Macy's Beauty Box August 2019 Review

Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included:

And just like Ipsy, with each box you’ll receive a new makeup bag:

This lip-covered bag is very cute and has an '80s feel.

Now, on to the items!

SK-II Facial Treatment Mask - Estimated Value $13.90 (Buy 10 masks for $139.00)

I really enjoy this pricy brand when I get samples, and this mask was ALMOST a hit. The serum on it is delightful, and my skin couldn't get enough of it. The downside is that to hold all that delightful serum the mask material is so thick it doesn't properly form to a face. It was a really poor-fitting mask. The upside is that there was quite a bit of serum left in the bottom of the pouch so I used it to rub all over my face after I removed the mask.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber & Green Tea, 2 fl oz - Estimated Value $3.00 (Buy a full-size 8 fl oz for $12.00)

Ya'll know your girl loves a face spritz! This one is delightfully summery, filled with aloe, cucumber, green tea, and a tiny bit of peppermint leaf water for a cool tingle. It has a nice mist nozzle, so no worries about getting shot in the eye by an aggressive jet of mist. This feels SO nice after a day outside, especially if you keep it in the fridge.

TONYMOLY Mini Cherry Lip Balm, 7 g - Retail Value $10.00

I literally squealed when I opened this little cherry balm. It is PRECIOUS. The stem is flexible, which just adds to the cuteness factor. Inside is a balm with a very natural and subtle red tint and of course, it has a delicious fruity scent.

tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in 'Rose', 1 ml - Estimated Value $3.33 (Buy a full-size 6 ml for $20.00)

This color was a miss for me, even though it was almost pink enough to work. It ended up being almost the exact shade of my lips which made it kind of pointless, especially since the more it dried the warmer it looked. The formula was good for a matte, lasting about 4 hours before I ruined it by eating a lunch with loads of olive oil. If you love a true nude lip and a good matte formula, you will probably be pretty pleased with this lippy!

I just need a litttttle biiiit more color!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, 1.2 g  - Full Size! Retail Value $22.00

There is something about this particular shade of blue that I have always really liked. As a liner? I am not sure about that. It seems a little loud for my taste, but I can't give it away because the shade is so gorgeous. Maybe I just use a little on my lashline? Like the world's thinnest line? The formula itself is opaque and seemed to do a good job of staying in place until I rubbed my eye pretty aggressively. Maybe I am not responsible enough for this liner.

I love this color, but maybe not as a liner.

Juicy Couture Oui Eau de Parfum, 0.05 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.54 (Buy a full-size 3.4 fl oz for $105.00)

I fully expected to hate this perfume. On paper, this is a big NO for my fragrance preferences. Watermelon and lemon? Heck no. Too sweet. Too fruity. Well, those notes have a great base of jasmine and tuberose that make them feel much more mature, and there is also a lingering wood note. Would I buy this scent for myself? Nah, I don't like it enough to pay $105. But I would happily recommend it to someone looking for a surprisingly sophisticated fruity scent in a very pretty bottle.

Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box was really enjoyable! I think this is directly due to that cherry lip balm and the green tea mist. I would happily have bought both of those items at full price. The blue eyeliner really isn't realistic for me, but into my collection it goes. I just love a good blue! The sheet mask was ok, and the extra serum in the bottle absolutely made up some for the bad fit. The lipstick was a pass for me, but that is ok. Nudes are hard! The perfume was a nice surprise and I can't wait to add my thoughts to the notebook I keep full of scent impressions. I will never decline a perfume sample! The overall value of this box lands somewhere around $53.77 which is more than fine for a $15 box with 2 full-size items and other generous samples.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Put the blue liner right over a black one. You get a toned down version of the color, sort of the opposite of when you put a bright over a white base. I think you’ll love it.

Good review. I think the liner would look just fine on you if you did a thin line. Even on your outer eye/ lashes. You could pull that off.a

It just occurred to me that I could cancel my 2nd Birchbox and get Macy’s instead. Hmmm.

Those sheet masks are my favorite.

Awesome review, thanks Megan!

I haven’t tried the lip yet, it looked a bit too pale for me, so I was waiting for your review to see if I was right. 😀 Looks like I’ll be passing this one off.

The blue liner was so pretty, that will be a great gift for my 80’s loving youngest. I will probably give her the cherry balm, as much as I want to keep it! Her birthday is in October, so I guess I will be nice. 😉

I put the face spray in the fridge and it is a perfect summer spritz!

I’ve been cancelling subscriptions as I pare down to my favorites, and Macy’s keeps making the cut month after month. I hope they keep it up!

Thanks Twyla! Maybe next time we get a nude that works? Hmm. Major props for being so generous about the cherry balm. Mine hasn’t left my purse!

We can always hope for a good workable nude! 🙂 LOL As much as I would adore keeping the cherry balm I will give it to her for her birthday in October along with other goodies I have been stashing away.

It really is cute as heck though, and if her birthday wasn’t coming up I would totally snag it for myself!

Macy’s has been killin’ it lately!

I am terrified of using blue liners like that too, I feel you lol but yes maybe just a thin line down below? I have a couple of colorful eyeshadows in some of my favorite palettes going to waste because I’m afraid of those colors I’ll have to start using them as a thin liner as well

I did what they showed on the Macy’s video. I used my regular color on top (Urban Decay in Cockroach) and used the blue, sparingly, on the bottom lashes. It was quite pretty!

I don’t use makes but this one (the royal Cate Blanchett is the face of the brand) I’ll keep it for myself. This brand is insanely crazy!

I used to sub to this box last year but stopped due receiving boring items and tiny samples. The last several reviews have definitely made me reconsider my decision and I may be resubbing in the near future!!

I haven’t tried the SKII mask yet, but your description of it reminds me of the Peter Thomas Un-Wrinkle 24K Gold sheet mask. The serum was awesome, and I actually did see a difference in my skin, but the fit was horrible because the material was super thick, and because of its weight it kept feeling like it was going to fall off. Even though I thought its performance was great (I just grabbed whatever serum was left over and massaged it into my skin), I still would never purchase it (or even use it again… I ended up gifting all of the ones I had) because the experience of using it was not fun at all…. for me, the experience of using a product is just as important as its performance. Despite you saying this was a thick sheet mask, I’m holding out hope that I’ll like the SKII mask. 🙂

Fingers crossed! At the very least, the serum is dreamy.

I have had very little success with the Tarte matte paint, unfortunately. Most nude shades are unflattering on me, as well. The Tarte formula dries to show all my lip lines, but that may be my age lol! I’ve found a creamy, low shine lipstick works wonders for lips of a certain age!

I think that cherry lip balm is SUPER cute! I hate dipping my finger in the pot, but so many balms I like are packaged that way (Korres and BKR come to mind). Still, I’m a sucker for girlie things like that.

Thank you, Megan, for a fun, informative review!!

OH, ps–If you like the Mario B spray, I have the lavender one, and it smells SO fresh and invigorating. But you have to like lavender. I love it sprayed on a cotton round and applied as a toner after cleansing!

Megan K.

Lavender is my catnip! I will absolutely have to grab some of that. I bet it is heaven before bed time!

I love using a royal blue eyeliner, especially in summer! But my eyes are very deep set, and my lids are pretty hooded, so intense eye choices read much subtler on me!
But definitely give it a whirl, maybe with that too neutral neutral lip! And loads of mascara.

I pretty much only wear colored eyeliner and no black or brown. I am getting ready to replace my eyeliner collection (they are getting old, and you are not supposed to keep such things forever) and I will probably get that color because it looks fun. (I don’t say “buy” because I have accumulated enough Ulta points to get a lot of UD eyeliners for free.)

On the other hand, I despise face sprays although they sometimes work for me as toners.

Great review as usual !! I always have an issue with sheet masks, plus with an oily t zone I don’t always need moisturizers on my nose. So I always cut mine up and put the pieces where I want to get a better fit. I put the extra pieces on my neck or chest to give those areas a little extra love.

Megan K.

Genuis! I wish I had thought of this..

I always cut mine too, since I have to cut the nose flap from the eyeholes so that the sheet doesn’t lift away from the under eye area. A little snip snip and the mask is much more comfortable!
