00
This is actually my favorite item this month because I am obsessed with woven goods and baskets. This sturdy little basket is a rainbow of beautiful colors that feel feminine but would work in any decor easily. Although this treasure is meant for holding your favorite booze, I feel like I will enjoy it daily on my vanity. Handwoven by an artisan from Rwanda named Eulerie, this piece will now hold little treasures such as rings, earrings, beauty samples, and other special items. I have always fallen in love with the baskets from this sub, of every shape and size, and wish they would just do a basket subscription for other people like me who find them just magical.
Tasting Journal, India - Listed Value $12.00
I love that this little tasting journal is a great purse size and also hot pink! The cotton cover has a pretty texture and the silver printed design is just lovely. I have been wanting to get more into truly recording my thoughts on the wines and beers I enjoy, and this travel-friendly book has all the prompts to make sure I am recording my thoughts down descriptively and accurately. Made by an artisan named Seeti, her 13+ years of papermaking experience absolutely shows in the quality and beauty of this little book.
Bottle Opener Necklace, India - Retail Value $26.00
I love jewelry with hidden functions, so this necklace is a total win for me. The beautiful pendant has a floral engraving and a negative space/hole that is actually the perfect size for opening bottles. The steel is shiny and there is a pretty patina that makes the engraved design really pop! It comes on a cheerful blue cord, but I actually think I will transfer it to a longer sterling chain to make it look a little more like something I could wear daily. The blue cord does have adjustable sliding knots for the perfect fit.
The Verdict: GlobeIn was so so good this month! I loved every single item! The flight set is perfect for when you have guests or feel like an adventurous tasting of new beers or wines. Since I love it so much I plan on keeping it out much more often than that as a really creative and beautiful flower vase. The tasting journal is a great compliment to it, but also will live in my purse for those times when I am out to brunch and stumble upon a new bottle or brew. The bottle opener necklace is so clever and stylish and will make me the envy of my friends at sunny gatherings this spring and summer. My favorite item is the woven bottle holder. It is just so happy and colorful and makes me grin every time I look at it. The value of this box is at least $101, even without the wooden flight tray that did not have a listed value in our spoilers post and was not in their store. This is double the price of the $50 box, so it is a good value. The thoughtful booklet with artisan info and careful curation add even more value in my opinion. I can't wait for next month!
