Paletteful Packs July 2019 Review
This month's theme features watercolor pens and I couldn’t be more excited! Paletteful Packs Premier includes enough pens and paper for 60 watercolor creations!
Each month you receive a content list with detailed descriptions, retail values, and helpful tips to get the most out of your box. I love how helpful this little list is!
The back of the included card features the July 2019 Prompt and Challenge. This month is Metropolitan, Office, Future, and Shy. You can share and hashtag your prompt on social media with #palettefulprompt and #palettefulpacks. It’s really fun to see what everyone else comes up with!
Sakura Koi Water Brush - Round #8 Large 9mL- Listed Value $7.49 (found here for $7.69)
Check out this water brush! It is perfect for easy transportation and storage, and is so easy to use! All you do is remove the black cap, fill with water, screw on the brush tip, and squeeze! It is comfortable to use and glides beautifully! I’ve never used a water brush before, but this one worked great for blending and shading.
Graphix Aqua Pens - Metropolitan 6 Piece Set - Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $14.13)
I am loving the colors of these aqua pens! This 6 pack features brilliant colored watercolor pens that have a brush and contour tip. They are easy to hold, easy to use, and are extremely fun!
Graphix Aqua Pens - Mega Mash 12 Piece Set - Retail Value $29.98 (found here for $19.99)
These pens are exactly the same as the 6 pack, except with more colors! This mega mash set has every color you need to create brilliant artwork! I am in love with these pens!
Sakura MicroPerm .35mm Pen - Retail Value $2.79 (found here for $6.88)
I love a fine tip pen, and this one is ultra-fine! I love how this pen can write on just about anything, is quick drying, and waterproof. While I used it for my watercolor pictures, I also tried it out on the bottom of my sons' Hot Wheels cars (writing their names so they don’t fight over them) and it worked amazingly!
Bee Paper 6”x 6” 93lb. Super Deluxe Mixed Media Pad - Retail Value: $11.75 (found here for $10.79)
This professional series paper pad is beautiful! The burgundy cover is very thick and will protect the pad from damage. It has 60 sheets of 93lb. 6”x 6” paper, which can easily be torn out, or kept in the pad. While it holds watercolor well, I did notice some of my ink started to bleed through.
Here are all of the included items swatched on the included paper. I am loving the control I have with these markers, and how the water pen works! I can’t wait to create something with these babies!
Project # 1: Pikachu
My son is obsessed with Pokemon and is begging for a Pikachu-themed birthday party (his birthday is in December), so I found it only fitting to try and watercolor him a Pikachu. Here I did a rough sketch with pencil on the included paper pad.
After the sketch was complete, I decided to start with yellow and just play around.
It starts looking a little more exciting with the bright red!
And here is my version of Pikachu. My son was pretty excited and asked if we could make copies and use this for his invitations!
Project #2: Peacock
The next project I attempted was a peacock. Here I did a rough sketch of how I wanted my bird to look.
And here it is completed. I was fairly happy with how it turned out. I am by no means an artist, but I had a lot of fun!
The Verdict: Every month I look forward to Paletteful Packs, and this month was no exception. Because of this pack, I have discovered a love of watercoloring, and this month brought me more and different supplies for my newly found passion! I love that this box is for such an array of skills and ages, because it is something my children and I can enjoy together. Although I liked the paper pad, I wish they would have sent thicker paper for this project, but other than that I am completely satisfied! I feel they did a great job curating this box and they really do give you the supplies to create projects from start to finish.
This subscription costs $35.95 a month. The content card shows a retail value of $67.01 in this box. I found everything online for around $59.48, which is a few dollars less than the retail value but just shy of double the subscription cost! I do want to mention that if you were to purchase everything individually you would probably spend more than this in shipping costs, and it is curated so well that I feel it is a great deal and definitely worth it!
