Teabox May 2019 Review

No booklet this month, but there was a sheet with more info regarding tea nutritional info and expiration date.

Last month, all of our teas came in generous bags. It looks like this month there is a mix of bags and pretty glass tubes.

Mountain Rose Black Tea - Buy 3.5 oz for $21.99

I received this tea back in March, and I loved it then too! This is a rose lover's tea and it is filled with petals that lend the tea a beautiful aroma. The visuals of the petals "blooming" again also add some magic! I enjoyed this one with some honey, though cream or sugar would also give this smooth tea a little extra creaminess.

Kashmiri Kahwah - Buy 3.5 oz for $10.99

I would classify this as a green chai, which is pretty interesting! It has all those classic chai flavors: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, with the addition of saffron and almonds. These earthy notes are somehow much lighter in a green tea and as someone who dislikes chai, I did find it much more drinkable with a green base.

Punjabi Masala Chai - Buy 3.5 oz for $5.99

More chai! I passed this one off to Will to try, since he loves chai. He was amazed at how tiny the tea leaves (particles?) were and said that this had a much stronger spice flavor than he was used to. He did like it, though he highly suggests adding some cream and sugar.

Calming Chamomile Green Tea - Buy 3.5 oz for $7.99

This is another repeat from March, but I am super happy with that. I love this very 'minerally' green tea and its floral twist with the addition of chamomile and marigold petals. I tend to prefer it sans cream or sugar because I don't wish to hide or mask those petal soft notes. Brew this one sans tea bag so you can enjoy those orange flowers!

Hibiscus Lemongrass Tisane - Buy 18 tea bags for $14.99

This pink tea is filled with citrusy and fruity notes, but don't let that fool you. It has a complex backbone of licorice and fennel that makes it so much more interesting than your typical hibiscus tea. I enjoyed it both iced and hot, and found that a lemon slice enhances those citrus flavors beautifully.

Fruit Strudel Black - Buy 1.8 oz for $7.99

This tea was a little sticky straight out of the bag, likely due to the chunks of dried fruits! It has more fruit than any other tea I have ever tried: apples, cherries, pineapple, pomegranate, and blueberries. It might have been a little TOO fruity for me, except that the flavors were so natural and worked really well with the black tea. I added some honey and this felt like a little bit of a dessert!

Goomtee Special Summer Chinary Black - Buy 3.5 oz for $18.99

Finally, our last tea is a Darjeeling variety with the most delightful woody notes. I love teas like this because they feel very comforting. This one is unique because it has something fruity, right on the edge of the scent and taste that gives it a little brightness. I think this one is best left sans sugars or creams, because the notes are so delicate.

Verdict: Aside from the two chais, I really loved everything in my Teabox! I was happy to see two old friends because I really enjoyed them last time. A good tea is something I never complain about, even if it is a repeat!  I felt the mix of tubes and bags was more than a little confusing, especially for a subscription that usually seems super put together. I actually can't decide if I prefer the tubes or the bags! The variety this month was really great and the sheer amount of tea sent makes up for this subscription's higher price. If you love tea and drink a lot of it per month (guilty!) this is a great subscription to try!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but it looks like July's box is shipping. Be sure to check the subscription page for the current theme.

Value Breakdown: At $39.99 per month, you’re paying around $0.87 per cup of tea depending on how much you brew at a time. I estimated this total for a total of 46 cups using 0.11 oz per brew!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Wow! I do love tea but I would need to drink a lot more to justify this Subscription box, but I am definitely putting this on my list of things to consider for gift ideas for my tea loving friends as well as for myself if I ever drink more tea. In the meantime, what a lovely review and photos! I will be coming back each month excited to see what you get next!

If you look close, there is a glass strainer that fits inside the cup she is using..I love those kind of cups for tea, they are so convenient and you can actually see the tea steep.

Ah, thank you! I was reading on my phone and couldn’t see that much detail. That’s really cool!

I guess I’m a tea dummy…how do you drink it when you brew it without a bag or strainer? I wouldn’t know what to do with all that stuff in my cup, even though it looks pretty!

I should have called that out! I can see how it would be hard to notice the strainer part if you didn’t know it was there. I highly recommend cups like this! They make the tea itself like art.

I think the new packaging has definitely upped this subs game. I love these new vials! They are way more practical than disposable plastic and can be reused later…Not to mention how beautiful they would look in my kitchen…
