California Found April 2019 Review
Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative. It also points out that they donate 10% of their profit every month to a charitable cause, and this month they are donating to No Kid Hungry: California. Also, they have added a Golden Ticket contest - so if you find one in your sizzle, you get a free box for yourself or a friend!
7" Spread Knife by Savannah's Woodshop - Retail Value $15
Look at this gorgeous hand-carved butter knife! It's made of cherry wood, and you can see the slight imperfections in the wood if you look very closely. I love that! So much hard work clearly went into this. It's way too pretty for casual use, but I will definitely put it out with some pastiche at my next social event. The artisan behind this lovely piece is owner Savannah Sutherland of Southern California.
Lavender + Poppy Exfoliating Goat's Milk Soap by Fiddlefish - Retail Value $8
I love a good bar of luxurious soap, and this is one of the nicest soaps I have ever used. The lavender scent is extremely light, which makes it okay for morning use. Too much lavender makes me sleepy! The poppy seeds are great for the skin, and it lathers really well. Plus goat's milk always makes my skin feel soft. It also contains a host of vitamins, including D, B1, B6, B12, and E, and it includes only really high quality, organic, and all natural ingredients. Fiddlefish is based in Los Angeles.
Organic Strawberry Spread by Just Jan's - Retail Value $7.50
Oh my. This is so, so good. It's almost like a dessert. Wow. And it's so simple, just organic strawberries, sugar, lemon, and fruit pectin to make it gel. I really appreciate that about it - so simple, organic, and all natural! It's something I can feel pretty good about serving to my family. Owner Jan Hogrewe is the master chef behind all of Just Jan's creations and is also based out of Los Angeles.
Short Cement Succulent Planter by Barton Burns - Estimated Value $8 (buy a set of 2 for $16)
I really like the elegant design and pale color of this mini succulent planter. It's about 2" tall and 3" across. Barton Burns is the brainchild of Van Nuys, California-based artisan and physical therapist Erica Barton. She hand makes these planters to raise funds for herself and her husband to go on medical mission trips to provide aid in foreign countries. What a noble purpose!
DIY Meditative Terrarium by In Succulent Love - Retail Value $21.99
I am absolutely thrilled to receive a succulent in this month's California Found! I am a huge fan of succulents in general, and this little one is so beautiful! I believe it's a Graptosedum California Sunset if I'm identifying it correctly based on their website. I think this DIY kit is awesome, too. It has little stones, a tiny bottle with some sand to put in it, and a crystal. In Succulent Love is the San Diego based business of artisan Jessica Hartmann. I am so excited to have a plant for my new little pot! In fact...
I know that's a lot of glamour shots for my little succulent, but look at how beautiful that is! I love it!
Herkimer Diamond Necklace - Retail Value $42
I never in my life expected to get a diamond necklace in a subscription box, but here we are! I actually love herkimer diamonds; I think they are really cool looking. This necklace was handmade by the artisans at Los Angeles based 100 Graces. They put a lot of emphasis on their stones and crystals and the healing and vibrational properties of them. Herkimer diamonds are good for clearing away energies and allowing spiritual attunement. The silver chain is really delicate and pretty, and the little silver beads keep the stone from sliding too much. This is awesome!
The Verdict: California Found has become one of my favorite subscription boxes! This month was an especially awesome one! I am completely in love with my new little succulent, and the necklace is beautiful, too. I don't know, everything was so great this month! The value of everything adds up to $102.49, which is more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49, including free shipping!
