The theme for the February box is “Be Bold.” The back of the first insert provides a detailed item list on the contents of this month's box.
A second insert card is included that includes positive affirmations and tips for moms on one side and "moms to follow" on the other. The "moms to follow" feature includes three real-life moms and their Instagram handles, as well as a few sentences about their public personas.
Warrior Mom: 7 Secrets to Bold, Brave Resilience by JJ Virgin – Retail Value $16.00 (found here for $9.48)
From Amazon:
Inside every mother is a fierce, resilient, intuitive woman who has the ability to tap into an indomitable mindset and create heroic outcomes—for her children, her family, her community and for herself—she is a Warrior Mom.
In Warrior Mom, (previously published as Miracle Mindset), celebrity health expert and four-time New York Times bestselling author, JJ Virgin reveals how one life-altering event taught her to trust her instincts, pay attention to the details that matter and defy the odds—and she shares how you can too.
In 2012, JJ Virgin was in a hospital room next to her sixteen-year-old son who was struck by a hit-and-run driver and left for dead. She was told by doctors that he wouldn't last through the night and to let him go. With every reason to give up, JJ chose instead to invest her energy into the hope that her son would not just survive, but thrive. In Warrior Mom, she shares the lessons that gave her the courage to overcome the worst moment of her life.
If JJ Virgin sounds familiar, it might be because you remember her NYT bestseller The Virgin Diet. The book begins with an account of the day that her teenage son was hit by a car and the impossible survival odds that she was given. As a fellow mother, I instantly empathized with how she must have been feeling and found myself quickly devouring this book to see not only the results but her reflection on that significant time in her life. I think that her story is not only moving, but her advice is level headed and sound.
Resilience Crystal Infused Aromatherapy Mist (30 mL) – Retail Value $12.12, Listed Value $12
This lovely mist is designed to be uplifting – containing lemon oil (an instant mood-booster), eucalyptus oil (which aids in concentration and focus), and crystal-infused with amethyst (contained inside each bottle) to help bring calm and balance to your nervous system. It is vegan, organic, and handmade by Etsy shop BellaLunaLuzShop.
I work from home and often defuse oils in my home office each afternoon when I need a pick me up. What I love about this mist is how instant it is! Just a single spray instantly made my workspace smell lovely - the combo of eucalyptus and lemon is so clean, fresh, and invigorating to me. I really liked the concept of this mist, as well as the execution and product. The amethyst in the bottle is fairly small, you can hear it jingle around against the glass when you move the bottle around – but it doesn't take up much volume and I am pleased with the amount of actual spray in this little bottle! What a fun discovery!
Seasons of Love Sugar Scrub (4 oz. Orange Creamsicle) – Retail Value $9.99, Listed Value $10
I love a good sugar scrub and this little jar didn’t disappoint! I’ve always been a big fan of creamsicle flavored and scented products, so I was pleased when I received this item in my box. This handmade scrub is made from sugar, apricot oil, avocado oil, shea butter, coconut oil, stearic acid, emulsifying wax, orange peel, and essential oils. It had a very nice texture in the shower where I used it and left my skin feeling soft and hydrated. What I will also note, it didn’t make a mess in my shower which is another big win in my book! How cute is the sticker inside of the label? I’m going to definitely have to favorite this Etsy seller as well!
Exclusive! Bathroom Art Print from Oxford Momma – Listed Value $8
This 4-inch x 6-inch print is pretty cute and would look adorable framed in a bathroom. I'm a big fan of happy little messages like this around. With its plain back, I also am inclined to keep it with my stationary and use it as a card to send a happy note to someone.
Pink Rose Quartz Stones from Brazil – Listed Value $4
These stones are said to symbolize compassion and love – something we can all use more of! I actually have a little crystal garden on my window sill, so these are a happy addition to my crystal stash and I do believe they omit goodness into my workspace.
The Verdict: I think that Oxford Momma does a fantastic job curating a lovely self-care box with this subscription, time after time. I love the fact that this box isn’t targeted at new moms, or experienced moms, or empty nesters – it is applicable for ALL. Another subtle reminder that we’re all in this life together, right?
Using a combination of retail and listed values, the box contents total $50.11 and the subscription box cost is $44.95, including free shipping. The book and scrub can be found online for less than the listed values and the exclusive items (stones and print) have what I might consider slightly inflated list values as well. On the Oxford Momma site, they do advertise that every box is valued at $75+ so I do feel like this month, the promised value was not delivered.
