Tea Box Express May 2019 Review
You can usually expect one tea (sometimes more), one accessory, and one edible item (sometimes more) in this box. Occasionally there will be other tea-themed items as well.
There was a card asking you to share your box contents on social media. This subscription typically does not have an information card with it.
Floral Tea Blending Kit from BeauteaStudio (1.5 oz Earl Grey, jasmine petals, marigold petals, and rose petals)
Although there is a blending kit available in the BeauteaStudio Etsy shop, it includes two teas so it isn’t directly comparable to this kit. What you are supposed to do is add a pinch of flower petals to change up the flavor of your tea. This hit a bit of a snag in that the bergamot in the Earl Grey is super strong (my husband smelled it from across the room before it was even brewed) so it kind of drowns out any floral flavor. However, I have plenty of light green and black teas that are not so strong and the flowers will work with them. Also, this is a cute idea in general.
Charles Viancin Daisy Coaster – Retail Value $3.95
These come in several different colors and I don’t know if everyone received the same color, but I happen to like this yellow. I have traditionally only used silicone coasters for hot beverages but this one has grooves (the lower petals) that will hold condensation, which opens up some possibilities. I will take this into my office so that I have something bright on my desk (I drink hot tea all day, so it’ll get used plenty!).
Artisan Sugars Pink and White Roses Café Sugars for Coffee and Tea (4 oz, 24 count) – Estimated Value $11
This exact item wasn’t available in the Artisan Sugars shop but I found something pretty similar so that’s what I’m basing the value on. I do not think these are flavored, but please see my note above about the strength of the bergamot in the Earl Grey. (Some of Artisan Sugars’ products have infused flavors.) I don’t normally add sugar to my tea but I do have a few teas in my drawer at work that are very, very tart and I can’t drink them without sweetening them a bit, so it’s nice to have a non-messy sugar option.
Farmstead Granola Little Apple Treats Granola Cookies (2 oz, with dark chocolate, apples, and granola) – Retail Value $4.95
This is a new brand for me. I thought these were delicious. I should note that I had eaten a bunch of gluten-free, vegan snacks right before these (Vegan Cuts was all gluten-free this month) and that made the butter in these really stand out. They also had a pleasing texture. They were mostly broken but the pieces were generally large enough to eat. I was a fan. They only have one flavor of cookies but they do also make some caramels that look delicious.
Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for Tea Box Express this month since some of the items weren’t sold online in the provided quantities and/or configurations. However, if you add up the cookies, coaster, and estimated value for the sugar, you get around $20, which leaves about $12 for the tea blending kit, which seems reasonable to me. I liked how the floral theme this month touched nearly every item (coaster, sugars, petals for tea blending) and the cookies were very good.
