I like that this company is interested in what their customers would like to see included in their boxes, but I was less impressed after I saw that postage wasn’t included on the card. The card does note that comments can be sent to [email protected], but my grandma is 93, and has no interest in learning about computers!

I love the inclusion of this putty in this box! TheraPutty is a resistive hand exercise material used to strengthen fingers and hands. It is made in the USA, and you can purchase the putty in different resistance strengths. The green putty is of medium resistance and definitely works the muscles in your hands and fingers! My grandma thought this was way more fun than her grip exerciser!

Tricky Triangle Game - Retail Value $1.88

This cute triangular shaped game board includes instructions printed on the board itself and 14 colorful pegs. To play the game, you arrange the pegs so that one hole is empty, then you jump the pegs removing the jumped peg until you can no longer make moves. You tally your points by how many pegs are left. I appreciated that this game is straightforward and doesn’t take up a lot of space. While my grandma might not play this, it will be nice to have at her house to keep my kids busy while we visit!

This red and clear crystal glass nail file seems to be pretty standard- it works pretty well and is small enough to fit in my purse. I also appreciate that it comes with a protective sleeve. I’m not sure my grandma has a glass file, but I’m sure she would be interested in trying this!

I love this cuticle oil pen! You turn the top of the pen and brush the amount of oil you want in the desired area - this application is way less messy than the dropper method I have used in the past! The oil is a blend of natural oils with vitamin A, vitamin E, and tea tree oil. The spice ginger scent is soothing and it seems to have helped my cuticles in one use! I can definitely see grandma using this while she watches the Price is Right!

These moisturizing gloves feature sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, and vitamin E for a softening treat on your hands! I have the driest hands ever, and after 20 minutes of wearing these gloves, they felt and looked so much better! They also have tabs to prevent them from slipping off for easier use. What a treat- and something my grandma would have fun with!

Every year on my birthday, my grandma sends me a card with stickers all over the envelope. She has done this as long as I can remember, and even though I am now 30, I love it! These stickers are completely up my grandma's alley. My 4 and 6-year-old didn’t quite understand the wax seal stickers, but I thought it was a fun addition, and my grandma got a kick out of them!

Here we have 4 glitter gel pens. The included colors are pink, yellow, black, and green. There is no indication of the brand, but they write really smooth and color very well. My grandma’s first introduction to gel pens was at my house with an adult coloring book. She did mention she would like some of her own, making this a perfect inclusion!

Next up is this fun assortment of notecards and greeting cards. Included were 7 colorful notecards, 5 birthday cards, 1 thank you card, 1 wedding card, 1 graduation card, and 1 blank patterned card. It is sooo nice to have a stash of cards on hand, and these ones are really cute! Who couldn’t use these, especially a grandparent or an elderly person? My husband’s grandma has 38 grandkids- she would fly through these cards!!!

My grandma always has a stash of these cookies in her pantry, so I already know she loves them. They have a classic taste with just the right amount of sweetness. At 110 calories they are the perfect snack!

2 Michel et Augustin Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies - Buy a pack of 18 for $27.00

The last item in the box was 2 packages of these delicious hazelnut cookies. I am addicted to anything hazelnut, and this was no exception! These are salty shortbread cookies with the perfect amount of chocolate and hazelnut bits on top. They are so good I ate all 4 squares in one sitting….I did eye up the other package but was able to resist...barely!

Verdict: This was the first time I have received the Care Box Co. subscription and I thought they did a very nice job with the curation. As a subscription for aging loved ones, I like that they send useful items that won’t clutter a small living space, and will truly be enjoyed. My grandma thought this was a great idea and was very pleased receiving these items, and I felt good about sharing them with her. This is a great birthday or Christmas idea, especially since the trip to the mailbox is the highlight to my grandma's day!

While I wasn’t able to find prices for all items due to unknown brands, there were 33 items in the box. With the monthly subscription costing $39 including shipping, each item comes to about $1.18. While that may be high for some items, I think the curation and surprise should be factored in as well. It is also nice to know that with every box sold, this company sends care boxes to low income or orphaned seniors across the country.

I was SO excited when I saw things that my mother could use and would love, namely the squeezy putty and the greeting cards, as she used to send tons of cards to all her friends until the cost of the cards and postage went way up and then her friends died one by one.

She’s almost 91, and although she’s having home Physical Therapy to try to get her back walking with her cane instead of a walker, this box is not available for me to send her. The review is great, but we need more of an idea of what’s coming in time to buy it, Care Box Co.! 😉

I don’t see ANY spoilers for May’s box, either.
Is this a new sub box?

While I love what she could have gotten if someone had given out spoilers, I have no idea what will be in the May box at all.
When a parent or grandparent gets very aged and fragile physically and mentally ( in some ways), it’s horrible to live over 1200 miles away for career reasons and be established in the very faraway life, to have no siblings, cousins or other family, and hear from her in a weak voice that she ” hit the gas instead of the brakes” at the beauty shop last week and broke her nose and blackened both eyes.

This is an area which is a great need for sub boxes to send to relatives and special friends we love, to provide both comfort and care products which aren’t so utterly trendy or cutesey. I REALLY like the contents overall, and this is picky but I think their logo is WAY too computerized looking for people who likely do NOT use the Internet much, for example.

In my private community, my husband and I are the youngest couple for miles and many neighbors have passed away recently. The population is aging, the Baby Boomers are getting to retirement age ( the youngest baby boomer is 53 years old now by definition of the generations), and we need boxes like this, and we need great promotion of the boxes and the upcoming boxes and contents from the companies who are curating and selling them.

MSA is doing all of us a favor with this review. I just wish the company had made this box known when it was for sale.

My mother reads and watches TV and does as much of the house work as she can. She refuses a housekeeper, which I wanted to get her full time every day, her own ” Hazel”.. so I’m very limited in what I can do that will help her and not hurt her in any way.

Two things I think could be included in a Care Box are the microwavable one time use bath sheets, and the shower cap like things which contain the shampoo and water for easy and safe hair washing with another person helping her. Both products are very hard to find in my area and I know about them mostly from my professional history.

What would you put in a box of this type for your mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, great aunt?
( I wish we had a general place to discuss what would be so great in the niche type boxes).

Love to all daughters, moms, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers, as all our needs will change, and there are still enough joys in life to love the little luxuries, too. 😉

This box is amazing, especially for the elderly in physical therapy rehab centers. I was an Activity Dir and I love this. This could even be expanded for ADs to build their supplies and ideas. This type of box never came across my mind but this is brilliant!

I personally think the curation of this box is lovely.
The peg game is a popular table game at Cracker Barrel. It’s nice for continued mental skills (you have to plan a move or two ahead).
The putty is actually commonly used in physical therapy and does help with dexterity.
A sweet treat is nice to keep around for guests even if you do not indulge yourself.
Although I would love to see postage included with the cards, I thought there was a nice variety that seemed cheerful, seasonally appropriate (I love they included a graduation card) and included fun pens and stickers.
One of the things I most remember about my own grandma is how nicely she always cared for her nails. I really enjoyed the self care inclusion. And for those who are no longer able to file and paint their own nails, as a caregiver, it’s a sweet and relaxing way to help someone feel loved and appreciated.

Unfortunately I don’t have anyone in my life that this box would be appropriate for at this time, but I like the idea and enjoyed your review.

On a side note, perhaps I took things a personal, and I understood that at times my own humor is not always well received.
But implying that our older generation would eat the putty, drink the cuticle oil, all have dentures and do not have their senses, is far shorter and sad.
Unfortunately, many do lose a lot of skills and decline in mental and physical health. But broad generalized statements can come across as unkind.

Sorry if I come across preachy…
Everyone is absolutely entitled to their own opinions. But I personally believe we should be able to express ourselves with compassion and kindness.

I was actually going to comment on that myself but decided it was likely just meant in good fun with no ill-will intended (i.e. sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying!).

I’m sure everyone’s experience is different, but I care for mom who has moderate Alzheimer’s and I had a very close relative in memory care. From what I’ve seen, even those with more advanced dementia usually hold onto the basics (i.e. understanding the difference between edible and inedible items); they just can’t seem to pull all the pieces together anymore. But obviously everyone is different, and if someone is buying this for their loved one, they will know best about their capabilities.

Personally, I wouldn’t hesitate to get this for my mom. She would probably be confused about the putty but would like the rest. Peanut butter doesn’t cause an issue with her dentures either but something hard like peanut brittle would. 🙂

Unfortunately, my grandma that I cared for had Diabetes on top of dementia and Alzheimer’s, and she would eat fire starters (because it looked like it was in snack packaging) and anything inedible and edible she could get her hands on. But I still found some humor in the comment below. Mainly because I was thinking my grandma would have done those things with those items when I was reading the review and then I read the comments! She has been gone now for a few years, so I can see some humor in it now I suppose. Because it was heartbreaking when it was happening, I honestly don’t know how I would taken that comment when I was dealing with it day in, day out. Caregiving is a thankless job usually, and one that has no on/off hours.
I definitely feel like this is a great idea for a box, but I do feel like it is going to have items that are only for those that still have their “marbles”. It would be next to impossible to make a box and exclude all the things that I saw her attempt to injest!

Not true of everyone. My grandfather had severe Alzheimers for the last ten years of his life and he would have eaten anything that was in eye range. We literally couldn’t have anything in his reach. Very similar to child proofing when you have a toddler. Grandpa would have eaten mud and rocks if it was in front of him. Very sad.

My grandmas favorite part of the day is going to the mail box – so even though we only live 2 doors down, we put letters in her mailbox so she has fun things to open instead of all junk mail!

I LOVE this idea, but a suggestion for the creators (if they are reading here). Most of the seniors I know — even those in their 80s — would bristle at the suggestion they are elderly or aging. Maybe a change of wording would be better. For instance, “Our passion is helping people stay connected with their senior family members and friends.” And then maybe just remove the word “aging” further down on the insert. Just a suggestion. Otherwise, I think it’s fantastic. I think things like hand creams, simple games, card and sweets would all be appreciated by a wide variety of people.

No one I know is ashamed of being old. They just don’t think of themselves as elderly, which seems to have a connotation for many as being fragile or feeble.

As a person with elderly parents I really loved this, although they should include forever stamps for the cards and non chocolate/nut goodies as well due to allergies. My mother in law would like a little (maybe not so little) bottle of whiskey added in too – she’s 102! and deserves it!

It’s all fun and games until someone eats the putty. Or drinks the cuticle oil. Or sits on the nail file (see Hugh Grant and the embroidery in “Sense and Sensibility”). I can’t even imagine how peanut butter works with dentures.
