GlobeIn April 2019 "SLURP" Review
Each box from GlobeIn contains a booklet that talks more about the theme for the box and the items inside. This little booklet is almost as valuable to me as the items inside the box because it gives background on each piece and often gives the names and shows photographs of the artisans who made them! I absolutely love knowing more about each item and the hands that crafted it.
Just a heads up, since there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items, I'm going off the prices given in this Globein spoilers post for items I couldn't find online.
Sana Noodle Bowl, Tunisia - Listed Value $40.00
WOW. This bowl is huge! You could fit a ton of ramen in here. It also has a handy hole and slot to hold your fave chopsticks. I love the pink, gray, and blue color scheme and the intricate pattern is really lovely. I feel like this bowl might get more usage holding copious amounts of cereal in my home, but that little slot should hold my spoon and prevent it from falling into the milk. Calamity avoided!
Sana Sauce Dish, Tunisia - Listed Value $12.00
This pretty little sauce dish matches the ramen bowl perfectly! It is perfect for soy sauce or your other favorite condiments. I could also easily see this being used in my home to collect special rings and smaller earrings. I love keeping little dishes like this near the all of the sinks in my home to keep my smaller accessories from falling to their deaths down the drain!
Hand-carved Elephant Chopsticks, Kenya - Listed Value $15.00
Of course, they had to send an amazing pair of chopsticks along with our awesome new giant ramen bowl. These are really special because they are hand carved by artisans in Kenya and feature beautiful elephant heads on the ends. They are carved out of smooth Jacaranda wood and are so much more special than traditional mass made chopsticks for devouring your favorite sushi, noodles, and other snacks.
Fair Trade Forbidden Rice Ramen, China - Retail Value $2.29
I have actually tried this ramen before and it is very tasty, but the miso broth included is quite mild. The noodles themselves feel much denser than other ramen packs I have tried and the flavor is nuttier. I recommend adding in extra spices and maybe some veggies and meat. Also, an egg or two because I personally love eggs in my ramen! This black rice ramen used to be served only to Chinese emperors to promote health and vitality, so you are in good company with this in your bowl.
Amapola Handwoven Blue Basket, Mexico - Retail Value $15.00
Though I could not find the exact pattern for sale on the GlobeIn shop site, I did find similar baskets here. I LOVE baskets and I have way too many of them in my home. I like to stash everything in them: craft supplies, jewelry, produce, anything! I love the handwoven quality of this one and the cute matching top. It's 6x5 inch size is also great for setting a potted plant into to give it a little more pizzazz than a normal plastic pot.
The Verdict: GlobeIn had some really fun items this month. The ramen bowl is probably the main showstopper because it is beautifully painted and so big! I thought including a sauce dish, chopsticks, and even ramen was really thoughtful and added to the overall curation and theme. Of course, your girl loves a basket, so I am always thrilled when I get one in a Globein box. I still think there should be some sort of magical handmade basket subscription, but maybe I would be the only subscriber... I always enjoy reading about the makers of all of the items included in each box, and reading more about them in the added booklet really adds value to this subscription for me. Though I couldn't find direct retail values to most of the products included this month, according to the listed retail values this box has a value of around $82 without the ramen. It isn't an earth-shattering value leap over the $50 cost (box+shipping) of the box, but I think it was absolutely worth it, especially if you love handmade items from around the world and ramen!
