Fair Trade Friday is an organization that helps to empower women and battle poverty through dignified, sustainable industry (craftsmanship). They have three subscriptions to choose from that send fairly traded items from around the world: The Original Box, Bracelet of the Month, and Earring of the Month. I have subscribed to the Earring of the Month box for years now, and I am really excited to be reviewing the Original Box now!

This booklet is included every month, and it has nice details about the items and the artisans who created them. This month's theme is "Slow Fashion."

HandUp Global Goods, Macrame Earrings - Retail Value $16, Listed Value $20

While I've gone on the record stating that I am tired of the threaded tassels jewelry trend, these are different. These are macrame, and I absolutely love macrame! This is every boho girl's dream! I also like that they are white and contrast with my hair. So pretty! They were made by young men at HandUp Global Goods, which is an awesome charity organization in Haiti. It works with teens in orphanages who are aging out of the program so that they have skills and sustainable employment once they are on their own. They have been working on this order for Fair Trade Friday for a year! That's amazing!

Village Artisan, Chay Way Scarf - Estimated Value $29.95 (based on a similar item found here), Listed Value $28

I have never heard of a Chay Way before! It's a scarf-like item that you can wear nine different ways! I am showing it here as a scarf and as a shrug. It is so pretty! It's really sheer and delicate. There are buttons down either side so it can be worn as a shrug. I love it! I am also happy that it seems to fit a variety of sizes. This was made by Village Artisan, an organization in North India that provides fair trade, sustainable training and employment to the impoverished of the area.

The Verdict: I love my subscription to Fair Trade Friday Original Box! Both items this month are beautiful, and I am sure I will get lots of use out of them. I also like all of the information they provide to show how your subscription directly impacts the lives of others. It makes the subscription seem that much more special.

To Wrap Up:

If I subscribe today, can I still receive this box? No. In order to receive the box of the month, you must subscribe before the 24th of the previous month.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $32.99 + free shipping. It included two items, so the average cost per item is $16.50. The total estimated retail for all items is $45.95, which means the savings on this box is nearly 33%!

Omg! I’m kind of loving macrame right now too, so I would actually like those earrings but can we talk about that scarf? They aren’t selling it on their mercy house site and oddly enough, Amazon has no idea what they are (or I typed it wrong 16-ish times). Thank goodness you posted the site! Looks beautiful on you!! Off to buy one for myself!!

Does this company ever release spoilers for any of their boxes? If not I wish they’d consider doing so. Fair trade apparel and accessories are really hit or miss for me, but there have been a handful of boxes from this company I would have loved to have. But unfortunately, by the time it’s reviewed the box is no longer available. Anyway, lovely scarf!

If you watch Instagram, FTF will share the box as soon as subscribers receive it…usually around the 10th-12th of each month, and they always have extra boxes available for purchase. 😊 (I’ve subbed to this box for years and agree with you…it’s hit and miss sometimes but also gives me a great stack of gifts for friends.) 😊

Kim

that scarf is gorgeous. I wish you would have posted a larger photo of the ways to wear it.
it made me google Chay scarf and I found a YouTube video that showed 15 ways.

Attached it to my name as I don’t believe we can post links here.
