Bulu Box Weight Loss August 2019 Review
There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box Weight Loss and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:
Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items. This month, the information card indicated there would be 2x the healthy snacks, and there was definitely more in the box than usual. I’m not sure if this is going to be a regular thing or was just a special for this month.
There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box, although sometimes they do. There was an excessive amount of product literature this month. For what it’s worth, the watch coupon expired in January. The others seemed to be current.
Bakery on Main Gluten-Free Granola in Cranberry Almond Maple (1.1 oz x 2) – Buy 50 Bags for $50
This is gluten-free and is actually made with multigrain/bean crisps. I’ve had it before and it’s not bad. I like the texture and the fruit/nut/crisp ratio. Now I have a lot of it because there were also two bags in the regular version this month. It’s also vegan if that is of concern to you.

Certified Piedmontese All Natural Beef Jerky in Hickory (1.25 oz x 2) – Buy 4 Bags for $15.95
I am a vegetarian and my husband is not a jerky fan so I passed this along to someone else. I don’t know how much jerky costs but this seems to be a premium product since each of these little bags is worth like $4 on its own. It’s kind of nice that this is tied into one of the ads from earlier, as well, so you can test a little of their product line before making a purchase. This is from the Piedmontese breed of cattle raised at ranches in the American Midwest.

J-Gen (2 powder packets) – Buy 30 Packets for $22.00
This is an anti-aging supplement. It has collagen, which is good for skin, hair, and nails, and hyaluronic acid, which is good for the joints. However, neither of those are vegetarian so I was unable to try this. It also has some antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that may help fight aging as well, or just provide general nutrition that’s good for your skin. There is nothing sketchy in here and all the ingredients seem pretty safe. If you don’t want to take a bunch of separate pills or buy 3 or 4 different powders, this could be a nice mix for you. It is fruit flavored so you could drink it alone or mix it into a smoothie.

Dermactin-TS Line Eraser (2 foil packets) – Buy 0.34 oz for $9.74
This is supposed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But it is tinted to a tone that doesn’t work for my skin at all (makes me look orange, and is probably also too light for people with darker skin; I guess that’s the purpose of the iron oxides in the ingredients list). You might be able to get this to work under makeup and get over the skin tone issue. This doesn’t actually treat the fine lines and wrinkles from what I can tell, it is more of a concealer-type product.

Pure Essence Ionic Fizz Magnesium Plus in Raspberry Lemonade (4 servings) – Buy 12.06 oz for $29.99
This is a magnesium supplement that seems to be a competitor for Natural Calm, which is something I do like. Magnesium can help with muscle pain (think about taking a bath in Epsom salts) and blood pressure and *may* help you sleep better. It also may help with constipation. I find this best to drink on its own (it takes over the flavor of smoothies) and it does mix pretty well if you use a little more water than recommended and leave it for a bit. Don’t take it every day for a long period or you could have problems with dropping calcium levels (magnesium and calcium compete for binding sites on some cells and an oversupply of magnesium may lead to issues), but for a couple of days in a row or every now and then, or every day if you also take a calcium supplement, you’ll be fine.

Ultimate Nutrition Flavored BCAA in Ruby Red Candy (1 serving) – Buy 30 Servings for $32.99
I do like to use BCAA powder from time to time. It helps with repair of muscles after weight lifting so it can be useful for preventing delayed onset muscle soreness. This was a brand I hadn’t tried before and the flavor is not bad. I like that it is sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame K, because a lot of these products are sweetened with stevia, which I just don’t like the flavor of. (I don’t have a problem with artificial sweeteners, for what it’s worth.) Anyway, I was happy to try this out and it’s relatively affordable for a product of this type so I’d consider it for a future purchase as well. This was kind of tart but it contains citric acid (many of these products do) so that was not surprising.
Skinny Stix 3-Flavor Packets (2 count, 6 packets) – Buy 30 Packets for $29.99
These are water add-ins but do read the ingredients because they are not just flavors, they actually contain a lot of stimulants. They have three different sources of caffeine (guarana, yerba mate, coffee extract) and there are a lot of warnings about not taking other caffeine-containing products while consuming these. I am on blood pressure medicine so I opted not to chug a whole stick’s worth, but I did sip each one, and I think the berry flavor was my favorite. If you are going to try a product like this, I do appreciate getting all three flavors. (You can buy variety packs if you don’t have a strong preference, and there are some other package sizes available with discounts for large quantities.)
Verdict: This month’s box had 15 samples, so they’d average about $0.67 each. Although the jerky obviously wasn’t for me, there was so much stuff in the box to try that I sort of didn’t miss one or two samples, you know? I do like the granola and the BCAA powder was a great discovery, and I’ll use the magnesium fizzy drinks too. I don’t know how focused on weight loss this month was, but I guess the Skinny Stix are weight loss-related, and the BCAA powder at least relates to working out, but some months are more fat-burning-focused than others.
I’d strongly recommend using a coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both, since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, September would be your first shipment. Also keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
