Lipstick Junkie May 2019 Review
The theme for May is a Mother’s Day celebration. They say on the info card “Whether you’re a mom, a soon-to-be mom, or just someone who loves lipsticks, we hope you’ll love what’s in this month’s box!” Although I appreciate the effort to tie the box into a holiday in the month, I do feel like the Mother’s Day label feels a little bit exclusionist - there are a lot of women out there who are struggling with infertility, or who have chosen not to have children at all. I would prefer to see a box theme that includes all the people who might be subscribers!
The info card also describes details about each of the products included. Now, onto the fun part - the lipsticks!
Vermillion Cosmetics Verminis in colors Beaming, iCandy, and Birthday Suit - Retail Value $21.00
I love the size of these mini lip stains! I have the constant struggle of trying to fit a lipstick or lipgloss in my clutch purse, and sample-sized or smaller-sized lipsticks are my go-to for when I carry a bag like that. We received three different colors of their lipsticks - a bright bubblegum pink, a neutral beige, and a black.
Here are the shades swatched on my wrist. Unfortunately, none of these colors are remotely wearable for me. I can’t imagine that any of these three colors work for very many skin tones, and I wish they had included shades that more people could have worn. I’m all about trying out bright new lip colors, but these three particular colors looked too cartoonish for me to wear.
The formula feels like a mix between a gloss and a cream, and it dried into a stain-like matte lipstick. I was easily able to remove the lipstick with a makeup remover wipe, which is always a bonus for me. One thing that was interesting to me as I was researching for this review is that the Vermillion Cosmetics company is branding itself as a dental care brand - and it says that they are trying to provide dentist-supported lip products. I don’t see any research or facts backing up how their products are different than anything else on the market, but I found this to be an interesting take on lipsticks!
Please note that the Verminis are not currently for sale on their own. Only the full-size lipsticks are available via their website.
Laritzy Lip Gloss in Supreme - Retail Value $16.00
This lip gloss is described as being formulated as extra hydrating and glossy. The color is very pretty - it’s borderline true red with berry undertones. This is a summer color I can get behind - it’s bright and fun but still very wearable.
The formula is thick without being goopy, and the color payoff is fantastic. I was able to get a full wash of color with just one swipe! I thought this had great staying power and was comfortable to wear. See the look I created with this below!
Beauty Vaulte Lip Liner in Mazy Maya - Retail Value $6.00
This is a deep red lip liner by Beauty Vaulte, which is a new brand to me. The lip liner is described as buttery smooth and blendable, and I found that to be true. It’s a sharpenable pencil, which is great because you can always sharpen it to a fine point.
The card also says that 5% of the company’s profits are donated to an organization that helps victims of domestic violence. I love a company that gives back as part of their mission!
Here are swatches of both the Laritzy lip gloss (top) and the Beauty Vaulte lip liner (bottom). I love that these pair nicely together.
Here I am wearing just the Beauty Vaulte lip liner. I think this is a very easily wearable look! I love a great red lip in the summertime, and I like that this color isn’t too dark or dramatic on me.
And here is the Laritzy lip gloss layered on top of the lip liner. I love how glossy this is, and it wasn’t sticky at all.
Verdict: This month’s Lipstick Junkie has a retail value of $43.00, which is a great value for an $18 subscription box! I think the box is a great way to try new things you wouldn’t typically pick up for yourself. Even though the Vermini colors were a miss for me, I really liked the other two products so this box was still a win for me.
