Meowbox "Flashback Furriday" April 2019 Review
Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes.
The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a 1980s theme.
Feline Fanny Pack - Retail Value $5
The items in Meowbox are usually custom-made for the box, so unless they’re in the Meowbox shop, I don’t have a way to find values for them. So you won’t see prices for everything in this review.
This is called a fanny pack but the strings are not actually long enough to tie around even a skinny cat’s waist (I tried with Monkey, believe it or not, he only weighs 10 pounds under all that fur). However, the strings are of very great interest to kitties.
Laser Tucker’s Crazy 80s Laser Pointer - Retail Value $6
Laser pointers can be either good (if they actually work) or bad (if they don’t work well or are weak). This is one of the good ones. Several cats enjoyed chasing the red dot.
Crochet Kitty Roller Skate Toy - Retail Value $6
This is a felt catnip toy with a few ribbons hanging off. It is lightweight and good for tossing around. Angus was a fan.
Pusheen Cassette Cat Toy - Retail Value $6
This is a small-to-medium catnip plush that is a good size for either wrestling or tossing, and the “tape” part is a ribbon, which was also popular. Mr. Kitty snuggled with this one while sleeping in the sunny window.
Meowbox Fishiez Crisps (0.71 oz)
These are very large pieces (you can see them in the kitty pictures below). I think they are meant to be broken into smaller pieces. Sneaky figured out how to do that on her own. Sneaky and Madison were both interested in these (Sneaky somewhat more so).
Gratuitous cat photos:
He also liked the fanny pack (but is too fat for me to put it around his waist, and yes, I tried).
Madison attempted to eat the treats although he wasn’t ultimately successful.
He was into the laser pointer as well.
Monkey bit the treat, but didn’t eat it.
Monkey did not understand the laser pointer.
Sneaky did understand the treats and actually managed to break off pieces on her own and eat them.
But don’t tell her she likes the same toy as Angus…
Mr. Kitty, September (?) 2004 - April 23, 2019
This is the hardest review I’ve ever had to write and I put it off for a while--I am crying so much right now. A few days after I took these pictures, I had to rush Mr. Kitty to the emergency vet because he wasn’t responding to his insulin and he was having trouble breathing and swallowing. They did X-rays and we found out he had a really big liver tumor. Because he was chronically ill for so long, we knew he wouldn’t survive any type of treatment, and he was in pain, so we had to have him put to sleep. I am just so sad, and I miss him so much.
The Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for Meowbox this month because the items were all exclusive and not all are available in the Meowbox shop yet. There were five items, so each has an average value of about $4.59, which is reasonable for premium cat toys. The toys were particularly popular this month and the theme was also cute (I grew up mostly in the 80s so I remember roller skates and cassette tapes)
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your subscription would likely start with May, but watch the Meowbox site as some of the individual items are on sale there.
Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus free shipping, you are paying approximately $4.59 per item.
