Fair Trade Friday is an organization that helps to empower women and battle poverty through dignified, sustainable industry (craftsmanship). They have three subscriptions to choose from that send fairly-traded items from around the world: The Original Box, Bracelet of the Month, and Earring of the Month. I have subscribed to the Earring of the Month box for years now, and I am really excited to be reviewing the Original Box now!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Accessory Bag by Freeset, India - Listed Value $16

As I'm sure many of you do, I have mixed feelings about receiving this type of bag in subscription boxes. I think it can be a little disappointing since it is such a common item. On the other hand, I do use a lot of them, and they make great bags for gifts (both as the gift and to contain the gift). They are also highly in need for women's charities as they are a great way to hold things like hygiene kits for the homeless. In any case, this little bag is special because it was handmade in India and fairly traded via Freeset, an organization that helps provide training and employment in impoverished areas of India. I have to also say that it is cute for a cotton canvas bag, and roomy enough to hold a travel kit.

Fair Trade Friday June 2019 - Hair Ties by Mercy House Global

Fair Trade Friday June 2019 - Hair Ties by Mercy House Global 2

Hair Ties by Mercy House Global, Houston - Listed Value $5

These are really pretty hair ties! Unfortunately, I can't use this type of hair tie because I have too much hair - they just won't hold it securely. But I like the idea a lot, and the colors, of course. These ties were made by the refugee community in Houston, TX. Mercy House Global has partnered with them to help provide some stop-gap employment while they transition to life in the United States.

Wave Ring by Hope House, Azerbaijan - Listed Value $15

What a cute little ring! I like it! This is an awesome accessory for summer. I also really appreciate that it is adjustable because most rings I get in subscription boxes are too small. It was made by the women of Hope House in Azerbaijan, an organization that provides community, counseling, education, and employment to women in that area.

Fair Trade Friday June 2019 - Beach Towel by Noah's Ark 3

Beach Towel by Noah's Ark, India - Listed Value $20

Whenever I find a towel that is large, thin, and absorbent, I am thrilled, and this towel fits the bill! This beach towel was handmade in India with 100% cotton. I love the color! I really love it when a beach towel can double as a sarong poolside. This towel was hand-woven by an artisan from Noah's Ark, an organization that provides fair trade commerce for artisans in India.

The Verdict: I love my subscription to Fair Trade Friday Original Box! I will probably gift the hair ties, but otherwise I will use everything in the package this month. I especially love the ring and towel! I also like all the information they provide to show how your subscription directly impacts the lives of others. It makes the subscription seem that much more special.

I was very close to get this box and I’m glad I didn’t. I don’t like getting hair products :O .
