Bluum March 2019 Review
This Bluum box was sent for my son, Parker, who is 2.5 years old. Let's see what we received this month:
First up, we have this plasticware set from RePlay. This is a brand I'm familiar with and we have several of their divided plates, but these items are all new to us! These are made in the USA from recycled plastic that is food-safe and free from BPA, BPS, PVC, lead, phthalates, surface coatings. I love that they are eco-friendly and I've found them to be super durable, which is what makes them so great for kids! They are also dishwasher safe. I am definitely being picky here, but I sort of wish they had sent us a matching set or even just sent us 3 different colors since it comes across as haphazardly thrown together.
Re-Play 10 oz. Drinking Cup in Red - Retail Value $3
This cup holds 10 oz and is light, but still sturdy enough that I don't worry too much about it tipping over easily. I think the size is good for little toddler hands, but will also be good as he grows, too.
Re-Play Toddler Utensil Pair in Red - Retail Value $1.50
The utensil set we received is in the same color red as our cup. The fork features rounded edges that are more gentle for toddler mouths, while the spoon has a nice large scoop.
Re-Play 7-inch Plate in Lime Green - Retail Value $3.50
Our plate came in this nice bright lime green color. One thing I love about these plates is that they are nice and deep which is perfect for meals like spaghetti and mac & cheese since the pasta seems to stay in the plate a bit better as they push it around with their forks. Perfect for young kids who are still learning to eat with utensils! They are almost like wide flat bowls and mean less mess for mom, which is great!
People Blocks Go Go Vehicles - Retail Value $19.99
This block set is made of magnetic shapes that stick together and are meant to grow with your child as they explore the different shapes they can make as they connect them. These blocks are really cool and my son loves them, but wow, they definitely feel a bit overpriced! I'm happy to have received them in a box though because while they love them, $20 feels like a bit much for six small blocks.
The inside of the box comes out and forms a nice little road for you to use with your vehicle. We received two wheel blocks, one block with a face, and three other shapes that help to form our vehicle. The magnetic faces stick together anywhere that you see the "people" logo. My kids really like these and have been having fun playing with them, but there is only one vehicle and I wasn't that impressed with how they stuck together. Not only are the magnets not that strong, but the shapes we received are a bit odd and don't seem to go together that well.
Begin Again Dunk & Dive Bath Toys - Retail Value $11.90
My son was most excited about this toy. He loves his "sea creatures" and this set is really cute and perfect for bathtime. They are made of soft natural rubber and came in their own little storage bag which I thought was nice. They are also dishwasher safe, which is awesome! These eco-friendly toys are BPA and phthalate-free, too.
These toys feature several openings and a large hole on the bottom so that water can escape in hopes of preventing mold. I am constantly switching out our bath toys because they love the squirters, but they mold so fast, so I am hoping that these really do last!
Verdict: This month our Bluum box felt a little light. Normally we receive at least four items, and if we count our Re-Play items as one (which seems fair considering their total retail value was $8), that means we really only received three items this month. While normally that isn't a big deal to me, the total retail value only comes to $39.89 which is not too much higher than the $34 (plus free shipping) cost of the box. Even this wouldn't bother me as much if I didn't find the six-piece block set to be overpriced. But considering they account for about half of the retail value we received this month, I'm feeling a bit disappointed in this box. I do really like the items we received and this value is not consistent with other boxes we've received, so hopefully, this is just a one-off for us!
To Wrap Up:
Can I still get this box if I sign up today? All orders are processed the first of every month and shipped out on the 9th. If you order today, you will start receiving a box for next month.
Value Breakdown: At $34 for this box, here is what you are paying approximately for each item (counting the Re-Play set as one):
- Re-Play Set: $6.82
- Blocks: $17.04
- Bath Toys: $10.14
