Gentleman Sinner by Jodi Ellen Malpas – Retail Value $15.99 (found here for $12.17)
I like to consider myself pretty open-minded, but this book was not my cup of tea. The main male character in this book showed up at the woman's work unannounced, demanded that she come to his home to take care of a sick person (she is a nurse), would not take no for an answer when asking the woman to dinner, and even flew from London to Las Vegas once he realized that the woman was on vacation there (all within the first hundred pages of this four hundred page book). Stalking isn't *cute* and I cannot support books trying to romanticize dangerous characteristics.
From Amazon:
Izzy White knows of the darkness in this world. After all, she escaped it long ago. Determined not to let her past beat her, Izzy has a secure, stable life with a job she loves in nursing. But one act of kindness will completely upend everything she's so carefully built-putting her right back in the crosshairs of danger she's been so desperate to avoid.
When Theo Kane shows up like a knight in shining arm
or, Izzy can't help thinking she's been saved from one threat and exposed to another. His imposing physique, the harsh lines of his face, and the wariness of everyone who comes close are just a few clues to Theo Kane's notorious reputation. The man is positively terrifying. But with Izzy, he's tender and a complete gentleman, and her fascination with the mysterious beast of a man becomes too powerful for her to walk away.
As Theo's demons come to light, running becomes even more impossible. And yet staying together could doom them both.
Pink Star Bath Bomb
This bath bomb is BRIGHT pink and made for some pretty bath art. My only complaint is that this left my hand stained for about a day after I crushed it (the best part of the bath bomb, in my humble opinion). Luckily, this didn’t stain my tub or the rest of my skin, and it was fun.
Revitalizing Face Mask, 0.65 oz
The ingredients list on this face mask seemed great--just bentonite clay, Fuller's Earth clay, rose kaolin clay, and goat milk powder. Mixing the mask with water would create a mask able to pull out all the gunk out of your pores, which is especially helpful in areas that are blackhead prone. I chose not to use this, however, once I found out that Fuller's Earth clay is best known for its ability to be applied as a “facial bleach.” Thanks, but no thanks.
Bubbles & Books Lavender Bubble Bath
This little jar is just enough bubbles for one bath, and it smells just like lavender! This was a great bubble bath before I went to bed.
Story of My Tea Goodnight Tea, 6 tea bags – Buy 3 oz of tea for $14.99
This tea is a blend of hibiscus, peppermint, chamomile, lavender, and licorice. It is a bit fruitier than what I usually reach for in a nighttime tea thanks to the hibiscus, but I am a fan of the blend of licorice and peppermint.
Beaches of Tunisia Lavender Classic Incense, 2 sticks – Buy 12 sticks for $2.99
Incense isn’t really my thing, but I enjoyed the natural scent of lavender these provided. Lighting one and having it burn while taking a relaxing bubble bath really helped to put my mind at ease, so I guess this did its job!
Verdict: This wasn’t my favorite box ever from Bubbles and Books--the way the book romanticized stalking really left me unsettled. This is the first time since I have been subscribing that the included book wasn’t a win for me, though, and I guess you cannot win them all. I couldn’t find a value for almost all of the items in the box, but overall I do think this box was worth the $30 cost ($27.99 a month plus $3 shipping).
