Lip Monthly August 2019 Review
Our theme for this month is "Beauty Time" and it looks like they have chosen to forego the listed items and values which they have sometimes used in the past. Instead, there is a note about how summer is flying by (yes!) and that the lippies we are receiving are "stellar!"
Each month, Lip Monthly sends their products in a little soft fabric makeup bag which is just a bit bigger than an iPhone plus (although not quite big enough to fit one inside). This burnt orange bag with little starfish all over is fitting for the end of summer!
Hikari Lip Liner in Playful - Retail Value $15.00
The first product I tried this month was a lip liner from Hikari, which is a brand that is no stranger to these bags. I love the slim and sleek square-shaped tube and how small and precise that point is. The color is also really pretty and one I could see myself wearing, but unfortunately, this liner is so very firm that it was difficult to use! I'm thinking that maybe my tube is older because this color is currently out of stock and the description reads "glides on smoothly, stays creamy" and it does neither of those things.
Here I have it on over my entire lip and it really took some work to get it on since it was so dry.
Luna by Luna Lip Oil in Cosmo- Retail Value $18
I have actually received this product before (in another color, Queen, in my October 2018 bag) and it is one that I like! It feels more like a gloss than a lip oil to me, but it is hydrating and while it is supposed to provide some sheer color, I don't notice much on my lips. The unique gel texture is supposed to help minimize fine lines and wrinkles in your lips and since I sort of forgot about this one in my stash, I'll have to test it out again once winter comes and my dry lips resume!
Here is the lip oil on. Just a touch of shine!
Doop Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Peak
This lip gloss is just so pretty with the frosted glass tube and that metallic shimmer peeking through! I also really like the applicator which is flat on both sides and this sparkly gloss is just such a pretty color. This brand must also be really new because a quick search didn't even bring it up and they are all listed as "coming soon." That being said, I am not even sure what to estimate this at, although their site does say that they want to provide "high-quality, high-performing products without the high-end price." The gloss itself isn't super long-lasting, but I do like the formula and only find it a tad sticky. It also has a slight vanilla scent to it which I always enjoy!
Here is the gloss on. It definitely has a lot of shine to it!
ModelCo Lipstick in Tango Pink
This little lipstick tube is pretty fun since it appears to be completely monochromatic right down to the lipstick inside! It also has a really fun passionfruit (or "tango" scent) when you apply it. I could not find this lipstick online anywhere nor could I find anything comparable. The formula for this one is creamy and smooth and it actually has pretty decent staying power. The color might have a bit too much orange for me, but I like wearing this one since it goes on so smoothly and provides such even color!
Here is the lipstick on. Just one swipe provides a lot of pigment!
Here it is with a swipe of the Doop gloss over it. You can see how much it amps up the color!
Here they are swatched. In order from top to bottom, they are ModelCo, Doop, Luna by Luna, and Hikari.
Verdict: I was pleased with the colors I received this month from Lip Monthly and the only real miss for me was that Hikari liner since it was so hard to use and possibly dried out. Had the formula been creamy and smooth I think it would be an easy winner though since I liked the packaging and color! I am happy that this month's colors had a lot of pigment (other than the lip oil) and they finally seemed to stray away from the nude colors that I am not a fan of! While I couldn't find the retail values for some items this month, I still think it's a pretty great value for $12.95 since that means you are only paying $3.24 for each lip product!
