Field to Cup Tea Discoverer May 2019 Review
The information insert includes a description of each tea, steeping instructions, and a place for you to record your thoughts on each brew.
Also included was our monthly roll of disposable tea bags for the perfect steep! I won't be needing these this review because I received the most incredible glass tea infuser from my recent JourneeBox. The teas sent by Field to Cup are often as pretty as they are tasty, so it just made perfect sense to shoot them bagless so we can appreciate all the pretty ingredients.
Obsessed with my mug? Field to Cup sells one just like it but with a beautiful bamboo lid! This is going on my wishlist.
Let's drink some tea!
Green Tea Toasted Breakfast Blend, 20g- Buy 85g for $11.95
This is my type of tea! Gosh, I love it! As ridiculous as it sounds for someone who already gets tea each month to review, I am going to have to buy more of this STAT. Let me give you some background: After I got married my husband and I ran off to the middle of nowhere in Idaho to live with some friends and figure out what to do with our lives. There was a tiny tea house in our town and one night when I was feeling totally confused about life in general, I enjoyed a pot of tea with my friend. We picked the weirdest sounding one and "puffed rice" in a tea was completely odd to us. We both ended up falling in love. This tea couldn't be more similar. It has the same incredible roasted rice quality with the bright green vibes of matcha. Just smelling this immediately took me back and made me so nostalgic.
Black Tea French Macaron, 20g- Buy 85g for $8.08
Another really unique blend this month! This ladylike tea is a mix of black tea, apple pieces, yogurt pieces, almonds, and violet flavoring. It also has blue mallow blossoms which you can actually see above in the image! It is slightly sweet, creamy, and very floral. The almonds give it a super sugary deepness that works really well with the other ingredients. I didn't notice the apple flavoring really at all.
Oolong Tea Organic Hibiscus Hint, 20g- Buy 85g for $11.18
This was a big leaf tea! Leaves of this size work so much better in an infuser like this, and I get the added bonus of admiring them as they brew. The hibiscus note here is incredibly subtle, and lives in the finish, with just a wee bit of tang as you swallow. The tea itself is earthy and somewhat green, but incredibly light, as Oolongs tend to be. Because of the hibiscus, the tea did turn just a little pink the longer it brewed, which was very petty! I liked this tea very much.
Black Tea Raspberry Breeze, 20g - Buy 85g for $5.63
Berry teas can always be a little hit or miss for me, because I dread an artificial berry flavor. That is never the case with my Field to Cup berry teas. They always taste fresh and incredibly genuine. You can actually see the raspberry pieces in the blend, so it is no wonder it was utterly authentic and tasty! This tea also has a creamy sweetness to it because it has little vanilla pieces scattered n with the berries. Add cream if you want, but it is delightful on its own.
Black Tea Essentially Summer, 40g- Buy 85g for $6.00
This tea was ALMOST there for me. The ingredient list boasts black tea, orange blossom petals, safflower petals, elderberry blossom, flower pollen, and natural peach mango flavoring. The peach/mango was where it lost me. It was really overpowering, especially for someone who prefers herbal to fruit. I want to give this tea it's full due though, because Haim and Shirley very rarely get it wrong with their tea selections. They also recommend it iced so I can't wait to give that a try! Hot it is just overpowering, and all of those delicate flowers get drowned out in the fruit.
Verdict: Field to Cup is always one of my favorite monthly subscriptions. The adventurous blends and exciting ingredients really make me so happy! There were some serious winners this month. Honestly, I loved that roasted rice tea so much they could have just sent that and I would have been ridiculously happy. Of course, my other faves were easily the French Macaroon and the Oolong, but I liked the raspberry too! The Summer blend is something I might have to experiment with, but I am more than willing to try it cold. Even if I still dislike it, Field to Cup allows all of their subscribers the ability to replace any tea they don't like in their next box. Who doesn't love risk free tea? As always, this remains one of my top choices for tea subscriptions. Give it a try!
