California Found July 2019 Review

California Found Subscription Box July 2019 - Booklet Front

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative. It also points out that they donate 10% of their profit every month to a charitable cause, and this month they are donating to Surfrider Foundation. Also, they have added a Golden Ticket contest - so if you find one in your sizzle, you get a free box for yourself or a friend!

California Found Subscription Box July 2019 - Hydrating Hair Serum by Belle And Beast Organics Front

"I Woke Up Like This" Hydrating Hair Serum by Belle & Beast Organics, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $16

California Found has sent products from Belle & Beast Organics in the past, and it's good stuff! My favorite beauty products are those that are made with wholesome ingredients, and B&BO only makes products that are organic, vegan and cruelty-free. My test for hair oils and serums is simple: Does it make my hair look healthier but not greasy? This serum is a winner! Passed the test! Belle & Beast Organics is based in South Pasadena, California.

California Found Subscription Box July 2019 - Revive Mason Straw, Lid Glass Straw And Brush Set By Simply Straws Front California Found Subscription Box July 2019 - Revive Mason Straw, Lid Glass Straw And Brush Set By Simply Straws Top California Found Subscription Box July 2019 - Revive Mason Straw, Lid Glass Straw And Brush Set By Simply Straws Front 2

Revive Mason Straw Lid, Glass Straw & Brush Set by Simply Straws - Listed Value $20

I am completely aligned with the spirit of Simply Straws, a company out of Costa Mesa, California that creates glass and steel straws as an alternative to disposable plastic straws. I think plastic straws are hugely wasteful and just clog up the oceans and landfills for no good reason. However, glass and steel straws terrify me. Some child is going to poke an eye out if they haven't already. I don't actually know why we need straws at all except maybe under rare mouth injury circumstances. Just drink right out of the glass! Having said all that, the mason jar is really cute, and I can always use more of them!

Calm the Viking Herbal Tea by Luna Tea Co. (1.5 oz.) - Listed Value $15
Tea Infuser by Luna Tea Co. - Listed Value $13

I went to look up the tea online and found that sadly, Luna Tea Co. has gone out of business! It looks like at least it was by choice, but that's still a bummer. This tea is so good, and I have had the pleasure of sampling several Luna teas in the past. I love ginger tea, especially when you can taste the real, natural ginger like this one. I was also really happy and excited to get a new tea infuser! And this one is so cool with a crystal on the end. I love it!

Free Spirit Sterling & Brass Bead Necklace by Jasmine Jewelry - Listed Value $48

Look at how beautiful this necklace is! I couldn't find this exact piece online, so I am not sure what it is made of, but it sure is pretty. If I am not mistaken, it's brass and sterling on a sterling chain. The only issue is that it's a very short chain, probably a choker on most people, and it has an unusual magnetic clasp. If it had a regular clasp, I could use a chain extender to wear it, but as it is, I can't. It's too short for my neck. That's so disappointing! My eleven-year-old son is modeling it in the picture above, but I suppose I could gift it to one of my nieces. This is an awesome inclusion for subscribers with slender necks.

The Verdict: California Found is one of my favorite subscription boxes, and I look forward to it so much every month! Having said that, this was not my favorite month. I was disappointed by the necklace, and I am sort of opposed to rigid straws, so it just was kind of a miss for me. I do love the tea and infuser, though! California Found has a promised value of $90, which is outstanding, but this month's total value comes to $112! And the box only cost $49! That's amazing!

I love silicone straws from Mighty Fix.

I have stainless straws with silicon covers for the tips. I really like them. I am going to look at the silicone straws from Mighty Fix though, they sound cool! I need to sign up again, I loved that subscription.

I also use oversized silicone straws and love them. I have health issues and straws are a wonderful help to me.

I love the jewelry in California Found sub boxes, and this months necklace was especially nice. It arrived broken on one end, but my husband was able to repair the broken link. I was impressed with the excellent communication with the business owner regarding a possible replacement piece if needed. I also received my first glass straw. Using it, and the mason jar daily. What a fun addition for summer! I recently resubscribed to this box after taking awhile off due to finances. So glad to have it again. Thoughtful curation. Really look forward to seeing it in the mail!

This is still a great box, and some of the nicest jewelry, but I miss the greeting cards they used to have each month. Even though I know some people didn’t care for them. I am glad to see less candles.

I love the cards also. I’ve used them many a time for birthdays, etc. Its great to have them on hand so I don’t have to rush out and buy a card.
I also have enjoyed the candles, for me I can never have enough! Haven’t kept my candle subs because I’ve received ones from CA Found, Margot Elena etc. So saves me some money!

I don’t like the feel of metal or glass straws, either! For times when straws are needed around our house, I have gotten biodegradable paper straws. They feel the most like the old plastic straws–but they do fall apart after several hours (I guess that’s the point lol).

I agree…I’m still in search of the perfect plastic straw replacement. I had a Bloody Mary with a pasta straw in it at a restaurant and that was absolutely divine but I’m thinking that wouldn’t work with much else beyond bloody Mary’s since the pasta taste does impact the beverage (it just happens to work perfectly for a Bloody Mary),

Having worked in a restaurant once upon a time, I’m grateful for straws since I know the glasses (especially those from the bar) often don’t get cleaned as well as they should. I’m still hopeful someone will come up with something else that doesn’t impart an odd flavor or doesn’t disintegrate too quickly. I find the reusable glass and metal straws to be hard to clean and they can create a bit of a wet mess in my handbag if I’m not careful.

Yes, Karen, all of what you said! : ) The hunt continues!
