This month's Boxycharm theme is called “Make Waves” and its perfect for summer. Make waves is also a term to try something new and different so with that said, let's see what's new in this months box.
Our first product is from GlamGlow which just happens to be one of the most popular brands in skincare right now. This is their Gentlebubble Daily Conditioning Cleanser. If you are searching for a new cleanser to use, then this rainbow tie-dye packaging will be sure to catch your eye.
It's made to gently and effectively remove face makeup and other daily impurities. It has oat amino acids that help condition your skin, while the bubbles do a deep cleaning and dissolve away any dirt or makeup. It's made with a special formula that's safe to use on a daily basis and has no harsh dyes or chemicals. This came just in time because I ran out of my daily cleanser, so I hope this one works just as well or even better.
I simply followed the directions on the product and applied this to my wet face using circular motions. It's fun to use and kinda looks like melting pearls on your face. I love how the scent isn't too overwhelming. It sort of reminds me of a light vanilla smell that is both light and fresh.
Here is my face after using the GlamGlow cleanser and I'm really loving how it cleanses my skin without that gross greasy feeling you sometimes get from other products. There was zero residue on my towel after patting my face dry which means it's a pretty good cleanser that removed just about everything. Another plus is that it didn't leave my face feeling dry afterward, it felt super clean and well conditioned. If you have sensitive skin and need a cleanser that isn't too harsh then I certainly recommend this product.
Our next product is the Ciate London Eye Lustre Creme Eyeshadow in the color Cupid. I am familiar with this brand but don't own many of their products so I'm dying to try this out. A lot of makeup brands are coming out with these liquid eyeshadows and I have seen so many beautiful eye looks created using them. I can't wait to see how this is going to look. These creme eyeshadows from Ciate London are metallic, glittering liquid shadows that are full of iridescent color. It comes in two shades: Cupid and Ice. They are vegan and paraben-free which is great. They can be worn alone, or swiped on as a sparkling eyeshadow topper. I tried using it on its own but did not like the outcome so I decided to use it as a topper instead.
Here is a swatch so you can see how it looks alone.
Cupid is described as a sparkling rose gold color and I absolutely love anything in rose gold.
Our next product is from Alamar Cosmetics which Boxycharm has sent us products from this brand before. So far I've enjoyed the quality of this brand and I hope to say the same for this product. It's their Colorete Blush Trio in the color Dark Rich. There are three different palettes to compliment different skin tones. I was hoping for Dark Rich because I thought it would compliment my skin tone better. The idea behind these blush trios is meant to give off the sunkissed radiant glow that a day at the beach would give you. The formula is supposed to have good pigment that glides smoothly on your cheekbones, giving you that inner glow look.
Here are the colors swatches.
I'm not a big fan of blush but when I do wear it, I look for something more subtle and natural. I'm hoping this blush trio will do just that, so I can't wait to test it out and share my thoughts. I will be using this palette for blush later, but first I decided to use two of the colors to create a simple eyeshadow look. You can use regular eyeshadow, but I wanted to test out the pigment and use the palette in two different ways. I took a medium fluffy blush and placed the color Candela over my lid.
Then I took a smaller brush and placed Oasis on the outer corners of my eyes. I loved how pigmented and smooth these blushes go on with ease, and also how easy they blend together.
To complete my eye look, I'm going back to the Creme Eyeshadow. I took the wand and wiped off the excess. Then I added it right in the middle of my lid and then across my lids. I found that using the wand made for a sloppy application, so I decided to put the product on my finger and apply it that way. Be careful because it's pretty easy to make a mess with these.
I patted the glitter until I got the desired sheer color I wanted. If you want more of a pearl finish then use less patting to keep the glitters in place.
Here is how my eye look came out, after adding some black eyeliner to my water line and smudged it out.
Our next product is from PUR Cosmetics. This time they sent us a very pretty eyelash curler that also happens to be iridescent, so I'm guessing it's a part of their theme this month. If you're new to doing makeup and aren't sure how to use your eyelash curler, don't worry its easy to do.
First, begin with clean dry lashes then open the eyelash curler. While keeping your eyes open, place your upper lashes between the two sides. I know they can look scary at first but I promise if you do it right, it will not hurt. Next, starting with the inner corner of your eye, position the curler as close as possible to your eyelid without pinching your skin. Finally, once your lashes are placed inside, slowly and gently clamp your curlers together. Hold it for about 10 to 12 seconds and repeat the steps moving outward to curl your entire lash line. Of course, opening your mouth is not required, I just think it helps for some odd reason.
Here is how my eyelashes looked after curling them and adding a few layers of mascara. I personally think that curlers make a big difference in how your lashes look. I never use to use eyelash curlers until I saw the difference they can make. So now I always use them and now I have an extra pair! I think they help your lashes look better without adding tons of mascara. However, what I like about the PUR eyelash curlers is how they made my short and stubby lashes stand straight up. They seem like a great fit for all eye shapes so I'm really impressed. My only complaint is how snug my fingers fit into the holder, and I can see this being an issue if you happen to have larger hands. Other than that they seem to be a very nice pair of eyelash curlers.
Now that I have completed my eye look, filled in my brows, added primer and foundation, its time to revisit our Blush Trio from Alamar Cosmetics. I took a medium blush brush and added the shades Oasis and Candela together and applied it to my cheekbones.
Here is how it looks added to my cheekbones. The formula was very smooth and the micro shimmers gave off a nice glow effect. If I forgot to mention it, these blush trios are completely vegan, talc free, and cruelty-free, which is always a plus in my book. I never wear blush due to the ashy look it gives me, but I must admit that this did not look as bad as I thought it would. I can actually see myself wearing this again, which is a huge deal for me. I like how natural it looks and gives me that sunkissed glow from within, and it's nice to know they work just as good as an eyeshadow as they do for blush!
Our final product is from Luna By Luna, a brand I have never heard of before. It's their Lip Gloss in the color Venus. I was excited to get a lip gloss because I have been on the search for the perfect lip gloss for almost two months now. Everything I have tried just doesn't look right. I'm looking for that perfect lip gloss, you know that perfect shade that is just a few tones lighter than your bare lip. This gloss in the color Venus is almost a nude lip color with golden hints of sparkle. It's a pigmented lip gloss that has a high shine with long-lasting color while making your lips look fuller. Although I don't need any help in the fullness department, I'm hoping that this will be the lip gloss I have been searching for.
After adding one coat of lip gloss I also added some highlighter on my nose, under each brow and cheekbones to complete my look. I really like the lip gloss and although sadly it's not the perfect color for me, I don't hate it. It smells like cupcake frosting and has a non-sticky formula that applied very smooth with no drip. I'm sure it would look great on top of a lipstick as well. I would definitely love to try their other shades and maybe find my perfect lip gloss!
Verdict: This month's products were very interesting and although I love receiving eyeshadow palettes, I love how BoxyCharm mix things up. They keep us guessing what they will send each month. If I had to choose a favorite this month, it would have to be the GlamGlow Cleanser. It's super fun to use and gets the job done. It's so fun to try tons of new makeup, but at the end of the day, it all has to come off and this cleanser was perfect for that. I hope you enjoyed this month as well.
