Meowbox June 2019 Review
Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:
The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a Paris theme.
Cheese and Wine Catnip Toys – Retail Value $8
These are smaller catnip toys with different textures. The wine is more of a flat, felt toy, and the cheese must have a little stuffing in addition to catnip. My cats tend to prefer the smaller, lighter weight toys like these, and they are also interested in different textures, so this was a good fit for us. Plus, it’s like two toys in one since you typically get five items in the box and this only counts as one of the five.
Purrfect Parisian Kitty Beret – Retail Value $5
This doesn’t work so well as a hat (see a few attempts in the photos below) but it also works as a toy and has yet a different texture from either of the above. It also worked as a treat-hiding device. Most of my cats can’t figure out treat dispensing toys (Madison is an exception) but they were able to find treats hidden in here.
French Purrfume – Retail Value $6
I think this was the clear winner of the box. Both Sneaky and Angus thought it was great. (They don’t like each other very much but they love all the same toys…) Anyway, you can see some photos of it in action below.
Crochet Kitty Eiffel Tower Kicker – Retail Value $8
This is a little pricier than some of the other single toys but that’s because it’s handmade in the US. It is very well made (no holes or loose threads) and super soft and works for both cuddling and wrestling.
Catit Nibbly Cat Treats in Chicken Flavor (3.2 oz) – Retail Value $3.99
These are crunchy treats in a resealable package to maintain freshness. They are free of wheat, corn, and soy. Madison, Monkey, and Sneaky can all have them, and all three cats loved them. (Monkey doesn’t usually like treats but he did want these.)
Kitty photo time!
Angus liked the perfume toy. His pictures are a little blurry though, because they’re action shots!
Madison was a fan of the treats.
He was also interested in sniffing and rubbing his face on the toys.
Monkey did not really want to wear the beret.
He also wanted to rub his face on toys.
And he ate a treat!
I love her facial expressions in this series of photos. Sometimes her eyes are closed and she looks like a sweet, friendly cat.
Sneaky liked the treats.
In fact, she loved them. She stuck her head in the bag, panicked, and pulled it out again, flipping the bag and spilling a lot…
But she and Madison were perfectly willing to clean up the mess she made. (I didn’t let them eat all of those. She spilled like half the bag.)
Verdict: I calculated a total value of $30.99 for the June Meowbox. That’s pretty good, at about $8 over the cost of the subscription plus shipping. The treats were well liked by all cats who can have them, the perfume toy was a huge hit, and I (and my cats) liked the variety of toy textures, shapes, and sizes this month.
