Cat Claws Club August 2019 Review
This subscription is pretty heavy on the toys and is often, but not always, holiday-themed. This is also one of the only cat subscriptions where you get scratch pads regularly. Let’s see what was in the box this month:
There’s usually a booklet with more information on the items. There was also a card asking you to share on social media.
Square Scratcher
I couldn’t find this in the Cat Claws shop, and it’s an exclusive item, and they don’t really even have anything similar (these are a bit sturdier than the cheap ones you can get on Amazon, so there’s a quality difference to take into account). Anyway, this was a pretty big hit, with Madison and Sneaky scratching it right away. This is the only subscription I know of that regularly sends scratchers, and you will get all shapes and sizes.
Fishy Lure Wand - Retail Value $9.95
Wand toys are Angus’s favorite and he played with this a lot (see some action shots below). This one has an interchangeable toy at the end so if your toy is destroyed (this one seems sturdy) or you have different cats with different toy preferences, there’s a little something for everyone.
Go Cat Kitty Puff – Retail Value $3.95
Here is another dangler for the wand. Madison is a big fan of feathers but not so willing to chase dangler toys, but Sneaky liked this pretty well. Madison and Monkey also liked rubbing their faces on it. Well, whatever works.
Penn Plax Play Teether – Buy a 3 pack for $16.99
Nylon chews (what the ends are made of here) are popular for dogs, but I had never seen a cat bite one until I took the photos below. Angus knows what to do here (and coincidentally, he is the one whose teeth need the most work).
FYI, I think there was supposed to be another item this month, this toy here. I haven’t heard back from Cat Claws Club customer service yet but the last time I had an issue, they took care of it very quickly – all I had to do was send an email. I do think receiving this would’ve rounded out the value a little bit.
Gratuitous cat photos:
Angus plays with the teether and the wand toy.
Madison inspects the teether and then scratches the scratch pad. You can see some size context for the scratch pad with him in the photo (he weighs about 11.5 pounds).
Monkey doesn’t want to leave his window. (FYI I think Angus took a swipe at Monkey’s nose.)
Sneaky liked the wand but I didn’t get any good action shots. She wouldn’t bite the stick part, though. At least, not this time.
Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for this month’s box because the scratcher was exclusive and the teether toy wasn’t available for individual sale. If you take the average of the four items I received, you get $8.48, or if you assume the fifth item was supposed to be included, you get about $6.78 per item. Although the box did seem thin this month, I have to say, my cats really enjoyed everything, and other months have been better. The wand and attachments are well-made and I think they’ll last us quite awhile.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, Cat Claws Club ships once every other month. Your first box would be October's box if you signed up now. (But, many of the items are available for individual purchase from CatClaws.com.)
Value Breakdown: This box costs $33.90 (subscription plus shipping) so you are paying about $8.48 per item.
