BuffBoxx April 2019 Review
BuffBoxx does not include an itemized list of the content within the box, so it was up to me to decide where to start! This is my first month receiving this box, and my first thought was, “wow – there is just so much stuff here!”
Hoist Hydration Beverage (Orange), 1 - 16 oz bottle – Buy a case of 12 for $24.00
I might be in the minority, but I truly enjoy an ice-cold sports drink. Growing up, I used to drink Tang at my grandmother’s house, and this orange flavor took me right back there. I loved that it was flavored orange, but naturally and without any added sugars. It had the right level of (almost salty) tang, and I thought that it was tasty and a perfect hydration drink. Hoist is an isotonic beverage, formulated to instantly replenish your body and mind.
Lil Buff Microwaveable Silicone Container – Retail Value $8.00
I’m a fan of silicon, microwaveable, collapsible containers so I was excited to see this in the box! The intent of this container is to quickly bake your buff protein cakes (two of which were included in this box). It held up perfectly in the microwave and cleaned easily in the dishwasher. Check and check!
Lil Buff Fit-Fetti Protein Cake Single Serving Pouch, 22 oz. – Retail Value $5.00
Good for you cake? Sign me up! This Fit-Fetti Protein Cake Mix contains 26 grams of protein and is 250 calories baked. You do need to supply a few ingredients: an egg white, some almond milk, and a bit of applesauce.
I couldn’t wait to try this but I didn’t have apple sauce on hand, so I substituted some oil – unfortunately I don’t think that worked well. I am going to wait to make the other pouch until after I get some apple sauce in my house to see if the texture is better. This product gets fantastic reviews online, I didn’t have a great experience with it, but I also didn’t follow the directions so I’m thinking the problem was with my recipe change versus a faulty product. Regardless, it’s a cool idea!
Lil Buff Cocoa Crave Protein Cake Single Serving Pouch, 22 oz. – Retail Value $5.00
I love that they included two different flavors and the silicon baking dish. What a nice, cohesive addition! I just wish that the mix worked with something I had on hand so that I could try it right now.
Original PBfit Peanut Butter Powder, 3 - 24g packs – Buy 8 oz for $7.98
I loved that this box included single serving packs, and there was plenty in a single serving to satisfy my craving. This peanut butter powder has 87% less fat and about 1/3 of the calories of traditional peanut butter. You can use it in smoothies, baking, and shakes – but I decided to simply use it as a dip for some celery sticks. I thought that it was a pretty good replica for peanut butter, but if you were paying attention, you could tell that it wasn’t the “real stuff” because of its slightly thinner consistency. It was quite good as a dip, and I’d venture to guess that in a smoothie you wouldn’t be able to taste the difference.
BUFFBOXX Women's Racerback Tank in Heather Black – Retail Value $19.99
I’m a fan of Racerback tanks, and I thought this branded logo was perfect for the box. It’s a fun, lightweight tank that I’ll get plenty of use out of this summer.
Women's UA Tech V-Neck – Retail Value $24.99 (Found here for $18.99)
I prefer loose workout gear and love this simple white V-neck. The material is super breezy and intended to keep you cool using moisture-wicking technology to quickly remove sweat from your skin. It is anti-odor, is quick drying, and is made of 100% polyester. This is a super useful, quality item that I believe most people subscribing to this box would enjoy.
BUFFBOX Carabiner
This is probably a little promotion freebie but does appear to be a decent quality carabiner that features a keychain loop. These always come in handy to clip things onto bags or to hold a spare key.
Sweet Sweat ‘Splat’ Gym Bag in Pink – Retail Value $12.99
Sweet Sweat is a topical gel that may help support and promote circulation, motivation, and sweat when used during exercise. This nylon bag is about 13” x 18” and is black and pink on one side, reversed on the other. It’s a great size for a gym bag but does feel a bit promotional and odd since no other sweet sweat products were included. I would have liked to sample some gel!
Gripmaster Spring Loaded Finger Piston System (Heavy) – Retail Value $14.50
I received a blue grip master boasting 7 lbs of resistance per finger. The intent of this device is to strengthen weaker fingers, while greatly improving hand, wrist and forearm strength. I spent a ridiculous amount of time sitting at my computer, so I love having little things like this around my home office to do while I’m on conference calls. This actually feels really good to do, and I’m excited to see the progress that I made with finger strength in the coming weeks while doing these exercises.
Verdict: BuffBoxx was a bit of a mixed bag for me this month. I really liked the hoist, UA Tee, and Gripmaster. I felt that the branded/promotional items had inflated value (nylon bag and tank), and some of the items felt like samples (carabiner and PBfit power). As for value, I received 10 items, and at $49.99 for the subscription that’s like paying 4.99 for each one. I think the estimated $65.48 value felt OK, not great – I would have liked to see at least 1 other higher priced item and less of the promotional filler type stuff.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the May box. There is some customization with Buffboxx, so in a given month, someone else’s box contents might not match mine.
