Zaa Box March 2019 - Bath Salts Zaa Box March 2019 - Bath Salts Out Of The Package

Asili + Co, Sweet Pea Bath Salts - 1 oz – Retail Value $4.00

This sweet aroma from the bath salts consists of pink sea salts, vitamin E oil, Epsom salt, and essential oils. The fragrance from the bath salts was lovely and reminded me of being in a field of flowers. I opted for a foot soak as opposed to a bath. The foot soak was relaxing and left my feet soft and rejuvenated. Also, enclosed on the back of the info card is a code for 15% off that expires on 4/25/19.

Zaa Box March 2019 - Lemongrass Lavender Body Lotion

Tasha Hussey Body, Lemongrass Lavender Lotion – 4oz – Retail Value $10.00

Tasha Hussey’s body collection started in 2013 of “natural and animal free ingredients mostly made up of vegetable glycerin, coconut oil, olive oil, oatmeal, shea butter and essential oils mixed with other wonderful moisturizing and exfoliating ingredients”. I received her Lemongrass Lavender Lotion made from jojoba oil, coconut oil, aloe vera, silk amino acids, sunflower oil, vitamin E, avocado oil, fragrant oils, and essential oils. The lotion is intended for men or women and states it’s super emollient. The lotion was thick and creamy with a faint lemon scent that paired well with the lemongrass lavender carrot extract shea butter soap that I received this month. Even though the lotion states it's emollient, after applying the lotion to my body the product wasn’t absorbent and the lotion just sat on my skin. It felt as if I had this heavy cream that was weighing on my skin as opposed to being absorbed into my skin. This may differ and yield opposing results for subscribers. Zaa Box March 2019 - Candle

Pontie Wax, Lemon Lavender Sugar Soy Wax Candle – 4oz –Estimated Value $9.00 for 4 oz (buy an 8.5 oz jar for $18.00)

“Lemon Lavender Sugar is a refreshing blend of lemon, lavender and pink sugar. With the sweetness of baking grade sugar, the zest of lemon and the refreshing scent of lavender oil, this candle will leave a refreshing aroma in the air.” This travel size, 4 oz candle has a 24 hour burn time and has a lemon scent that faintly engulfed my desk area. This brand was in the December box and the holiday scent was festive.

From Pontie Wax:

Pontie Wax is a line of scented hand-poured soy wax candles founded in 2015.  Made from 100% plant-based soy wax, each candle features non-toxic fragrance and essential oils.  There are no parabens, plastics or additives included to Pontie Wax candles, making each burn pleasant and safe. Each candle is hand-poured with love in Brooklyn, New York, and crafted in small batches to ensure quality.

Zaa Box March 2019 - Soap In The Package

Zaa Box March 2019 - Chocolate

Tasha Hussey, Lemongrass Lavender Carrot Extract Shea Butter Soap - 6.5 oz – Retail Value $9.00

This bar of body soap felt refreshing on my skin as I showered. The soap wasn’t as sudsy and lathering as other bars of soap I used, though it did yield some suds as I lathered my body. The soap intends to help fight the aging process and provide elasticity on my skin. The ingredients consist of saponified coconut, shea, and safflower oil, RSPO palm oil, purified water, essential oils, and carrot extract. The soap paired well with the body lotion I received this month.

Zaa Box March 2019 - Soap Outside Of The Package

Phillip Ashley Chocolates, 2 pieces - Estimated Value $8.00 (buy a 12-piece box for $48)

I received a small box with two chocolates, Woodford Reserve Double Oak Bourbon, and Champagne Lemon curd in the shape of a heart and leaf. The green heart-shaped chocolate with a creamy center had a lemony flavor and was yummy. The leaf-shaped chocolate with a creamy center had an intense dark chocolate aftertaste which lingered on my palette. I didn’t detect any other flavors since the dark chocolate was overpowering; it was not my favorite.

The chocolate is handcrafted in small batches using the finest ingredients with fair trade chocolate. I didn’t find this particular set of chocolate on their website, so the value is an estimate. Also, chocolates from this manufacturer are a monthly staple in this subscription box, which is a nice treat.

The Verdict: As usual, the majority of this month’s box products were geared for the body with the exception of the candle and chocolates. With this being a spa-like box, I’m still waiting for full-size products, as well as bath and body tools/accessories such as an exfoliating body mitt, foot mask, or a body exfoliating brush. I feel encouraged and pampered (as well as blushing!) from the handwritten note from Mr. Strong that’s included monthly.

This month’s box was okay, the two items that were a hit for me where the lemon lavender sugar soy candle and the lemongrass lavender carrot extract shea butter soap. I appreciate how this box keeps to its theme by using corresponding scents and products that pair well together. Overall, another decent box with future potential to continue to bring me more black-owned brands and to seek out and curate upcoming, must-have products for women of color. This month’s estimated $40.00 value is lower than previous boxes.
