Oui Please Homme Volume 1.3 "The Weekender" Review
Like Oui Please, Oui Please Homme comes in a beautiful gift box with magnetic closures that you can reuse.
It has a nice clean black tissue paper hiding your goodies...
And a branded sticker to seal it.
While this is intended for men, I rather liked everything I saw in the spoilers so I volunteered to review the box with my friend Justin weighing in from his perspective. He's a chef and likes some of the finer things in life, so this subscription is right up his alley.
Whisky Stones, set of 9
Justin loves whisk(e)y, so he was pretty excited about this set of nine stones made to keep your drink cold without watering it down and ruining the experience and flavor. They come in a small velvety pouch for safekeeping when not in use. Each one is 3/4 inch cubed so you can fit quite a few in a shallow glass of your favorite aged bourbon or whiskey to keep things chilled.
Ateliers Auguste Garnier Leather Earphones Holder in Brown - Retail Value $21.00
As simple as this item is, I have to say that it's super handy and something I never would have thought I needed (but knew I wanted to keep it for myself). The dark brown leather has the brand stamped into it and a single silver snap (that is also branded) to keep your earbuds snuggled together. Before this little tool, I had my earbuds wrapped up and stuffed into a coin purse along with a nail file and some crystals, and anytime I'd need to pull them out it was a dang mess. Now they are a solid little chunk without tangles.
Faguo Navy Duffle Bag - Retail Value $56.42 (50€)
While I have had plenty of overnight bags in my day, I know plenty of men who have nothing of the sort. I don't know why it shocks me but it does. I dated someone years ago that would show up at my house with his belongings in a plastic grocery bag (I quickly remedied that). What I'm trying to say is that every dude should have a nice duffle like this at the very least so you can do a weekend or an overnight without looking clueless. The one I received has a durable navy blue nylon body with reinforced tan brown cotton handles and detachable (and adjustable) shoulder strap to keep your hands free. The front has a small leather branded patch and there's a cool little button on the left handle as an accent. There aren't any pockets inside but there is plenty of space for clothes and a dop kit to stay organized. Justin is really into this bag and thinks it's great quality. He can't wait to use it on a weekend trip.
Faguo Cotton Socks, 5 ct - Retail Value $44.99 (40€)
Faguo also has socks in addition to bags. These honestly are so nice and are 73% cotton, 25% polyester, 2% elastane. They're not as thick as a sport sock but not as thin as a dress sock so they can be worn year-round with casual outfits. Each sock has the button logo embroidered on the side in a different contrasting color and is calf-length. Justin is wearing his new socks as we speak and reported back that they are "super soft but lack support around the legs and ankles". Who knew that some men look for extra support in socks?
Sauver Le Monde Des Hommes 4-piece Shave Kit
I can't seem to steer clear of razors these days, so it makes perfect sense that this shaving set made its way to me. The four-piece set includes a faux woodgrain handled shaving cream brush, small stainless bowl, faux wood handled razor, and a navy blue cotton zipper pouch to keep everything together when traveling or not in use. The brush has super soft bristles that will help apply shaving cream without getting your hands messy while giving an old-timey yet luxurious feel and that small stainless bowl will assist with keeping it contained. The cartridge that comes with the razor is detachable and houses three blades and a small aloe strip at the top. I'm not sure which cartridges are compatible with this one for future reorders and since there isn't any branding on this set, it may take some trial and error to track some down, unfortunately. This set doesn't do it for me personally, but it'd make a great gift for a guy who likes to keep a close shave. Justin was a little disappointed that the woodgrain was actually plastic instead of real wood, but thought a shaving kit was a great idea to include in the box.
Formaticum Cheese Storage Paper - Retail Value $9.00
Justin and I used to work at the cheese counter together at Whole Foods years ago, so this is a great item for us to review! It's apparently sold there as well, so he can attest to its quality. The box is about the size of plastic wrap or tinfoil and it comes with 15 sheets of well-designed paper that is sort of waxy on one side. Each sheet is 11″ x 14″ so there is plenty of surface space to rewrap your recently purchased Humboldt Fog or Piave. There are also 15 labels to seal the package tightly and mark the type of cheese and date (something I ALWAYS need to do in my fridge). From their description: "the two-ply paper allows the cheese to breathe while maintaining optimal humidity preventing the cheese from drying out" which means this going to keep your fancy cheese fresher and longer than just plastic wrap or a baggie.
L’Atelier du Vine Wine Bottle Opener Set - Retail Value $51.00
I'm not a wine drinker myself, but many of my friends are. I had taken some extra bottles from the office to bring to a Game of Thrones watching party last week and thought we could give this set a whirl there. Justin used the opener and could tell right away that it was a great quality due to the weight and durability of it. While we didn't get to test out the aerating pourers, they are an intriguing new product to me and I'm sure a more seasoned wine aficionado would delight in the five that come with the set. The third item also went unused that night since it's a vacuum pump stopper and my friends didn't leave any leftovers. A super useful item indeed though for those who like to crack open a bottle but may not finish it.
Archiman Alpha-Hydroxy-Acid Facial Cleanser - Retail Value $36.11 (32€)
This French cleanser wasn't originally going to be part of the box but was added to replace a skincare item that arrived too late. I'm so glad this one made the cut because it is another item I kept for myself and is now my favorite new cleanser! While it's marketed to men, I am absolutely in love with the design on the bottle as well as the scent (which reminds me a lot of Ursa Major's cleanser which I also love). It's sort of a thin clear gel that very slightly lathers as you massage it into your wet face. Once rinsed off, my skin feels ultra clean and fresh. I am very tempted to try some of their other products if I can find them somewhere domestically!
The Verdict: For my first Oui Please Homme I have to say I was very pleased with this curation of products and my friend Justin was overjoyed to test the items out and report back to me. He favored the duffle bag, whiskey stones, and wine set while I was way into the cleanser and earbuds holder. As a woman, I really liked a lot of the male-targeted items but would also totally gift this to a man in my life who needs to upgrade some items in his life. This box costs $150 including free shipping and delivered seven items that are high-quality French brands to my door. I was unable to find a value for the whiskey stones, but the remaining six items have a total value of $218.52.
