Bespoke Post "Frontier" Review
Before I begin, let me point out that this isn't one of the new boxes for August like I thought it was. Based on my preferences, Bespoke Post suggested this one to me and I was so excited about it that I chose it without realizing that it had been reviewed by Liz way back in 2013 (can you BELIEVE?)! They've updated some of the brands, but it's still a phenomenal box in my opinion. I'll be more diligent in the future to show you all the newest stuff available, but it is kind of comforting that they still offer this box based on popularity!
Also, feel free to listen to the Peter Gabriel song "Games Without Frontiers" while reading this, because it's stuck in my head.
Bespoke Post comes with a nice info card with a photo on the front and all the info you need about the items on the back. They also included a card advertising the potential to win a box when you post a photo on social media.
Opinel No. 8 Pocket Knife - Retail Value $17.00
Gosh, I love this knife. It's so classic, simple, and useful. I must admit, I already own the No. 6 knife in the same natural color which one of my best friends bought me years ago. Now, I have the slightly larger No. 8 to add to my collection. The blade on this folding knife is 3.25 inches and the wooden portion of the handle is just a bit larger at 3.5 inches. It fits nicely into my hand and even has a locking collar on it that engages simply by rotating it when open or closed. I've used my smaller version for many different things from cutting up an apple in the park to opening packages. I keep it with me in my bag so I'm never without a sharp object when in need. This larger one is a bit sturdier and will make a great addition to my camping gear. The quality and craftsmanship speaks to its unchanged design from 1890 by this classic French brand.
Kaweco Classic Sport Fountain Pen - Retail Value $28.50
Next up, we have my other favorite item of this box. I am a certified pen nerd and can tell you that German brand Kaweco doesn't mess around. They've been making pens since 1883, just like it says on the pen itself and are widely found at the nicest pen and stationery stores around. This is their sport fountain pen which comes in a compact state that you can unscrew to open and place the cap on the end to fully extend. It has a cute chubby body with "Kaweco Sport" embossed with metallic gold on the side. I believe this one is the medium nib which is a little bold for me but writes like a dream. The gold tip allows the ink from the inserted cartridge to flow smoothly and easily while writing. Just a gorgeous specimen of quality writing utensil!
Kaweco Ink Cartridges in Royal Blue, 6 ct - Retail Value $2.20
To accompany the fountain pen, they've included a 6-pack of royal blue ink cartridges which will last quite some time. I love the vintage look of the box, and these are super easy to load into the pen body. Like I mentioned above, the ink is just smooth and perfect and the pigment is bright and bold.
Baron Fig Confidant Hardcover Notebook - Estimated Retail Value $18.00 (similar linked)
Although I fancy myself a stationery addict just as much as a pen aficionado, I'm not familiar with the Baron Fig name. Similar to Moleskin, this notebook is high-quality with a black cloth hardcover with a yellow page marker. The front has a nameplate to add your information in case it goes missing, and the 192 acid-free pages are lined with soft grey ink. I'm excited to dive into this lovely notebook with my thoughts and dreams so I can keep everything organized.
Line of Trade Machined Steel Bottle Opener - Retail Value $25.00
The final item of the box comes from Line of Trade in the form of a heavy, sturdy black steel bottle opener. Its simple design is super pleasing and makes it easy to use. There's a small leather strap at the end so you can hang it near the fridge or keep it connected to your key ring or outdoor gear. The weight of this is simply fantastic and it gets the job done without any fear of bending or breaking. What a handsome item!
Verdict: I am madly in love with Bespoke Post and it has quickly shot to the top of my favorites list. Although this subscription is geared towards men, I think anyone with an eye for design and love of high-quality goods can appreciate it. Everything they offer is useful or full of discovery. The pen and pocket knife made my day and I know these are products that will withstand the test of time, so for $45, this box is a great deal.
