The packaging is a real showstopper. It's kind of like opening a suitcase in a Bond movie.

Robb Vices May 2019 Review

Included is a handy booklet with all of our product info. These are always filled with tons of useful info and great images.

La Voix Rebel Rebel Pinot Noir, 750 ml - Retail Value $36.00

Inspired by David Bowie (the winemaker proclaimed" I'm not sure if its a boy or a girl!" when he first tasted this wine) this is a bold and intense Pinot Noir that lives up to its namesake. I admittedly prefer Cabs over Pinot, but this wine really won me over. The nose is pure and magical red: roses, berries, currants, etc. The wine itself is pretty acidic, but very woodsy too, thanks to its 22 months in French oak barrels and there is a little something like dark garden dirt in there, but I mean that in only the most positive way! I loved how interesting this wine was with all of those flavors. We enjoyed it with a rich red sauce pasta and it was a lovely compliment.

Brooklyn Slate Cheeseboard - Retail Value $35.00

This beautiful cheeseboard s just shy of 10" x 14", making it the perfect size for an artful arrangement of cheese, fruit, and meat. This board is made in the US, and the slate comes from a family quarry in upstate New York. This board arrived with a little packet with stick-on cork feet and a piece of soapstone chalk for labeling your delights. The slate itself is lovely, a rich grey bordering on black and the board itself is really thick compared to many I have seen for sale in person. I am a cheese addict and I love putting together gorgeous arrangements for company including flowers and fruit. This will 100% get a lot of use in my home.

Malvi Marshmallow Smores, - Buy 3 pairs for $12.00

I always get the most delicious sweets in this box! These marshmallow "smores" arrived in two flavors: spiked espresso and chocolate! They were both absolutely delicious. The cookies on either side were so chocolaty and divine.

Sir Kensington's Special Sauce, 10 fl oz - Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $4.99)

I love sauces like this on hamburgers or hotdogs. A sort of magical hybrid between mayo, relish, mustard, and added paprika, it gives a delightful tang to anything it touches.

Fastashi Pistachios, 6 oz - Buy 1 lb for $15.29

YUM! I absolutely love pistachios! These were extra fancy and felt like a true treat. Perfectly salted and beautifully green, I have been snacking on these from my desk for a few days now. There is something really enjoyable about popping the bright green nuts from their shells. These also had skins of deep pink and purple which added to the visual beauty happening in this bag. I plan on ordering more of these for sure, as they are some of the best-tasting pistachios I have ever had.

Voss Waters in Tangerine Lemongrass and Raspberry Rose, 1.7 oz each - Buy 12 for $19.99

I prefer my water with bubbles, so I was pretty happy to see two bottles of Voss sparkling water also arrived in this box. The two included flavors were really unusual for sparkling water: tangerine lemongrass and raspberry rose. The tangerine lemongrass was understandably very citrusy but also had a bright green lemongrass streak. The raspberry rose was like 99% raspberry, and I would have loved to have more rose, but the berry flavor alone was delicious and bright.

Verdict: This Robb Vices curation was great, but I have some serious issues with the overall value. I am guessing it lands somewhere around $93.97, which is WAY short of the $129.95 box cost (the wine and cheeseboard total $71 meaning the rest of the items need to be worth at least $59 to break even). I am really surprised. I feel like one more big ticket item was needed, but sadly we came up short. The assortment of items was great, I loved each and everything, though the huge value discrepancy really bothers me and takes away a little bit of the sparkle in an otherwise great box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Sign up by the 1st of the month to receive that month's box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $144.90 ($129.95 + $14.95 shipping to PA) meaning each of the 8 items has an average cost of $18.11.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Have you guys reviewed the June box? Very low value again. They didn’t even include an alcoholic or even non-alcoholic bottle this time. Worried maybe this box is going under.

The Voss water and pistachios tbh look like stuff you can get at Ross in the checkout area (though admittedly Ross probably won’t have those flavors!). I was expecting to see a pricy booze too though

I found those flavors at World Market for $2 each.

I think we’re seeing a future end to Robb Vices. Their packaging has even gone down in quality. It used to be that luxe looking laser cut black foam, and now it’s basic styrofoam. The increase in price and the drop in value in the last year.. Just.. not a good look.

I wonder if there was another item that was supposed to come but didn’t, so they just sent the box as is. I have really enjoyed this box in the past but this wasn’t great for the price.

It did feel lacking SOMETHING. Maybe it was just a timing issue?

I felt like this box was missing a voucher for a really nice cheese, or perhaps a beautiful, luxe picnic blanket. Either would’ve created a more cohesive theme & provided the missing value.

Cheese Voucher might be my favorite combo of words ever.

I love Robb Vices as it’s such a great concept and I’ve been a yearly subscriber for years now. But I feel like the value is usually not there anymore (also if I wanted a bunch of the as of lately overpriced skin products – I’d subscribe to a Beauty box). We never get our boxes on time anymore either, but yet they post nonstop about their website to buy other Robb Vices items with crazy expensive shipping costs that anyone can buy now. I am just really disappointed that the company seems to not really give a sh*t lately. I’ve paused one of my yearly subscriptions (for my adult daughter in another city) because frankly, I’ve only been impressed with about 1 every 4 or 5 boxes lately. I’m also over the fact that customers have to prod them for any information at all and to find out when the boxes are shipping (and it’s ALWAYS late and they never will proactively let you know – and they always say it’s shipping next week – and doesn’t) but yet the ceo is busy posting all his vacation photos when basically the customer service (kind of was already) but had remained an absolute disgrace. I’ve put up with the crap because we have a grandfathered subscription rate but I’m just about done – and
I’d be super pissed if I was anyone with the higher subscription rate *ok rant over*

I’m with you. While I haven’t had issues with CS being unresponsive, I have had to contact them over box whereabouts. If I hadn’t, it never would have been sent! I’m also grandfathered in, though not at the original good price, but I’m reaching the point where I’m not sure it’s worth it anymore. I cant imagine anyone would want to sign up at the price it is now! I have thoroughly enjoyed many of my earlier boxes but lately that great curation and content lineup have been lackluster.

What you said is true. We were grandfathered in at the super low rate of $360/6 months and had our sub over two years. We cancelled a few months ago for all the reasons you mentioned. Lousy CS, poor communication and poor box quality. The first two (lousy customer service and poor communication) were the big ones. Last summer they never even shipped the August box (or was it July) and they never said a word. Finally I emailed them towards the end of the month and THEN they sent out a mass email. They promised an extra box when out sub ran out as we were not renewing. Alas, the final box never came so we had to call again and they then promptly sent it out.

It always felt like you had to chase them down to get what you paid for. I feel for all the current subscribers as this months box is really a bust.

Love the cheese board, but I am disappointed with this box overall.

This was not a good box. The theme was forced and not a single one of the items was new or on trend. I can usually forgive Rob Vices when the value isn’t here because the curation is so great but this box is missing everything good about Robb Vices.

Karol

Agree. However, they have explained to me that their curation of the items in their boxes is to experience items that are not well known. The themes are suggestions, not a rigid way to curate. Also, they say they will make up the undervalued boxes with perhaps a great value one next time. I think the value is in exploring the backgrounds of the items.

Exactly. Nothing in the box was new to me except the exclusive label on the wine. While all of these items are great they have been established for a very long time and are nothing new to anyone who has any interest in food or wine. As a result this box doesn’t hit the value mark from an RV, curation, or exposure perspective which is disappointing. Hoping for a better box next month.
