The Holo Hookup April 2019 “Mythical Creatures” Review
Cupcake Polish in Nereid, 15 mL – Estimated Value $13 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup, but check out other holographic polishes from Cupcake Polish here)
Nereid is a pale grey holo filled with light blue and pink iridescent flakes, shifting glitter, and shimmer. It is absolutely fantastic, and it really gives me Game of Thrones vibes. The polish formula is a little thick, and I think it is easiest to work with by doing one coat of Nereid over a coat of regular silver rather than doing multiple coats of Nereid.
Different Dimension in Alicorn, 15 mL – Estimated Value $11 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup, but check out other holographic polishes from Different Dimension here)
When I pulled this shade out of the box I literally gasped- it is stunning. It is a pastel purple crème-based holo with shifting shimmer, and it reminds me of a holographic easter egg. The formula on this polish was great and I had no issues applying it.
Glisten & Glow in Centaur, 15 mL – Estimated Value $12 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup. Check out the other polishes offered by Glisten & Glow here)
I wanted to love this shade- in the bottle Centaur is a beautiful light pastel pink holo with lots of micro glitters, but once I applied it the color washed me out. The formula pulled when I went in with the second coat, so I would make sure to use thin coats and leave time between each one.
Illyrian Polish in Slyph, 15 mL - Estimated Value $13 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup. Check out the other polishes offered by Illyrian Polish here)
The guest brand this month created a seafoam blue loaded with holo sparkles and flakes, and it reminds me of a glittering ocean. This polish is a touch sheer, so you need to layer it over another polish or do three thin coats for full opacity.
Here are the swatches. From left to right we have Slyph, Alicorn, Nereid, and Centaur.
The Verdict: The Holo Hookup is a great box if you love unique nail polish- and this month’s pastels felt perfect for Spring! The $44 box cost is steep, but I think it is worth it when you look at the unique, box exclusive polishes that are high quality and fun- all of these polishes are only available through this box.
