This month's theme is called “Getaway” and during these hot summer months, that’s exactly what everyone wants to do. I had been sneaking a peek at the spoilers for this month so I'm excited to see what makeup look I can create. Let’s get into June’s Boxycharm.
I was super excited when I saw that we were getting another primer from Touch in Sol. I absolutely fell in love with the first primer we received from them, so I’m hoping I love this one just as much. This month we received their No Poreblem Prime Essence with Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract. The flower extract helps to shrink the look of pores and to smooth out your skin texture. The claims say that this primer should leave your skin with a flawless, dewy, and fully prepped complexion. I’m a girl that loves a good primer and never apply my foundation without it. A good primer is the secret to a flawless makeup application. It also helps your makeup last, while keeping down shine.
After washing my face I used a pearl-sized amount to cover my entire face (a little bit goes a long way). I gently pat the primer into my skin using my fingertips. Then I wait about five minutes for it to settle in before adding my makeup. I find that by waiting for the primer to completely absorb into my skin, I don't smear my primer and foundation together. There is a very light scent but nothing too overwhelming. It’s a clear formula and if you look closely you will see that it has very tiny shimmers in it. It feels lightweight and very hydrating on my skin. I can't wait to see how it looks after adding my foundation.
Ok, I'll be honest. I was really hoping to receive the Tarte ProGlow Highlight and Contour Palette, but I'm just as excited to receive the Tarte Be You. Naturally. Eyeshadow Palette. Now I have a third Rainforest of the Sea palette to add to my collection. If you are looking for this one anywhere online you won't find it, because it happens to be a Boxycharm-exclusive palette! I have always loved Tarte Cosmetics packaging - this eyeshadow palette has lovely purple and teal palm trees, not to mention a nice size mirror to work with.
I don't have to wait and see if I like these shades, because if they are the exact same formula as the others, they are awesome. The Amazonian clay formula makes these shadows so soft and smooth. The colors in this palette are simple but gorgeous. There are four shimmer shades and four matte. It pretty much has everything you need to create different natural looks. There are pinks, bronze and brown tones. There are no bold colors, just very warm and neutral shades that you can wear on a daily basis and looks good on any skin tone.
Because these are very basic colors, we will be creating a very easy and simple look, something beginners can master. An everyday run to the market look, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with basic:
I began with an eyeshadow primer just to help the colors stand out and last throughout the day while I run all my errands.
The first shade will be Daybreak, using a small fluffy brush I place it all over my lid and up above my crease as well. It's the perfect transition shade.
Next, I took another fluffy medium brush and placed the shade Explore in my crease using heavy windshield wiper motions. I dipped my brush in several times to really build up that brown matte shade in my crease. I really wanted it to stand out.
Here is how the brown shade looked when added to crease.
Then I wet a small flat brush and added the pretty shimmer shade Earthy on my lids. These shimmer shades pretty much come alive when wet - I love this color.
Here is how it looks so far.
To complete this simple and basic look I took a plain black matte from another palette and placed that in my outer corners to marry all my shades together.
Since this is a basic makeup look, I chose a tinted BB cream instead of a full coverage foundation. A BB cream is a great option for those days when you don't want to look too made up. I also added one coat of black mascara and a very thin coat of black eyeliner. Instead of drawing in and defining my brows like I normally do, I just used a brown eyebrow pencil and with a light hand, filled in the rough areas.
If you want to take this eye look into the night, you can add these last two steps: using a small brush add the shade Earthy under each brow bone. Finally add the shade Glacier to the inner corners of the eye, highlighting the area. (You can also add more mascara and define the brows more.)
I simply love how easy these colors are to work with, the pigmentation is outstanding and the finish is super smooth. I think this palette would be a great addition for the makeup beginner because the shades are really easy to work with and very easy to blend. I really like the way the BB cream sits on top of this primer, making it look smooth. I can tell this primer would hold up great with a foundation as well.
Our next product is from Steve Laurant Cosmetics and is their jelly highlighter in the color cotton candy. This is a new brand for me and I love trying new brands because you never know when you're going to find a diamond in the rough. The brand calls this a "powder jelly hybrid." It has a wet formula that dries to a powder like finish, so it’s very smooth and creamy. The product says you can apply this with either a brush or your fingertips, so I decided to give both a try.
I applied the highlighter with a brush on one side of my face and the other side, I used the tip of my finger and slowly patted it into place. Because this highlighter has a very slippery and mousse-like feel to it, I found that using my fingertips work best. You can decide what works best for you.
Here is how the jelly highlighter looks added to the tip of my nose and cheeks. I love how it literally looks like a glow from within. It’s very light and subtle. I did not think I would like this highlighter as much as I do, and I think that is because it's so easy to manipulate. You can use a light touch for a subtle glow or a heavier hand for a more intense glow. Since my makeup look is so simple, I only used very little, however, I can see myself having fun with this highlighter on a night out.
This next product is from the brand Dirty Little Secret Cosmetics and I actually own a few things from this brand. I received the color pale pink which is a nude pale pink like the name suggests. I’m not a huge fan of wooden lip liners because, in my opinion, they tend to be very dry. The brand describes these lip liners as creamy, long lasting, and hydrating. Those claims sound like a lip liner I’d love to have, so let's give this a try and see how well it applies:
Instead of only applying this around my mouth in lip liner form, I decided to bring the pencil up towards the middle of my lips for more color. It was a little on the dry side and I felt as though I was tugging at my lips. Unfortunately, this color is not for me. I think this would absolutely look great on someone with a fairer skin tone. I decided to remove the lip liner and move ahead to our final product:
Our final item in this months box is something I’m very excited to try. I have heard great things about this lip gloss. It’s Dominique Cosmetics Lemonade lip gloss in the shade peach tea. I love, love (did I say love) the smell! It smells like a creme brûlée good enough to eat and the simple packaging is very classy and chic. That baby pink and gold just bring out the girl in me.
The Lemonade Lip Gloss Collection includes four glosses that all have that lip like color. They are lightweight with a non-sticky and flexible formula. The glosses were created to give a dewy effect that adds fullness to the lips. They also have sheer to medium coverage and can be worn alone or layered over your lipstick.
I only applied one coat and I'm already enjoying the way it feels on my lips. It’s super glossy but in a good way. It’s not too thick and there is no sticky feeling whatsoever. I also noticed how evenly it wears on the lips. I’m actually loving the simplicity of this gloss. It’s so similar to the color of my lips and gives an elegant and natural touch. You can't really see the color but the shine is very flattering on my lips! This lipgloss will look good alone or on top of any lipstick. If you are looking for a decent lipgloss you can wear both every day or for full-on glam looks, I most definitely recommend these! Although we created a very basic look, I really hope you enjoyed the simplicity of it.
Verdict: This month was very interesting with both new and familiar brands. It’s always a good month for me if I receive primers, I honestly don't think we see them enough. The Tarte palette was a good ol' classic and both the highlighter and the lipgloss really surprised me in a good way. I really hope you enjoyed your June Boxycharm just as much as I did. I can't wait to read the comments and find out what were your favorites.
