CHC Vintage Outfit May 2019 Review

This subscription is customized based on your size and preferences from a survey you fill out after subscribing, so everyone receives something different each month. But that’s part of the fun! This was my fourth time receiving this outfit subscription:

There is usually a handwritten card with some styling suggestions. The level of detail just gives me the feeling that the people at CHC Vintage are really excited by what they do.

I find that my preferences are really listened to, as well. I don’t wear shorts or super short skirts and what I received this month (see below) is definitely a length that works for me:

1950s/1960s Era Skirt and Stretchy Tee

I know when I filled out my profile for CHC Vintage I mentioned that I like bold prints and bright colors and they delivered this month! (Seriously, they are the only clothing subscription where I have a profile that has ever listened to me about that.)

I know the styling suggestion on the card was to tuck the shirt in but I was feeling kind of bloated (a combination of hormones and retaining water from eating too much salt) and that really would not have worked the day I took these pictures.

Moving on, the skirt is super lightweight for summer. The tee is a little thicker and made from a knit material, but it seems very breathable (it’s also quite soft and stretchy). And the colors are just great. I have a lot of shoes that will go with this; I just grabbed the first ones I saw (they really do match part of the skirt pattern). There are lots of possibilities for accessories like statement necklaces, too!

1950s Neutral Handbag

The accessory for this month was a small handbag. You can tuck the strap inside and use it as a clutch, but I just know I would set a clutch down somewhere, never to be seen again. This is a good size for an evening out; it’ll fit a few necessities like a lipstick and keys and a card case and a phone.

I’ve recently become a fan of lightweight handbags. They’re not quite big enough for everyday use for me, but when you are going to be standing up and/or walking all day or evening, it’s cool to not have 15 pounds hanging off your shoulder, and this will match a lot of different outfits in my closet.

Verdict: I am getting a better sense of what to expect with the CHC Vintage Outfit subscription. I said I was open to outfits from different decades and I have really gotten a spread all the way from the 1940s through the 1990s. Everything has been in wonderful shape (this month included) and all the bottoms have been a length I was happy with (I don’t wear shorts or super short skirts). I’ve received lots of colors and prints and a variety of interesting accessories including some very cute small evening bags and some good everyday use jewelry. I also appreciate that everything I have received is work-appropriate (for me, anyway). Anyway, I am always happy to see bright pink and purple so this was a good month for me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, every box is different.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $150 for three months or $50 a month + free shipping, so each of the 3 items has an average cost of $16.67.

This is all very cute but the vintage era seems way off. This reads to me more like late ’80s/early 90’s career wear than 50s/’60s. I am by no means an expert, but I remember wearing outfits like this to my first post-college job in 1992.

Was going to say the exact same thing!

I like everything they send you—could it be because you are so slender? I have decided that a flour sack would look good on you and you will have shoes to match!

Everything always looks great on her and I also came to the conclusion that Virginia did that even a flour sack would look nice on her.
