ZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Handwritten note from founder Top

Each month the founder Mr. Strong sends a handwritten note.

Gavin Luxe Kāma Travel Candle, 4 oz – Retail Value $15.00

Kāma Hindu god of love and desire.

This travel-size candle has a woodsy masculine aroma. The candle has an intoxicating blend of fir balsam, smoked spice rose, patchouli, sandalwood, amber, musk, and vanilla. The candles are individually hand-poured in small batches using only the finest quality ingredients and carefully blended fragrances. The candle burns clean and produces a rich, long-lasting bouquet between 10-15 hours.

ZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Kisse Girl -Hair and Body Oil 2 oz Travel Size Top

Kisse Girl Hair and Body Oil, 2 oz Travel Size – Retail Value $5.00

This 3-in-1 oil is intended for my hair, skin, and nails. I generously applied the oil to my soft skin, and the oil was non-greasy and there was a faint scent. I occasionally use body oils and having a product that has multiple usages is productive and can save on time when I’m getting ready for work. The oil is available unscented.

From Kisse Girl:

Promotes:

💋Hair Growth (massage on scalp, or use as a sealant, or use as hot oil treatment)
💋 Makes Hair Shiny & Frizz-Free
💋 Prevents Itchy Scalp and Dandruff
💋Skin Moisturizer (use on hands, legs, and arms instead of lotion to prevent dry skin)
💋Healthy Nails & Nail Growth (massage on cuticles)

2 oz is currently available also unscented!
NO Mineral Oil. NO Parabens. No Petroleum.
Made with Natural Ingredients.

ZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Fresh Eucalyptus Flower Bar Soap Wrapped TopZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Fresh Eucalyptus Flower Bar Soap Top

ZaaBox Fresh Eucalyptus Flower Bar Soap

This moisturizing soap is a ZaaBox exclusive, a surprise to include the brand’s own manufactured product in my box. The bar soap was lathering, sudsy and had a faint scent. The info card indicates an aroma of a lively rainforest freshness. The moisturizing ingredients to get my skin soft included olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and organic shea butter.

ZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Gavin Luxe Sugar Room Body Elixir- 2oz Front

Gavin Luxe Sugar Room Body Elixir, 2oz – Retail Value $18.00

This elixir is a blend of saffron, black currant, and blackberry, with a base of patchouli and amber, as stated on their website, even though those ingredients aren’t listed on the bottle (maybe it’s the fragrance). The aroma has a woodsy scent and it was okay. Not something I wouldn’t use on body, but maybe as a room spray. It intends to be used in the air, on my body, and my linen. Also, it's made in small batches in Long Beach, California.

ZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Phillip Ashley Chocolates FrontZaaBox Women of Color Subscription Review May 2019 - Phillip Ashley Chocolate In Plate Top

Phillip Ashley Chocolates, 2 pieces – Buy a 6-piece signature box for $23

I received a small box with two creamy, sweet chocolates: “classic lime margarita añejo™" and "peach mango margarita añejo™"(strange names for the chocolates). The two creamy “sweet tropics” chocolates have hints of salt and lime. These are the most distinct flavors I picked up, unfortunately, which were not pleasing to my palate. Plus, as I picked up the chocolate, food coloring was all over my fingers and the plate, which was unpleasant. The chocolate is handcrafted in small batches using the finest ingredients with fair trade chocolate. Also, chocolates from this manufacturer are a monthly staple in this subscription box, which is often a nice treat.

The Verdict: As usual this month’s products were geared toward my body except for the candle. I feel pampered each month as well as blushing from the handwritten note from Mr.Strong that’s included monthly. Subscribers can opt out of the note if they like. This subscription is a hit with an assortment of bath and body products, but I would like to see more of a variety of pampering, beauty, and spa-like products that are full-size. I got a total value of $38.00 from the three of the items that had a retail value.

The Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? From ZaaBox:

Once you order you will receive your initial welcome box within 1 week and then your monthly recurring charge will occur on the 1st of the month every month until you decide to cancel.

Value Breakdown: The box cost $34.95 + $5.00 shipping, which means each of the 5 items costs approximately $7.99.

Nice box (except the chocolates) and it’s good that you can opt out of receiving the note.
I like the box concept…just wish they didn’t send chocolates every month. I imagine mine would arrive as a glob considering the heat here in the south.

I’m mildly fascinating by these notes. Does everyone get called a cocoa goddess, or does Mr. Strong do a search of his subscribers to see what they look like? I mean, the box is definitely marketed toward WOC, but the contents seem like they would appeal to women of any ethnicity. Or what if a Pat or a Jamie ordered? That could be a woman or a man ordering for his SO (or even himself perhaps!). What sort of note do they get?

Yes, I am sure I am overthinking it, but these thoughts go through my head every time I read a review for this box.

Decent review. The soap is the most interesting to me. The note is creepy, imo. I definitely would opt out of that. It’s nice they have that option.

I’m with you. That note creeps me out. Like he’s peeking in the window or something.
