Fabletics is a monthly fitness apparel subscription co-founded by Kate Hudson. You can shop Fabletics in two ways—you can shop the regular store, or you can sign up for their VIP membership. VIP memberships work like this:

  • Take the Fabletics quiz, which will let the company know your size, style, and fitness needs.
  • Each month, Fabletics will curate looks that match your preferences. According to the website, outfits start at $19.00 for new members. (I'm not sure if "new members" refers to just your first order, though.)
  • Shop those looks at 40-50% off what you'd get just paying retail, or skip the month. You have to make your decision by the 5th of the month. If do neither, the $49.95 monthly membership fee will be saved to your account as a credit, which you can put towards other outfits later.
  • As you shop, you'll also earn points that can be applied to accessories and other cool fitness essentials.

Long story short, this subscription won't automatically send you monthly packages like other services do. (But they will automatically charge you if you take no action.) You have to hop into your account and either decide to add items to your card or skip it. Subscriptions can be canceled at any time, though you do have to call into Fabletics customer service to do it.

The Subscription Box: Fabletics VIP Membership

The Cost: $49.95 a month. This price goes towards the cost of the outfits curated for you. The cost of outfits varies, but you'll only be charged for what you choose to actually buy. If you want, you can choose to skip the month, and you won't be charged. If you don't spend your $49.95 nor choose to skip, Fabletics will charge you the $49.95 and just save it as store credit for you to use later.

The Products: High-quality, on-trend athletic clothing curated to fit your size, style, and needs. Think leggings, tops, shorts, and outerwear for yoga, running, and all kinds of other workouts. Fabletics is targeted towards women, primarily, but they do offer workout clothes for men, too!

Fabletics Shorts & Workout Top Review

It's common for me to get Hello Fresh coupons in my Fabletics orders, so it wasn't surprising that one showed up this month. (Read our reviews to learn more and get a discount off your first Hello Fresh box when you use this link!)

Hyper 2-Piece Outfit, Size Medium Top, Size Large Bottoms - Retail Value $89.90, VIP Price $49.95

Here's the look I picked this month. Keep in mind you don't have to buy an outfit each month—you can also purchase items on an individual, a la carte basis. I just tend to find that I get the best value when I get full outfits.

This month's look is made up of two pieces. The first is the Christine Seamless Openwork Tank, which is made from Fabletics' sturdy, 4-way-stretch "Seamless" fabric. It's a rather simple top, and there's no built-in support, so I'd have to pair it with a bra of some sort. But the light, wicking fabric should be great for sweaty workouts. The mesh-like holes running up each side of the top lend a little extra airflow, too.

I'm not a big shorts fan, but as usually happens, the humid summer weather is pushing me to break out of my leggings-only routine. I liked the idea of these Olesia shorts because they have a close-fitting, stretch-fabric layer as well as a swishy overlay. It was just kind of a neat design choice. Plus, I like the look of swishy running shorts but hate when they ride up as I jog or move. After trying them on, I can honestly say I'd take or leave the swishy layer—it wound up looking a little bunchy, as my hips easily filled out these shorts. But I really liked how the fitted under-layer of these shorts fit my body. The length was perfect, and the shorts stayed in place without pinching my thighs around each hemline. The wide waistband is a huge plus, too. I went for this pinkish Dalmatian print this go 'round (the stretch layer has a white background, but the top layer has a gray background if you can't tell from the photo), but now I really want this same style in black to match my roller derby team's colors!

The Verdict: Fabletics is one clothing subscription that always seems to deliver on value. This set was a less expensive option, as their outfits go, but I still ended up paying less than I would at a place like Lululemon or Athleta for pieces that felt similar in quality. The fit is pretty great, and I can attest to Fabletics pieces wearing and washing beautifully. There are pieces I've worn and washed on an almost weekly basis that still look and fit as well as they did when I first got them!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, though the shorts are sold out in this (large) size and several others. Check it out here.

Value Breakdown: This outfit cost $89.90 at retail, but the VIP price was just $49.95. That's a savings of $39.95, or about 44%!
