Our March 2019 Review
Note: food prices vary by location and the prices in this review are specific to my location in central Texas. Also, some flavors are limited edition and the only place I can find them was on Amazon for a lot higher. But I have seen some of these treats in local stores, just not online.
As soon as I opened the box, it revealed another recipe card for a hummus dip to use with one of the snacks I received this month. I am not a fan of hummus dip, so I will not be making this anytime soon, but it is good to hold on to all recipe cards for any upcoming events, like a party or a baby shower.
Late July SeaSalt Multi Grain Tortilla Chips – Retail Value $2.99
220 Calories │ 11 g Fat│ 30g Carbs │ 3g Protein (per 15 chips) – Expired February 2, 2019
My favorite snack in the whole world is chips and salsa and tortilla chips are the absolute best with salsa. I was excited to see these; the packaging was appealing and they just seemed to be good. I was not disappointed! These chips are super crispy and are pretty yummy. I actually left these out while I continued to snap images of the rest of the box. I will probably definitely grab these again if I see them.
Athenos Baked Pita Chips: Roasted Garlic & Herb, 9 oz – Retail Value $2.50
120 Calories │ 4 g Fat│ 19g Carbs │ 3g Protein (per 11 chips) – Expires March 11, 2019
I love pita chips. I love how crispy they are and how filling a handful can be. I was curiously excited to try these. The garlic is definitely there and is pretty powerful. I cannot eat these on their own and if I did, I am sure I could keep a pack of vampires miles away. I really feel they would pair with spaghetti instead of garlic bread and am eager to try it out in the next few days. This is the snack the hummus recipe card was recommended pairing with.
Al Chipino BBQ Tikka Masala Chip, 5.5 oz – Buy a 12-count of 1.75 bags for $19.99
130 Calories │ 6 g Fat│ 18g Carbs │ 2g Protein (per 15 chips) – Expired February 20, 2019
These are cholesterol free, non-GMO, gluten and vegan-friendly. The bag and name had me excited to try them (I am a foodie and food excites me all too much). When I opened them, I wasn’t presented with a strong smell and when I bit into them there was not much of a flavor. I tried just licking the top and bottom of the chip to taste the flavor and it just wasn’t really there. Instead, it like sat on top of the chip and was more of a texture than a flavor. I really expected a punch of flavor with this chip and was left disappointed.
Al Chipino Peri Peri Chip, 5.5 oz – Buy a 12-Pack of 1.75oz for $19.99
130 Calories │ 6 g Fat│ 18g Carbs │ 2g Protein (per 15 chips) – Expired February 20, 2019
Like the snack before, these are cholesterol and gluten-free, non-GMO and vegan-friendly and like its predecessor, lacked a punch of flavor. I could not help but wonder if the expiration date had something to do with it, but am like 80% sure it doesn’t make a whole ton of difference, but the thought did cross my mind. I just hated how the flavor sat on top, tasteless. I really don’t see myself purchasing these in the future.
Snyder’s Pretzel Pieces: Hot Buffalo Wings, 7 oz – Retail Value $2.68
140 Calories │ 8 g Fat│ 18g Carbs │ 0g Protein (per 1/3 cup) – Expires March 16, 2019
I like hot and spicy foods and snacks and didn’t think to mix them with pretzels, or pieces of pretzels. When I opened this bag, it smelled flavorful and savory. I took a small bite and instantly recognized a vinegar flavor. These ultimately reminded me of spicy, salty-ish vinegar. I didn’t really like it, but I know they will not go to waste with my son, all-lover of everything spicy.
Welch’s PB&J Strawberry Snacks, 4.25 oz – Buy a box of 8, .8 oz snacks for $1.63
130 Calories │ 5 g Fat│ 19g Carbs │ 2g Protein (per 30g) – Unknown Expiration Date
I love Welch’s fruit snacks. I personally think they are the best fruit snacks out there. But when I saw that these were PB&J I could not help but grimace and the bag, and it sort of stayed there while I photographed then tasted it. I got as far as one single bite. These are quite interesting but that is absolutely it. They do not taste like peanut butter and jelly, I mean maybe a little. I definitely prefer an old-fashioned sandwich. As far as the expiration date goes, I was not able to locate it on the package. I know some dates are coded, but the only thing I could locate was WC14E27032.
Annie’s Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites, 6.5 oz – Retail Value $3.19
150 Calories │ 8 g Fat│ 19g Carbs │ 2g Protein (per 6 cookies) – Expired February 4, 2019
I have kind of expected to receive something from Annie’s organic line in my monthly subscription (like Reese’s) and I was not disappointed. I like how I have received a different product so I can really try them out. These cookies were perfect bite-size portions. They were pretty good, not as chocolatey as I prefer, but definitely hit the sweet spot. The kids haven’t spotted these yet, but I am sure they will be a hit! And bonus! Box Top item!
Ice Breakers Mint Packages, four .75 oz bags – Buy a box of 8, 1.5 oz packs for $11.98
(about) 27 Calories │ 0g Fat│ <1g Carbs │ 0g Protein (per 1 mint) – Expired February 2019
I have never tried these before I worked at my current job. My boss always carried these with him and would eat them like crazy. They are pretty good and really refreshing. I like that they came in individual bags so I can leave one in the car, in my desk, and in my purse.
Annie’s Organic Crispy Snack Bars, six .78 oz bars – Buy a box of 5 for $3.49
80 Calories │ 1.5 g Fat│ 17g Carbs │ <1g Protein (per bar) – Expired February 3, 2019
I got these last month, just the same, individual bars vs a box. They are pretty good, a little less sweet than rice crispy bars but a favorite item with the kids. The bars we got last time went so quick and the kids are excited we got them again.
Mini Chocottone, 3.53 oz – Buy a 26.2 oz loaf for $10.00
370 Calories │ 17g Fat│ 46g Carbs │ 7g Protein – Expires July 31, 2019
I personally have never liked bread-in-a-box no matter what flavor, but the kids tried it and liked it okay. It is a small loaf and packs a ton of carbs and calories, so this was definitely a one-time snack.
Stella D’ora Cookies, 10 oz – Buy an assortment of cookies for $3.69
120 Calories │ 4g Fat│ 18g Carbs │ 2g Protein (per 3 cookies) – Expires April 27, 2019
These looked so yummy through its packaging, especially the ones with bright pink icing and multi-colored sprinkles, but when I took it out of the box, I discovered a tear in the packaging. I am the kind of person who will not eat something that comes open no matter where it is from. My husband, however, said I was silly and put them aside for himself at a later time. Depending on his take, I may go out and get a fresh package for myself.
Sathers Sour Neon Night Crawlers – Buy a pack of 12, 3.5 oz for $12.99
130 Calories │ 0g Fat│ 31g Carbs │ 2g Protein (per 11 pieces) – Expires July 11, 2019
Yes, finally!! A sour snack. I have really been hoping for one since I started my subscription and spotted this right away. They are very sour and really yummy and will last me for at least a few days. I hope to get more in future boxes.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, 15 individual .6 oz cups – Buy a 2-pound bag for $22.99
88 Calories │ 5.2g Fat│ 9.4g Carbs │ 1.7g Protein (per cup) – Expires April 2019
Ah, Snack With Me, how did I know I would be receiving some sort of Reese’s product? When I saw these, I could not help but smirk knowing they would come and wishing I loved them as much as I once did. I did end up popping one in the freezer to see if I can get my love for them back since they are always in here.
Verdict: This month’s Monthly Box of Food and Snacks is pretty consistent with the number of snacks they send which is usually about 13 different kinds. This month, I really appreciated the types of snacks they sent, I got sour, savory, sweet and salty. I did feel there was a lot of chip kind of snacks, which is okay, since my family is a lover of chips, just not these kinds of chips. Either way, I was pretty happy with this month’s box.
