2017 Daring Escape Lazy Breeze White – Listed Value $22.00 (Member Price $17.60)
Tasting Notes: Peach, Lemon, Lime
“Some wines are as they say: “a walk in the park,” and some are something more. When you first break into the Daring Escape there’s a freshness that is almost overpowering. For us, this wine tastes like the beginning of a great adventure. It makes us want to take the bottle and explore the wild unknown. It’s mouthwatering, with vibrant fruit flavors that jump around the glass. Try pairing it with sweet or fatty foods, as the natural acidity cuts through the rich flavors. Maybe get a little adventurous and try making a new dish to accompany this wine. Judges love it too! It took home a Silver medal at the 2018 Harvest Challenge and the 2019 Monterey International Wine Competition.”
This is a wine that I really enjoy, although I wouldn’t quite agree with its info card. I find it to be very sweet on the front but I'm left with the acidic note on the finish. Chilling mitigates some of the acidity and I love this wine ice cold. This is a past favorite of mine that I rated on in my profile, so I was glad to see it again.
2018 Masterworks Series Pecorino – Listed Value $23.00 (Member Price $19.99)
Tasting Notes: Lemon, Mineral, Tropical Fruit
“The pairing of art and wine is a classic combination. No art gallery opening is complete without a glass of wine, and we think that no bottle is complete without great art. With so many decisions to be made, from selecting grapes at the vineyard to bottling the juice months later at the winery, making wine ends up being an act of expression that says as much about a culture as an art form. This wine is a beautiful Italian Pecorino that hails from Terre di Chieti in Abruzzo and is as expressive and dazzling as the "Birth of Venus" that graces the front of the bottle. The light but fragrant white wine is an exploration of tropical fruits, white flowers, and a balanced profile.”
This label! What a delight to have displayed on my bar cabinet in my dining room – how fancy I feel! The wine is delicious to boot! Similar in profile to the first wine this month, although I found this to be less sweet. To me, this is a perfect summer table wine.
2017 Tumbleturn Rosé – Listed Value $19.00 (Member Price $17.99)
Tasting Notes: Strawberry, Pomegranate, Plum
“A good rosé is all about celebration. It’s a mingling and a middle ground, a crowd-pleaser that can be elegant, complex and fun at the same time. Rosé is capable of bringing red wine lovers and white wine lovers together, and it offers the best of both worlds. The Tumbleturn Rosé has the bright red fruits you get from a red wine - plums, strawberries, and pomegranates with the lightness and acidity from white wines. These characteristics blend together to create a drinking experience that is one of our favorites. It’s the type of wine that is a joy to explore by itself with no accompaniment but is equally at home working in concert with your dinner. Try opening the Tumbleturn at your next party and see how well it complements the dishes. And it took home a Silver medal from the 2019 West Coast Wine Competition.”
If you poured this in a glass and told me that it was strawberry wine, I would have totally believed you. It is very fruity, semi-sweet with a balanced body and acidity. It's a lovelyrosé and a beautiful presentation – I'm a fan of the label as well as the color of this wine. This would be a perfect variety to buy to have on hand to take as hostess gifts all summer long!
2014 Le Douleur Exquise Red Blend – Listed Value $24.00 (Member Price $19.20)
Tasting Notes: Spices, Raspberry, Cherry
“The Pyrenees mountains make up a natural border between southern France and northern Spain. The eastern end makes a sharp drop into the sea at Perpignan, a sleepy border town, creating very interesting conditions for winemaking. The heat and moisture make it perfect for low lying vines that produce small amounts of ripe, hardy grapes that are full-bodied and full of flavor. This French Red is made from grapes grown in these hills. It is juicy with scents of Mediterranean herbs and cherry. The full body and medium acidity mean that it will stand up to rich and gamey foods very well. Our experts have been pairing it with braised game, Coq Au Vin, and roasted vegetables. Judges love it too! It just took home 91 Points and a Gold Medal from the 2018 Critics Challenge!”
I was pleasantly surprised to see this 2014 bottle included again. I have received it in the past, and I rated it highly. My husband loves a good red blend, and this one would easily hold up to a hearty stew or red meat. We enjoyed this bottle with burgers on a brisk spring night – it was the perfect complement to our meal.
2017 Incarnadine Pinot Noir - Zinfandel – Listed Value $22.00 (Member Price $17.60)
Tasting Notes: Vanilla, Cherry, Pomegranate
"Pinot Noir is grown all over the world, but there are only a few places on earth that the subtlety of the grape can really shine through. Thankfully for us, one of those places is California. This wine is a classic California Pinot with great fruit intensity. The light blend of Zinfandel brings some levity with its notes of raspberry and delicious mouthfeel. We get tastes of pomegranate and cherry that are balanced by the smooth vanilla and rich texture that developed when the wine was resting in oak. A wine like this is perfect for pairing with food, and we've enjoyed it with roasted duck, pizza, and appetizers! Judges love it too! It took home a Silver medal in the 2018 Sommelier Challenge."
Another repeat! This wine is one that I don't prefer, but one that my husband adores and preferably rated. It's a semi-sweet red wine with a velvety vanilla and dark cherry finish.
2016 Print Shop Cellars: Tachys Signature Red – Listed Value $26.00 (Member Price $20.80)
Tasting Notes: Blueberry, Spices, Blackcurrant
"Printmaking and winemaking have a lot in common. Both take a combination of artistry, skill, and a drive for perfection. In both, a lot can go wrong, but real artisans turn out works worthy of our notice. Print Shop Cellars honors the hard work that goes inthe the to artistry of all types. This wine is a combination of two of our favorite grapes: Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah. Together they combine to show beautiful blue fruits, a velvety texture, and lively structure. About a third of these grapes come from Lake County from vines that are influenced by Clear Lake, the largest inland lake in California. This is the kind of wine that showcases the complexity that can come from these types of grapes when they are picked and blended with an artist’s precision. Judges love it too! It took home a Double gold medal from the 2018 Harvest Challenge. That means that judges voted unanimously to award it gold, and 90 points and another Gold medal from the 2019 Winemaker Challenge!”
There is a reason that this is a signature! This fruity, semi-sweet well-balanced wine is certainly a treat. I really enjoyed sipping this Sirah blend, although I’m not typically a Sirah drinker.
Verdict: Month to month, it seems like I’ve started to receive about 3 bottles of wine that I had previously rated highly and 3 new bottles – which I feel is quite appropriate. I love that it’s no longer a 6 bottle risk and find that again this month, we enjoyed all of the bottles! Like their wine – this subscription just keeps getting better with time.
Using average prices, you pay around $14.99 per bottle (including shipping) for each of the 6 bottles. Each of these bottles retails for several dollars more than that price, so you are definitely saving some money off of full retail.
