Gentleman's Box Premium "Weekend Getaway" Summer 2019 Review
Included in our box was this booklet full of nice color photos that provides information on all of the brands and the products including their retail values. They also highlight the theme for this quarter, "Weekend Getaway," which is perfect for summer! I love that they also included some packing tips for a long weekend and a summer playlist which definitely added to the experience of opening this box.
I do want to mention the note from the curator which states that the direction of their curation for this box has recently changed due to customer feedback and that their focus is now on quality over quantity. This sounds like a promising start to our box this quarter!
Weekender Duffle Bag by VeganWear - Listed Value $99.00
The first item is this weekender bag that was designed in collaboration with VeganWear to bring you an animal-friendly bag without sacrificing style. This bag is made with eco-friendly polyurethane microfibers and the black material mimics leather fairly well, but I feel like the 100% polyester lining definitely takes away from the sleek, expensive look. Inside it features a zippered pocket on one side with two open pockets on the other. It also features dual rolled straps for carrying and the top zips closed. Additionally, there is a small flap that snaps over top with the VeganWear logo which I think looks nice aesthetically.
It also comes with a detachable, adjustable strap that clips onto two reinforced flaps on either side of the bag. Again, I think the material of the strap keeps it from looking high-end, but functionally it works well. While I think some of the details miss the mark on making it look luxurious, overall, this is a great bag. It is pretty large measuring 18"x8"x13" and will definitely serve the purpose of being the perfect weekender bag. It will also be a bit more sophisticated than my husband's usual choice of a backpack for trips!
Here he has it on to give you a sense of scale. This is an empty bag here, but I have no doubts it will fit quite a bit. My husband claims that it is not really his style, and I agree, it doesn't quite suit him as he prefers canvas bags and more natural colors like browns and greens when it comes to accessories like this. I won't complain since that means I get to make use of this one!
Ekho Wireless Over-Ear Headphones - Retail Value $141.85 USD ($189.00 CAD)
Thank goodness my husband already has a set of wireless headphones that he uses for work because these things are awesome! They are super lightweight and comfortable to wear and they are noise canceling, a feature that works very well on these! Even in a house with three (loud) kids under 5, I am able to hear the music over them, which is pretty much a miracle and might just save my sanity one day. But really, the sound quality is great and I love that there are buttons on the side of the earpiece to control the volume and playback. The range, which is listed as up to 10m, is pretty decent, too. I can get a room or two away from my phone before the sound starts cutting out. These also have a built-in mic and allow you to accept phone calls, although anyone I've spoken to says the sound is a bit muffled for them. It does announce your calls by reciting the phone number that's calling you which is helpful if you aren't right by your phone! It also came with a USB charging cable and an audio auxiliary cable.
Here they are on my goofy husband. I used these for a few hours in one day and the battery life was still almost at full capacity. These are supposed to last up to 10 hours or 10 days on standby and they only take 2 hours to charge.
Defined Men Sunglasses - Listed Value $70.00
The presentation of this next item was on point! They came in this nice heavy black box that opened up to reveal a triangular glasses case with a magnetic closure. Inside that were our sunglasses and a little microfiber cleaning cloth.
The sunglasses themselves have nice tortoiseshell frames made of handcrafted cellulose acetate, which is a natural plastic, and they were hand-cut and then shaped by machine according to the booklet. The lenses are resin and have a low refractive index, low optical distortion, and provide 100% protection against UVA, UVB, and UV400 rays in addition to being shatter-resistant.
My husband was a big fan of these and found them to be nice quality and comfortable to wear. He is a little hung up on that notched out nose detail, but I don't think it looks too odd! Even though these are larger in size and he has a smaller face shape, I think they are still pretty flattering and look nice. He is excited to wear them at the beach this summer!
DeadSoxy Boardroom Socks in Redford - Retail Value $27
How fun is the brand name of these socks? While I linked to what I believe are the exact socks, the fabric makeup is different on our socks than what is listed online. Our tag says they are made from 45% bamboo rayon, 30% cotton, 20% polyester, and 5% elastane while the link says they are 75% bamboo rayon, 20% polyester, and 5% elastane. I'm not sure if that is indicative of anything regarding the quality, but I felt it was worth mentioning! These are still very soft and comfortable and the shades of purple give them a regal feel.
Here they are on my husband. I really like the pattern but I wasn't sure how my husband would feel about them. He says he likes them, although he is not sure he has much purple in his wardrobe to pair them with!
Verdict: This Premium Gentleman’s Box definitely felt like a nice treat, starting with the classy presentation of the mysterious black box. The whole box definitely had a classy vibe and the weekend getaway theme was great for a summer box. I was especially thrilled with the nice, quality headphones that already retail for more than the cost of the box. My husband really liked the sunglasses and I love that they even came in their own protective case for storage. The socks are also nice and something my husband will get use out of for work. The only item that he wasn't excited about was the weekender bag, but that is definitely just a personal style choice. I think it was a great inclusion for this box and I like that it was a collaboration with VeganWear designed for this box. The total value of this box comes to about $338 which is great for a $100 box! I think this box was a great example of quality over quantity so hopefully, they will continue this pattern!
