Unboxing The Bizarre Chic Boutique June 2019 Review
Upon opening this box, the first thing I was hit with was the smell of the cat bag. I laughed out loud when I pulled this little guy out of the package! After a fun May box, I was excited to see what else June had to offer. The included insert card features a bit of information about the holidays that are being featured in the current month and a few suggested ways to celebrate.
The jewelry is all individually bagged inside of this little pouch.
Tiered Coin Necklace – Listed Value $9.99 (a similar item can be found here for $24.00)
In honor of: Flip a Coin Day (June 1st)
So, admittedly I have never heard of this holiday until receiving this box and I was very surprised to see that this tradition dates back to Julius Caesar! Although this is clearly costume jewelry and not made of fine metals, I did feel that the quality was pretty good. I think this piece would be beautiful with a white blouse – it’s yellow gold, and beautifully tiered. The coin style itself is on trend this season, with similar items found at retailers like Nordstrom and Urban Outfitters. My only complaint is that I got it tangled several times during this review process. I’d definitely recommend hanging it up between wears to save yourself the untangling!
Cat Crossbody Bag – Retail Value $21.98
In honor of: National Hug Your Cat Day (June 4th)
I am openly a dog person, but that doesn’t mean that don’t like cats. However, it does mean that I’m unlikely to wear a cat crossbody bag – especially one that has a very heavy plastic scent. I was able to find this bag on Amazon, where it describes itself as being made of high-quality durable PU leather. There are no markings on the bag itself, so I can't be sure that it is plastic versus leather, I can only speak to the distinct scent that this bag carries. The bag itself measures around 10"h x 6"w x 3"d and is large enough to hold (what I consider to be) the necessities – sunglasses, keys, phone, money, and lipstick. The strap is a gold-colored chain with the black strap threaded through. Although this isn't my style, and I don't really have a cat to hug (do they even like that?!) I think I am going to squirrel this one away for Halloween. Since it's black with neon yellow eyes I think it's a perfect accessory for that time of year!
Rose and Bow Stud Earrings – Listed Value $9.99
In honor of: National Red Rose Day (June 12th)
I was surprised to learn that National Red Rose Day is in June, I would have thought that it was in February, as I often associate Valentine's Day with red roses! I love flowers, and bows, and thought that these studs were adorable. However, mine arrived without earring backs. It's an easy fix, as they're standard sized posts and worked with other backs that I had on hand, but I thought that the miss was worth noting. They measure about ½" x ½" and are in a yellow gold colored setting, with a small white enamel bow and tiny metal red rose. Really sweet! I might actually use them as thumbtacks on my office bulletin board to dress it up a bit!
Sea Turtle Anklet – Retail Value $14.99 (Listed Value 8.99)
In honor of: International Surfing Day (June 15th)
I have never been surfing, but I do enjoy the ocean and sunning myself! I also have recently started wearing anklets again, and am working on my collection. I was glad to add this little beaded bracelet which features a tiny silver sea turtle. Given that it's summer, this was my favorite piece of the month and although I probably won't surf anytime soon (I live in Pittsburgh) I certainly support those who do. Cowabunga, Dude!
The Verdict: I continue to love the surprise and variety that this box brings. This month I received 4 items – 1 of them I loved, and the other 3 had what I considered to be a flaw (the necklace tangles really easily, the purse smells of plastic and chemicals, and the earrings did not have backings). This is not normal for this box though, and I maintain that the curation and quality of items are typically pretty good. And I loved the sea turtle anklet!
Using the listed values, I calculate $50.96 worth of product. This box costs $30 ($25 for the box + $5 shipping) and I feel like the products do in fact exceed the price paid for the subscription.
