KitNipBox Multi-Cat June 2019 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a “Jurassic Purrk” theme:
The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.
Safemade Caveman Club Kicker – Listed Value $6
So technically caveman and dinosaurs were separated by kind of a long time period, but whatever. This is a larger, kicker style toy but it has both a wide end and a narrow end as well as a fuzzy texture. Angus liked to bat at the narrow end when I would drag this past him on the carpet.
Playful Pet Pterodactyl Door Dangler – Listed Value $7
This was probably the most popular toy. Sneaky did bite the wrong end, though (you can see that below). But Angus also enjoyed playing with it. I just used it by dragging it on the floor for pictures, but I’ll hang it in the home office now so Angus can play with it at his leisure.
All for Paws Velociraptor – Listed Value $5
This is a cute little fuzzy catnip plush. It’s a good size for tossing and it’s lightweight. Madison and Monkey really wanted to rub their faces on this (they’re old men and that’s what they do now). But Angus liked it as well.
Playful Pet Fossil Crinkle Pillow – Listed Value $6
This is kind of large but actually still lightweight, and with a smoother texture than some of the previous toys (my cats are big into different textures in toys so we appreciate the variety). It does crinkle when played with or squeezed. I’ve put this in a part of the house where Monkey goes to play with toys, mid-morning (basically they track the sun around the house…) as I suspect he’ll get the most out of it, based on similar items received in the past.
Max Crinkle Crunch Volcano – Listed Value $5
This had a puffy part that was extremely well-received. It does also have crinkly stuffing, but my cats were mostly interested in the top part. This is on the same scale as the dinosaur but a little flatter. It would also be good for tossing around.
Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows – Listed Value $4
I’ve used the value from the information card because this is a smaller size than the “value size” found on most retail websites. These are so gross. They are small whole fish with the eyes still there and everything. The only one of my cats who will eat them is Sneaky and she always ends up eating like half the bag because I can’t bring myself to touch them so I dump some out on the floor for her.
Emerald Pet Feline Chicken Dental Treats – Retail Value $3.39
These are crunchy treats that are supposed to help with dental health. It’s too bad Angus can’t have them (he can’t have chicken because of his IBD) because he has stinky breath (don’t worry, we’re asking the vet about that at his appointment next month). But the other three cats all like them well enough. Sneaky will probably end up eating most of them, before and after her asthma treatments.
Gratuitous cat photos:
Today Angus wanted to play from under the coffee table. Look at the claws on that boy!
Madison likes to thoroughly investigate each toy, then rub his face all over it. He also likes treats.
I was taking pictures of Madison and Monkey was rubbing his face on the box.
He did eventually eat this treat, which is great because he usually isn’t at all food-motivated.
The camera chose to autofocus on Monkey but Sneaky is biting the string on the dangler here.
No Sneaky, that’s the wrong end!
Sneaky’s first love is food, of course. (I did not end up bleeding this time!)
Verdict: I calculated a value of $36.39 for the June KitNipBox, which is above the $29.99 cost of the box by a few dollars. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like Kitnipbox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. We were happy with all the different textures, sizes, and types of toys. We don’t mind getting two types of treats, although the dental ones were more loved by my crew.
