KitNipBox May 2019 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a cooking theme:
The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.
Playful Pet Chef’s Special Ravioli 2 Pack – Listed Value $5
These are adorable little felt toys with not much stuffing (if any) and a little rattle ball inside each one, so they have been put in the home office so no one will play with them while I am trying to sleep at night (this is the fate of all noisy toys). Angus seems to like them, though, and Monkey likes the felt texture.
Max All Nip Crinkle Oven Mitt – Listed Value $4
This one is stuffed with only catnip (hence “all nip” in the name) and several cats seemed to want to chew on it. Well, whatever works!
Farm to Table Vegetable Wand – Listed Value $7
This was Angus’s favorite item for the month, but the wands usually are. Madison paid more attention to it than he usually does with wand toys, so that was a bonus. (You’ll get a wand most months in this subscription box and they are all a little different.)
All for Paws Dried Salami Kicker – Listed Value $6
This is a kicker toy, but on the small side, which is preferable to my cats anyway. This is almost certainly going to be one that Monkey goes after in the future (I catch him sneaking into the office and violently wrestling with toys rather often – it’s pretty cute, but of course I never have a camera on me to capture it for you).
Pet Winery Meowsling – Retail Value $4.95
This is catnip-flavored water with some fish oil in it. Pretty much all of my cats will sniff this, and Monkey will make an absolute mess of the floor playing around with it in a bowl, but none of them will drink it outright. If your cat drinks it properly, the fish oil has omega 3 fatty acids that can be good for skin, joints, and coat.
Leap Gourmet T-Bone Pillow – Listed Value $5
This is large but it has some stuffing and it is super lightweight. It also makes noise, I guess there is a rattle in this one too. This one would be good for snuggling or wrestling. It also has a slightly different texture from any of the other toys (my cats are big into textures so this is a good thing).
Safemade All Nip Catnip Catsup – Listed Value $5
Normally I despise this spelling of “catsup” but it is appropriate for a cat subscription box, isn’t it? This is a kicker-sized toy but it is heavy because it is all catnip inside (no stuffing). Monkey licked this obsessively and I caught Sneaky rubbing herself all over it while waiting for breakfast this morning.
Gratuitous cat photos:
Angus investigates various items from the box, once again from his perch on my table. (He hears me opening boxes and jumps up there in excitement.)
I was taking pictures of another cat and Monkey kept trying to get in the box. He enjoyed some of the other items as well.
I kept missing Madison’s paw going after the wand. But he showed interest in several items from the box this month.
Sneaky sniffed everything but was a little miffed the treat this month wasn’t food. (She was just getting off a higher dose of prednisolone for her asthma and she was super hungry.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $36.95 for the May KitNipBox, which is above the $29.99 cost of the box by a few dollars. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like Kitnipbox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. We were happy with all the different textures. The “all nip” toys were particularly appreciated, and I loved how the toys were all different sizes this month as well.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first KitNipBox will ship right after your payment processes, so you should still be able to get May’s box if you sign up now.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $29.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $4.28.
