The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from Appraising Pages, which is now called The Bookish Shop.
Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only – no actual books involved. Recently, though, they have added several subscription varieties to choose from, including ones that does have a book inside.
This review is of the Bookish Goodies & YA Book Box, which is $28.99 a month + shipping.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Listed are all seven goodies included in this month’s box, the young adult and adult book selections for the month, and the t-shirt for the month. The items you receive will depend on which Bookish Box option you choose.
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu - Retail Value $24.99 (found here for $16.37)
Cassandra Clare, a #1 New York Times bestselling author, pairs up with Wesley Chu, to bring us this story - this the first book in the Eldest Curses series. I’ve read the first few chapters and while I feel like the story is finally pulling me in, I can't help but feel like I'm missing importance pieces Magnus and Alec's story. I see the authors attempt to fill in the gaps and I appreciate this. I do think this is a book that I will finish pretty quickly but I'll have to revisit it once I finish the rest of the Shadowhunter Chronicles.
Book Summary from Amazon:
“All Magnus Bane wanted was a vacation—a lavish trip across Europe with Alec Lightwood, the Shadowhunter who against all odds is finally his boyfriend. But as soon as the pair settles in Paris, an old friend arrives with news about a demon-worshiping cult called the Crimson Hand that is bent on causing chaos around the world. A cult that was apparently founded by Magnus himself. Years ago. As a joke.
Now Magnus and Alec must race across Europe to track down the Crimson Hand and its elusive new leader before the cult can cause any more damage. As if it wasn’t bad enough that their romantic getaway has been sidetracked, demons are now dogging their every step, and it is becoming harder to tell friend from foe. As their quest for answers becomes increasingly dire, Magnus and Alec will have to trust each other more than ever—even if it means revealing the secrets they’ve both been keeping.”
Custom Illustrated Dust Jacket by Jana Runneck – Listed Retail Value $12
To compliment Red Scrolls of Magic, this exclusive custom dust jacket was included in this month’s box. I think it captures Alec and Magnus perfectly!
Liz & Darcy and Rhysand and Feyre Enamel Pin Set by Dust and Pages – Listed Retail Value $15.00
This month’s collectible pin is actually dual pins by Dust and Pages! The first pin features the quote “We are all fools in love” for Liz and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. The other pin reads “To the people who look at the stars and wish” for Feyre and Rhysand from Sarah Maas’ A Court of Mist and Fury. I enjoy getting these pins. They are always well-made, great quality pins that go perfectly with the theme of the box. They always spark conversation whenever I wear them.
Cardan and Jade Zippered Pouch by Chick Lit Designs – Listed Retail Value $15.00
This cute and oversized pouch features a quote from The Wicked King by Holly Black for Jude and Cardan. The quote reads “Kiss me until I am sick of it”. It has a zippered enclosure, a plastic outside, and a nylon lining. It can be used for numerous things. I might use it to carry my pool-side gear like sunscreen and shades or maybe to store my coloring pencils.
Inej and Kaz Ankle Socks by The Bookish Shop – Listed Retail Value $6
These Ketterdam ankle socks are super cute. They read “stay in Ketterdam, stay with me” after the intense moment between Inej and Kaz in Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows. My only concern with these socks is that they are really small. Larger feet, like mines, will stretch out the design a bit.
Tamar and Nadia Necklace by The Bookish Shop – Listed Retail Value $12
This Tamar and Nadia necklace, from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, is for a couple that hasn’t happened yet. The pretty white pendant on the black chain necklace reads “She’s Fearless” against a purple banner. This is the line when Nadia looks a Tamar wistfully and says, “she’s fearless”.
Elide and Lorcan Candle by Spidey Scents – Listed Retail Value $8.00
The Bookish Box exclusive 100% soy candle from Spidey Scents has a light but pleasant scent chai tea and vanilla scent. It's called spicy and complicated which is perfect for Elide and Lorcan from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah Maas.
Edward and Bella Illustration Sticker by Diana Dworak – Listed Retail Value $4.00
A sticker that matches the month’s theme is included in each month’s box. This sticker with artwork by Diana Dwork is inspired by Edward and Bella, the Twilight fictional vampire couple that falls in loves and gets married and has a baby.
Special Edition Horoscope Bookmark (4/12) by Gabriella Bujdoso – Listed Retail Value $8.00

To Best the Boys Dust Exclusive Dust Jacket by the Bookish Shop – Retail Value $12.00
There were a few other items included in this month’s box. A Taurus bookmark, not pictured, designed by Gabriella Bujdoso and inspired by Azriel. It’s the fourth bookmark in a series of twelve. I also received this To Best The Boys dust jacket. To Best the Boys was last month’s YA book. This item was not listed on the info card so maybe it was a last-minute swap for the bookmark or an item that was intended for last month’s box? I’m not sure but I like it!
BONUS: Mera: Tidebreaker Special Edition Sampler by Danielle Paige
Finally, a sample of Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige was included in random boxes. It features a chapter for the upcoming YA graphic novel
The Verdict: I liked all the goodies included in this month’s box. I wish the socks were a little larger and the candle a bit more scented. I loved the Cardan & Jude zippered pouch and the Tamar and Nadia Necklace. And, of course, I loved the couple’s theme. Bookish Box always has a good theme!
This Bookish Box costs $36.49 and has a listed retail value of about $105.00. That is more than double the price of the box and a much higher retail value than last month’s box. I think this box is definitely worth the price for an awesome selection of quality bookish goodies and a newly released YA book.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Past boxes are sometimes available in the Bookish Shop. Sign-up now for a chance to get June’s “Far From Home” themed box.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $36.49 after shipping, which means that each of the 6 items in the box has an average cost of $6.09.
