Sephora Favorites Bite the Bullet Lip Kit Review

Sephora is always releasing new Favorites Kits and one of the latest is their Bite the Bullet Lip Kit featuring five lipsticks in fall "must-have" colors from some of the most popular brands. It has two full-size lipsticks (from tarte and Urban Decay) as well as three deluxe samples (from Anatasia Beverly Hills, Laura Mercier, and Bite Beauty).

FYI – this Sephora Kit is still available for purchase here!

Sephora Favorites: Bite the Bullet Lip Kit Review

The kit comes in a resealable bag that contains all five lipsticks and has the info for each listed on the back.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Dead Roses, 0.045 oz. Deluxe Sample - Estimated Retail Value $6.69 (Buy the full size for $18.00)

The first lipstick is from Anastasia Beverly Hills and is a small but mighty deluxe sample. I love the name of this and the deep mauve color (my fave) but I will say that it's a bit on the heavy side once on your lips compared to the others. You'll have that with some matte lipsticks, so some balm beforehand is a good idea to allow this to glide a bit easier. It's still creamy but requires more pressure when pressing your lips together to blot. The good news is that this has staying power and isn't going anywhere.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai, 0.05 oz. Deluxe Sample - Estimated Retail Value $8.67 (Buy the full size for $26.00)

Next up is the Bite deluxe sample in "chai." Bite is one of my favorite lipstick brands because their formula is soooo creamy and they have such a wonderful array of mauves and nudes that I love. They also smell like candy which is super fun to me. Sadly, this might be my least favorite color from the kit. It's a little too red of a neutral/mauve for my personal taste when it's on and even though I adore a bold red- this one is just a bit muddy for my liking. It's also REALLY similar to the first color (which I prefer). Shout out to their packaging tho- I think this tube is so cute and silky smooth.

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick, 0.04 oz. Deluxe Sample - Estimated Retail Value $10.67 (Buy the full size for $32.00)

I've been really getting back into bright reds the last couple weeks so this cool tone is a welcome surprise among the rest of the darker mauves. I think this might be my favorite of the kit since it's also super creamy and light. The only downside is that I noticed it has the potential to bleed a little, so a liner is in order for this one to achieve the perfect pout.

tarte Quench Lip Rescue Balm Rainforest Of The Sea Collection in Berry, 0.1 oz. Full-Size - Retail Value $19.00

This tarte balm is one of the two full-size products in the kit and I'm a huge fan. The color is sheer even though it looks dark in the tube but it's ultra-hydrating which really makes my lips feel great. I love balms and a little bit of color elevates this one for the perfect minimal makeup go-to, plus it has a minty tingle to it to slightly plump. I find the berry to be super flattering and a nice subtle fall color.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Backtalk, 0.11 oz. Full-Size - Retail Value $19.00

The final item from the kit is this full-size Urban Decay color in a pretty light mauve. A color like this is my go-to and I swear I have several versions at home already. They're all slightly different, though, aren't they? So like, I definitely need more. 😉 I think this might be my first ever UD lipstick and I'm very happy with it since it's a great example of a moisturizing matte. Not too light, not too heavy, and the pigment is fierce. Loving this one!

All 5 lipsticks swatched on Marne's hand

Here are swatched on my hand. From top to bottom: Anastasia Beverly Hills, Bite Beauty, Laura Mercier, tarte, and Urban Decay.

The Verdict: The Sephora Bite the Bullet Lip Kit (also my first Sephora Favorites Kit) was really satisfying and I loved getting five lipsticks for a really low price. These colors are right up my alley even if they weren't all perfect. Small lipsticks are just as fulfilling to me as full size since I cannot remember the last time I finished a whole tube since I have SO MANY (hi- lipstick addict, here). Part of me wishes they had included a liquid lipstick, but the brands they offered are all amazing, so I can't complain. I estimate that this kit is worth a retail of $64.03 which is more than double the $30.95 cost.

To Wrap Up :

Can you get this box if you order today? Yes, this kit is still available!

Value Breakdown: At $30.95 ($25 + $5.95 shipping) for this kit, here's what you're paying per item:

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills: $3.23
  • Bite Beauty: $4.19
  • Laura Mercier: $5.16
  • tarte: $9.18
  • Urban Decay: $9.18

I ordered this off the Sephora site because there were goodies I wanted to get.

The Anastasia lip color and the Urban Decay lip colors are basically the same, my lips but deader, and the Anastasia is more brown.

The Tarte lip balm is nice and while it’s dark in the tube, it goes on very sheer and shiny. And minty.

The Bite and Laura Mercier I already have, but hey, can’t have too many red lipsticks, IMO.

the price is good for what you get, I just wish they’d quit pushing nudes.

Thanks for the review! I was considering this kit, but looking at the pictures, the only color that really appeals to me is the Bite Beauty in Chai, so I think I’ll just pick up a full size of that instead.

Thanks so much for the review! I have been eyeing this kit and it is so helpful to see them on actual lips! I might not be able to pull off the red, but the rest look right up my alley. I have gotten the Bite Beauty in that color before and I like it. I think it looks great on you also!

I think this red would look great on almost anyone! I’ve found that personally, bright lipsticks looked shocking to me at first but once I got more comfortable in them and got a few compliments, I felt more equipped to rock them.

I totally agree. The red would be the hardest for me to wear also, and I definitely thought the Bite looked better than the Anastasia. I think the Anastasia looks very dry. Thanks Marne for showing us how they really look, I was most surprised by the Tarte which looks pretty dark in the tube.

Thank you so much for modeling the colors. It really helps to see the product on the lips, not just the hand swatch. I love both the Tarte and the UD shades. I just placed a Sephora order yesterday to get that Flowerbomb gwp. I regret not adding this set. I will have to make a trip to the store. All the shades look very nice on you. Even the Bite looks beautiful.

Thanks for the feedback on swatches, Dawn and Beth! We do our best to model them if the box is lipstick-heavy but we don’t always have the time to do one-off lip photos. I’m glad to hear that these were helpful!

Agree – hand and arm swatches are better than nothing, but its super useful to see the colors modeled!
