All my life we have recycled. Mom had us wash tin foil and baggies to reuse (still do), keep incoming envelopes for the blank backs to staple together to make scratch pads, etc. It goes on and on. We burn only what we have to, compost into what we call “the worm bed”, carry plastic/glass/paper 30 miles to a recycling center.
I get sick and tired of doing it BUT I believe every little bit helps. We all do what we can.
Is it better to use (waste) so much water to wash a recyclable? Thoughts?

Hi Kathy,

We hear you – this set is pricey – but we can assure you – we paid for all of these products and it is a great value. These are really high quality products – the best of the best. We may be breaking up the sets so that we can sell some of these pieces at lower price points. We hope you check what we have out. Thanks!

As much as I love this limited edition box the only thing I really want is the Utensil set. If you want to sell yours let me know. =)

Most municipal trash in the US is incinerated rather than buried now, so the claim that the toothbrushes and deodorant tubes are compostable is moot.

My city requires composting. We actually have three different bins… garbage (which is super tiny), recycle & compost/yard waste (which are massive)… these separations are also very common in public establishments where I live. I always appreciate when an item is marked as compostable so I know how to properly discard of it.

Many people compost at home.

I live in a suburb of a major Midwestern city and am confident my trash (that is does not go to a recycling facility) goes into a landfill. I also just looked up the locations of incinerators and there isn’t even one in my entire state either. It is not moot.

It’s not moot, especially if you prefer not to have your trash incinerated, which is a pollutant. I just looked up where these commercial incinerators are located, and there isn’t even one in my state….so your claim that most trash is incinerated is incorrect. The EPA also regulates what trash is burned for energy, and it is limited to non-hazardous waste only. Which would not include plastic toothbrushes or deodorant tubes. I hang on to a lot of my paper waste products to burn in my fire pit.

I just tried to post (and maybe it will show up) but I don’t see it and I think is bc I linked to This American Life. I just listened to their episode on incinerators – while Europe has highly efficient incinerators that don’t pollute much but provide energy, there are very few in America. If you are interested Act 3 of 554, The Big Crapple is an interesting & frustrating listen.

I think this box sounds great except I don’t need two more period cups.

There’s a really interesting This American Life on this subject. The gist is incinerators done right are good and provide energy – and that it’s done all over Europe – but not in the US. No one wants it ‘in their backyard’ even though places like nyc drown in garbage. It’s a good listen – https://www.thisamericanlife.org/554/not-it/act-three-0

I think this box is great but I don’t need two mebstrual cups.
