This month's BoxyCharm theme is “Au Naturale” and it's perfect because most of the products in this month's box are all from natural ingredients. I have been waiting for the July box to get here so I can’t wait to jump right in.
Our first product is a face mask from a brand called ELEMIS. It's their Superfood Vital Veggie Mask. This mask has so many good things to offer, I don’t know where to begin. It is supposed to nourish, hydrate and brighten your skin all in one.
The brand describes this as giving your skin a shot of their green goodness treatment. That includes a mask that will smooth your skin as well as soften it. The mask is a pale green color and has a nice and thick paste to apply to your face while nourishing it as well.
I’m not that familiar with ELEMIS products but I do know that they are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free which is always a plus in my book. This Superfood Vital Veggie Mask has vital vitamins and minerals that our skin so desperately needs to replenish. On top of all this goodness, this veggie mask also has avocado, chia seed oil and also broccoli seed oil as well. All of these are naturally rich in omega fatty acids. This has to be the very first time I have seen anything broccoli in a skin product. If you're wondering what all this stuff can do to help benefit your skin, it aids in locking in moisture which keeps your skin healthy in the long run.
The instructions say to add this to a clean and dry face, and allow it to set for ten minutes. It's not as thick as I thought and feels really cool on my skin. I used a warm wet washcloth to remove the product off my face. They say to remove this with a dark washcloth because the ingredients may stain. Just be aware of this when you're reaching for one of your favorite towels. (We all have them lol) I noticed that it didn't tighten or tingle like the brand suggests. I love the way my skin feels after removing the product, and how it left me with a very soft complexion. It definitely has a spa-like smell, that's for sure. I did however notice a pleasant moisturizing feeling to my skin afterwards. The brand says that I should experience a brighter looking complexion and I guess I'll have to wait and see if this occurs after several uses, but as of now I can't say for sure.
Here is a close shot of my skin after removing the mask. All in all this Superfood Veggie Mask was pleasant to use and so far I have no complaints, which is a positive thing. I never really cared about the ingredients when it came to my products, however as I got older I really started to pay more attention to what I was putting on my skin. My skin desperately needed this pick me up, this Texas heat can wreak havoc on your skin. A mask like this has tons of positive claims to help now and later on down the line.
All I can say is "yaaaaa" to our next product! I’m always happy to add to my Luxie brush collection, and thanks to BoxyCharm it's really growing! This brush set is from Luxie and it's their GAEA 3 piece brush set. This particular brush set is made from recycled natural wood, however they still have that classic pink color that Luxie brushes have, and the white synthetic brush hairs only add to their charm. I will of course be using these brushes to create my eye look so let's move on to our next product.
I was pretty excited when I saw we are getting the butter LONDON Natural Goddess Eyeshadow Palette because these colors are simply amazing. I can't say that I have too many butter LONDON makeup items but from what I have read they are a pretty good makeup line, nothing but positive reviews. Although there are only six shades in this palette, they are some of the most gorgeous six shades that they could ever put together. They chose the perfect name for this product because these colors marry so well together. However there are only two matte shades and the rest are shimmer so I may have to borrow a black from another palette. The shades are so pigmented and soft, and I can't wait to see if they blend as well as they look.
Before we begin, I’m going to add an eyeshadow primer so that we can get the best of these shadows. I started by using the Luxie 250 large eye blending brush. I used with the shade Temptress, because it's the only dark matte shade in the palette and just about any of these other colors will come alive against it. I added this color to my lid and slightly above my crease.
Then using my finger, I added the shade Femme Fatale right into the middle of my eye. I’m using this shade as a buildup color, so when I add the color Star directly on top of it, hopefully it will stand out. These colors are a bit similar in shade, only one is matte and the other is a shimmer.
Here is how both colors look one on top of each other. Nothing too bold, just an everyday average makeup look.
Next, I used a matte black from another palette and added this to the outer corners of my eyes. I love adding a dark color to my outer corners because it really brings the colors together.
Using the Luxie 246 Precision Crease brush, I then took the shade Queen (my name fits so well here lol) directly under my brows and on top of the other shades.
To finalize this dusty brown & teal eye look I added some black eyeliner and smudged it out for a subtle smokey look. I also added two coats of black mascara. Although this is a very simple eye look to achieve, I’m sure that whatever colors you guys play with will come out beautiful because these shades are pretty easy to work with. They blend effortlessly and would stand out on any skin tone.
Our next product is from a brand that we are also familiar with, the Appeal Gel Liners. I received the color Deep Taupe and it's a dark and smokey brown shade. I’m glad that it's a gel liner and not another wooden pencil that is usually too dry to use. I didn't know whether I wanted to use this as an eyeliner or lip liner. I decided to go another route altogether and use it to contour my nose. Although I hate to admit it, I recently gained a few unwanted pounds. Since I always gain weight in my face before anywhere else, (thanks, Mother Nature) I needed some contouring badly. This product is so rich and creamy, I think that it just might do the trick.
I wanted to make my nose appear a bit more narrow than it is, so I took this gel liner and made my contour lines.
Here is how the lines look. One on each side of my nose and then a small line across the middle.
I then took a small dense brush and blended out the lines so that they are nearly visible to the naked eye. I took a side profile picture so you can see the finished look.
After contouring my nose, I added foundation, filled in my brows and added a couple coats of black mascara.
I used the Luxie 510 Foundation brush and the color Enchantress from the eyeshadow palette as my highlighter. I added a light layer to my cheekbones, and the tip of my nose. I loved how each and every one of these brushes worked as well as I knew they would. Once you get used to a brand like Luxie, you know the product is going to work well.
Here is a picture of how that shade looks when used as a highlighter. I think it came out very light and pretty on the skin. Let’s move on to our last and final product in this month's box.
Finally, we have another product from the brand Alamar Cosmetics, and it's from their Mother of Pearl collection. I received the shade Tesoro. These lip glosses are made to give you an iridescent effect. It's a very sheer color that can be worn as a topper or alone.
Since my makeup look is very ordinary, I decided to wear it alone for a nice bare and sheer look. It's not too thick on the lips and the rich seabuckthorn extract and camellia oil make it very comfortable to wear. This shade can be worn with just about any makeup look from the very bold, to an everyday look like this one.
I don't want to forget the $10 coupon we also received for a Flash Facial at the Skin Bar. You can visit your local Ulta Beauty for $10 off of either an Insta-Glow Facial or an Insta-Firm Facial depending on your skincare needs. Not all Ulta Beauty locations have this Skin Bar so you should definitely call ahead. This is something extra that BoxyCharm has thrown in this month, to help remind those of us who forget that we need to also take care of our skin. I know I plan on taking advantage of this and hopefully you will too.
Verdict: This month's box was pretty interesting, however I really enjoyed the face mask the most. I can also see myself really experimenting with the eyeshadow palette to come up with other fun looks. I hope you guys enjoyed this month's BoxyCharm as well.
