KitNipBox July 2019 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a safari theme:
The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.
All for Paws Catnip Elephant – Listed Value $5
This was Monkey’s very favorite thing from the box. He rubbed his face on it and licked it and rolled on it. You can see some of that below. Angus had a good time with it as well. It is a little crinkly and doesn’t have stuffing (just whatever makes the crinkles) and I guess the catnip is good.
All for Paws Giraffe – Listed Value $5
This little guy was Madison’s buddy. He was particularly interested in the fluff of the tail and mane. This one is small and lightweight and does have some plush stuffing in addition to catnip.
Max Rattling Safari Hat – Listed Value $6
This is more of a faux leather texture. My cats are fans of toys with different textures. The middle part has a rattle ball in it, which was interesting for Monkey and Angus (they both like noisy toys). This was relatively rigid and held its shape.
Playful Pet Safari Map – Listed Value $4
This is a kicker-style toy although it is far from the biggest kicker I’ve ever seen. It’s also a bit crinkly inside, though it has some stuffing as well. Monkey and Angus like to wrestle with toys like this, although I didn’t manage to catch it on camera this time around.
Safemade Explorer’s Full Catnip Vest – Listed Value $5
This was Monkey’s second-favorite toy for the month. He did the same thing to it as he did to the elephant (and to be fair, the only real difference from the elephant is that the elephant has a tail.)
Leap Safari Wand – Listed Value $7
This was Angus’s favorite toy, and Sneaky’s as well. (They don’t like each other but they do like the same toys.) And Madison didn’t run away to hide under the bed when I got this out (he’s skittish) which I guess is a good thing?
Pet Winery Mëow & Chandon Rosé – Listed Value $5 (Buy 12 fl oz for $14.95)
Instead of treats, we received cat wine. This is catnip water with a bit of fish oil and food coloring, basically. All four of my cats are willing to sniff this, but they don’t really drink it. I have tried in the past to pour it out in a bowl and Monkey just plays with it and makes a mess.
Gratuitous cat photos:
Angus is back to hanging out under and around the dining room table. Here he sniffs the wine.
Angus enjoys the wand.
He also likes the elephant. He’s licking it in one of these pictures!
Madison with some of the box items. He wasn’t playful today but he did want to rub his face on the giraffe.
Monkey sniffs the wine.
Monkey rubs his face on the elephant and then rolls over on it.
Sneaky says “wait a minute, this isn’t food.”
Sneaky with the wand. She wouldn’t even let Madison have a chance to express interest. I’d drag it across the floor and she would be right there with it. I got her to jump a couple of feet into the air chasing it, too, which is something she hasn’t done in years.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $37 for the July KitNipBox, which is above the cost of the box by a few dollars. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like Kitnipbox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. The different textures were definitely appreciated this month and even though the vest and elephant were quite similar, they happened to be the most popular, so that’s OK. The wand was also appreciated, for sure. Sneaky and Angus were quite violent with it and no feathers came out, either.
