GeekGear Wizardry March 2019 Review
Each box comes with this official looking Hogwarts letter with a wax seal sticker that summarizes all the items in our box. This month we received 8 items. One was not listed on the inside of the leaflet, but the omission was mentioned on the outside.
This month’s box also included two inserts presenting additional boxes Geek Gear offers: a Limited Edition House Elves box, which, at the time of this review, only has 100 left! The other is for an Acceptance Letter Box which seems so magical!
Exclusive Magical Sweets T-Shirt, Kids Large
I look forward to the t-shirts in my boxes every month, but I was a bit disappointed in this one. The shirt is white, but it isn’t pure white. The design is of a chocolate frog atop two feathers, but the yellow and blue really take away from the design. It's definitely not my favorite shirt I've received, so I am hoping next month will make up for it.
Exclusive Divination Tea
The teas are another item I look forward to each month. This month’s tea is Divination; a mix of black tea, lavender with cornflower petals and bergamot oil. You can see specs of the beautiful cornflower petals in the mix, and the blue is just so pretty!
House Tea Strainer
Ah, yes!!! A tea strainer is such a coveted item in this box since we receive so many teas! I love this one. The beads are Gryffindor’s colors, and it has a silver owl on the end. I love it, love it, and I am excited to have received it in this box.
Potted Plant Figure
Oh. My. Goooodness! I am a BIG Harry Potter fan, so I feel my reaction to this is totally normal. When I opened this little figure I was super excited (and still am!). He sits in a plant holder and has two little ears with plants “growing” out. I was able to pull him out just like Professor Sprout has taught. We know mandrakes have fatal cries so I was glad that this one is petrified. This mandrake is so ugly it's cute, plus it is super detailed.
Here I am with my mandrake. As soon as I opened it up I took a selfie and sent it to my sister and my husband. You cannot really see my face, but it is eternally etched with pure joy.
Chocolate Frogs
How exciting! Last month we received chocolate frog tea that I was not entirely stoked about (although it smelled amazing!) I mentioned how I would prefer actual chocolate frogs instead and voila! Wish granted – chocolate frogs! I received 4 milk chocolate frogs. These were delicious and perfectly sweet.
Professor’s Sherbet Lemon
Oh, another magical treat! These were so good! When I opened the box up there were specs of candy on the inside of the box and it smelled so good. When I popped one into my mouth, the lemon taste was just right. After a couple of minutes, it got a little sour and that was welcoming; I like sour candies. It was not overwhelming and was the right amount of sweet and sour. There were 10 in this box and they will not last long.
Chocolate Frog Art
This was the piece that was missing from the leaflet. It is a pretty big piece and the colors, especially the rich purple, and art is just so pretty. Looking at this and the shirt, I wish the shirt looked more like this design. Such a great piece!
Gryffindor Artwork
Last and certainly not least is this Gryffindor artwork. It's very official-looking and describes what Gryffindor stands for: Courage, Determination, and Bravery. In case anyone is wondering, we are doing some work to our home and will have a nice sized reading nook that I will be hanging all my HP artwork in.
When I was all done with unboxing this fantastic box, this was on the very bottom. I scratched it and lost. I cannot help but wonder if I have missed these in previous boxes? I hope I eventually get a win!!
Verdict: This is, by far, one of my favorite subscription boxes as it really feeds into my geeky Harry Potter side. This month featured a lot of chocolate frogs in the t-shirt, the candy and the artwork we received. This month’s theme was mandrake and I am over-the-moon happy about the mandrake I received, but I wish there was more around the theme and more mandrakes, either in the art print or the shirt even. I strongly feel that these items are for true, hardcore HP fans, otherwise they will be pointless knick-knacks that will collect dust and be a waste of money. But, for those like myself, these items are priceless and hold sentimental value making them priceless. That being said, this box costs $40.08 ($32.33 plus $7.75 shipping at the current exchange rates), and, considering I received 8 magical items, I find that a pretty good deal.
