Macy's Beauty Box March 2019 Review
Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included:
You’ll also receive a $5 off coupon, which is good for beauty purchases in-store and online.
And just like Ipsy, with each box you’ll receive a new makeup bag:
I adore this holographic pouch.
The bag is a little futuristic and just perfect for the Galactic Muse theme this month.
Now, on to the items!
Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel, 15 ml - Estimated Value $7.20 (Buy a full size 100 ml for $48.00)
I have tried a similar product before and I am not going to pretend to understand how these peeling gels work, but I will admit that they are delightfully gross. Kind of like the enjoyment you get from a nose patch! You apply this gel, leave it on for up to five minutes, and then rub it away. It turns into little pills of dirt and grime and really makes you doubt the power and effectiveness of your cleanser. I can't quite decide if it actually lifts that much dead skin, or if the little pills are mostly formula. Either way, it is a fun product and leaves my skin even cleaner and more refreshed.
Skin Glow Hydra-Gel Eye Mask - Retail Value $5.00
I like little eye patch masks and these cute pink ones were no exception. They were in these cute little shooting heart patterns and left my undereye feeling super hydrated. They did not have much of a scent and the clear serum on the hot pink gel material left no stickiness after I removed them.
SK-II Facial Treatment Essense, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $33.15 (Buy a full size 5.4 oz for $179.00)
I love essences, but they can be so expensive! This one is pricy, but I loved being able to try this pretty generous sample. This essence has a water texture and absorbed into my skin almost immediately. Essences like this are meant to be used on your face after you cleanse and tone, but before you moisturize. simply soak up a cotton ball or round and put and rub it into your skin. This is one of those products that you don't really notice working until after a few days, but it absolutely adds brightness and helps even out your skin's texture with continued use. It is also a great option for someone with oilier skin who needs to add a little moisture but shies away from lotions and creams.
Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Fairy Tail, 3 g - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $24.00
I love me some Stila! This fun formula goes on a little sheer, but it buildable to be quite dramatic. It dries down rather quickly, but you can certainly blend it easily if you are quick! This color is sort of a grey/brown base with purple and gold glitters. I actually don't have anything quite like this, so I am excited to add it to my collection. When it dried it stays in place all day!
This one was hard to swatch! I applied with a very heavy hand to try and get more colors for this shot, but you can also wear it very sheer!
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, 0.12 oz - Estimated Value $4.68 (Buy a full size 1 oz for $39.00)
This powder is so fine and smooth! It lays down on my skin effortlessly and locks my favorite makeup looks in place while giving my skin a nice velvet/matte finish. This little mini size is the perfect option for my weekend kit.
Mugler Men's ALIEN MAN Eau de Toilette Spray, 0.04 oz - Estimated Value $1.60 (Buy a full size 1.7 fl oz for $68.00)
This scent is literally all of my favorite things! I know it is a men's scent, but I wore it all week and got loads of compliments. It is a heady, heavy leather smell with spices, woods, and amber playfully making appearances. It smells like campfires and incense, and a night sky. Even though it is a toilette spray, it has amazing presence and staying power. This is one I will absolutely be purchasing for my personal collection.
Mugler ALIEN Eau de Parfum Spray, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $3.36 (Buy a full size 1 oz for $84.00)
Gosh, another winner. I already own Angel and Angel Muse from this same scent house, so this was not surprising. Mugler makes a super sexy perfume. Alien is going on my favorites list too, with its woody and floral notes. It is feminine but also very edgy, and just a little badass. It layers well with the Alien Man sample, which made for a really complex and unforgettable scent that lasted on my skin all day and into the next morning.
Verdict: This month's Macy’s Beauty Box was really exciting. I loved the Galactic Muse theme and thought that the products fit it really well, especially the perfumes and the glittery liquid eyeshadow. As a skincare junkie I always appreciate luxury samples, and the essence this month was a great size for a sample The peeling gel is really gun, and of course, I enjoy eye masks. The setting powder is just a great thing to have on hand, and its travel size makes it an easy choice for your next weekend getaway. This box has an estimated value of $78.99 (not counting the makeup bag.) That is a great value for a $15 subscription, though admittedly the eyeshadow and the essence pull the majority of the weight.
