Succulents Box May 2019 Review
All of the boxes I receive include these care instructions. They are simple and easy to follow.
My boxes also come with an invoice.
Before I really get into my review, I just want to quickly indicate how disappointed I was when I opened this month’s box. None of the plants were wrapped the way they normally are except for one, which was a really tall one. My plants normally have tissue wrapped between the soil and the plant to keep them in place and they are bubble wrapped. Due to this, most of the plants were really neglected. I reached out to customer service and they confirmed that if there's an issue with a subscriber's box, they'll send a replacement right away.
Tomentosa Kalanchoe
This particular plant kept losing its leaves. I delicately dust them off before photographing them, but when I lightly brushed, leaves just fell. It was awful. This plant is truly so pretty and different than any other plant I have. I love the brown around the edges. I have planted this one and hope that it makes it, but as of today, almost all of the leaves have fallen off.
Haagei Pachyveria
This was another neglected plant, but was in the best shape out of all of them, even though one of the leaves is obviously withered. The color in this plant is really pretty; I enjoy the light red around the edges. The leaves are really thick and if it survives, will make a fantastic addition to my succulent garden.
Percarneum Aeonium
This is probably my favorite plant in this month’s box. It is tall and beautiful! I love the shape of the inside flower. Like the first plant, though, this beauty is quickly losing her leaves. I have planted her and watered her and hope she thrives.
Olivia Graptoveria
This was the most neglected plant of them all. The soil was almost completely gone and the half the leaves were dead and dried out. I planted this one but it almost immediately died. There was no recovering this plant. I am so disappointed – it would have fit perfectly in my succulent garden with others that look similar to them.
This is my succulent garden. We just recently bought our house and I was able to remove a tree that grew uncontrollably and stabbed anyone who walked close to it. This area is right in front of my house and gets direct sunlight for probably an hour or 2 out of the day. I am still working on the landscaping under it, so just ignore that for now. Most of my plants are doing really, REALLY good.
Especially the panamensis kalanchoe plant that I received in February and the senecio rowleyanus, string of pearls that I received in March. My blue fairy echeveria plant is also starting to flower! I got that one back in January. Eventually, I hope to have the whole area full of thriving succulents.
Verdict: I am always excited to open up my Succulents Box subscription every month, especially now more than ever since we own our home and I am trying to grow and care for a succulent garden. But this month just fell flat and disappointed me so much. My 8-year-old daughter, Bella, opened this box with me and she felt exactly the same as I did. Out of the four plants, one is completely dead, two lost most of their leaves and the other is just barely hanging on. I really hope that this was just a one-time mishap and that next month’s will box will be cared for and gently delivered.
