KitNipBox August 2019 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a college theme:

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Booklet Front Top Kitnip Box August 2019 - Booklet Back Top

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Rubber Bouncing Balls Top

Playful Pet Atomic Ball 2-Pack – Listed Value $3

Angus thought these were fun. But he kept knocking them down right before the camera went off. Sneaky also thought they were fun, but in a very different way (which you can see below).

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Text Book Toy Top

Safemade All Nip Textbook – Listed Value $6

This is a bit crinkly so it makes noise, but the main draw for my crew seemed to be the canvas-like texture of the outer covering. Monkey licks toys like this until they are wet, which is a little weird, but whatever makes him happy is fine with me (I guess).

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Caramel Corn Top

Leap Caramel Corn Snack Time Pillow – Listed Value $5

Snacks were definitely part of my college experience (everyone lived on campus and had the same meal plan but I didn’t like the food in the dining hall so I ate a lot of junk from the 7-11/Christy’s/Ben and Jerry’s shop/etc.). But I digress. Anyway, this is a soft pillow toy and it is just the kind of thing I catch Monkey playing with when he thinks I’m not looking. I have put it where he is sure to find it tomorrow morning.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Door Hanger Top

Playful Pet Tug-n-Treat – Listed Value $7

I am not sure that any of my cats are smart enough to figure this out. If you pull (kind of hard) on the puff ball, it opens a compartment and treats fall out. The treats provided in this box are a perfect fit for this toy, by the way. You can hang it from a doorknob. If I had to guess, I’d say Madison would be the most likely to figure it out, but I can’t leave treats around because Angus can’t have them due to his IBD. My cats seemed to enjoy playing with it in incorrect/unintended ways, though.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Dorm Top

All for Paws Dormitory Crinkle Kicker – Listed Value $5

This has a somewhat different shape from the caramel corn pillow, and the two sides have totally different textures. Also this one is noisy. This is another one I expect Monkey will have fun with tomorrow morning so I’ve put it in the room where he likes to spend his mornings.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Laundry Top

‘R Squad All Nip Laundry Bag – Listed Value $5

This one was Angus’s favorite thing in the box. He really liked the drawstrings on the laundry bag. You can see him playing with it below. It held up well even though he was somewhat violent with it.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Crunchy Cat Treats Top

Wellness Kittles Turkey and Cranberries, 2 oz – Retail Value $2.37

These are crunchy treats from a good brand that show up fairly regularly in cat subscription boxes. They come in quite a few flavors. I don’t know if the cats particularly care as they are enthusiastic about all the flavors. Anyway, Sneaky and Madison both liked these.

Gratuitous cat photos:

Angus shows his teeth and claws. Angus, buddy, enjoy those teeth while you have them, because in a few years, you probably won’t. (Angus has some serious dental disease. I took him in for a cleaning last week – which cost me $431 – and they removed three teeth. But he also had already lost three teeth that I didn’t know about. He is only three years old and this doesn’t bode well for his future. But at least we know to be on the lookout now so we can address problems sooner rather than later.)

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Madison 1 Closup Top Kitnip Box August 2019 - Madison 2 Top

Madison eats a treat and inspects a rubber ball.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Monkey 1 Closup Front Kitnip Box August 2019 - Monkey 2 Closup Front Kitnip Box August 2019 - Monkey 3 Top

Monkey decides the rubber ball is good for tooth-rubbing. And then he laid down so I piled toys on him.

Kitnip Box August 2019 - Sneaky 1 Closup Front Kitnip Box August 2019 - Sneaky 2 Top

I was super cautious with Sneaky and she still made me bleed when passing out treats. Also I was somewhat surprised that she could fit this whole thing in her mouth. (Sneaky likes to bite rubber and silicone items. She stole a silicone trivet from the kitchen once, and she had an absolute obsession with a door stopper I used to have in my old condo.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $33.37 for the August KitNipBox, which is above the cost of the box by a few dollars. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like KitNipBox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. There were several different textures and fabrics on the toys this month, and my cats appreciated these. Angus also enjoyed the stringy toys. And the treat dispenser toy is a fun idea if you can teach your cat how to use it (some cats are just good at those sorts of things, but most of mine are not).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first KitNipBox will ship right after your payment processes, so you should still be able to get August’s box if you sign up now.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $29.99 including free shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $4.28.

Typo at the beginning of the review says that it’s a safari theme, rather than college themed.
