Oui Please Homme Volume 1.5 "The New Yorker" Review
Oui Please Homme comes in a sleek gift box with magnetic closures that you can reuse. This box contains a pair of sneakers that I ordered in my friend Kev's size that didn't fit in the gift box and came packaged in a larger outer cardboard box. Kev loves clothes and looking sharp so I respect his taste. He'll be helping me review all of the items this month from a much needed male perspective.
The gift box has black tissue paper sealed with a sticker hiding your goodies.
Let's dive in, shall we?
Faguo Ivy Sneaker in Navy & Cream, size UK 45 (US Men's 11) - Retail Value $105.93 USD (95,00 €)
Seeing these sneakers as a spoiler is what prompted me to ask Kev to help me review this box because he is a total shoe addict. His interest was immediately piqued, so I went ahead and requested a size 11.5 for him. The size chart says that a UK 46 should work, but we received a 45 and they fit him perfectly, so phew! Kev and I were both impressed by the quality and although he thought the colorway wouldn't normally be something he went for, they really grew on him. He said they were incredibly comfortable but the only drawback is the insole always tried to escape when he took them off.
Here they are on. Kev said they are perfect for long pants. I'll call this a win for sure!
Faguo White Crew Sock Trio - Retail Value $26.76 USD (24,00 €)
Next up is a pack of three crew socks from Faguo, the same brand as the shoes. They came in white with yellow, orange, and blue stripes. They're made of 73% cotton, 25% polyester, 2% elastane which is not bad for a sport sock. I always think the more cotton, the better. Kev says they're comfy, thin, and breathable without being flimsy. Sounds like they're great for summer or fall.
Faguo Braided Light Grey & Navy Belt - Retail Value $39.03 USD (35,00 €, linked to similar)
This belt is so handsome, in my opinion. I love the speckled grey color and the way it's woven makes it super sturdy. You can tell the leather accents and buckle are well made and this has a polished look with still being casual enough to wear with chinos or jeans.
Malou & Marius Gym Tonique Face Mask - Retail Value $13.01 USD (11,67 €)
I could barely contain my excitement once Kev agreed to try this sheet mask out. I adore masking, and I want everyone I know to experience it too. He sent me some photos of him wearing it, and to protect you from nightmares, I won't share them here (we have all seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre, right?). Kev said his face felt fresh and tingly and that the mask fit well without being too gloopy. Overall, he said it was a "really nice experience" and it made his face feel great. Yay!
Archiman Moisturizing Face Gel, 50 mL - Retail Value $39.03 USD (35,00 €)
I received a face cleanser in the last Oui Please Homme I reviewed and it quickly became a favorite of mine. Since I already have so many lovely skincare products, I thought I'd let Kev keep this one since he doesn't really have a skincare routine. I assumed it was a cleanser since it's referred to as a "gel" but it's actually a lightweight moisturizer. Kev said it was a little tingly like the mask (almost like an aftershave) and that it "smells like old man products but not in a bad way". 😂 He didn't find it greasy at all and thought his skin felt more balanced since his is normally on the oily side. I think we have a winner!
Linhart Linämel Toothpaste - Retail Value $12.00
Next, we have the first of what they are calling the Linhart Trio. This toothpaste is thick and has a slight anise taste I could pick out right away in addition to theobromine (a cocoa bean extract), fluoride, aloe vera, and xylitol (which helps tooth decay). I found it to be almost... smoky. But it made my teeth feel clean, which is the #1 most important thing. Kev seemed to like it just fine as well. I don't think he has a lot of thoughts about toothpaste. Weird, right?
Linhart Nano-Silver Toothbrush - Retail Value $8.00
They've included a toothbrush as well which Kev liked since he was in need of a new one. This one is made with black nano-silver-infused bristles that kill 99% of harmful bacteria. Noice! The handle is clear plastic with white rubber accents that make it quite comfortable to brush with and even comes with a little brush-head case for travel.
Linhart Lip Balm - Retail Value $4.50
The last of the trio is a lip balm. Kev wasn't keen on it since he said that his lips get too glossy for his liking with a balm and makes it look like he's wearing lipstick. Fair enough. I think he should still keep this in a winter coat pocket for when it starts getting ultra-dry out there. It has SPF 15 and comes in a fresh spearmint flavor.
Paris Versus New York by Vahram Muratyan - Retail Value $20.00 (found here for $12.00)
This petite little gift book didn't particularly grab me or Kev, but the illustrations are quite cute. It certainly fits the theme of "The New Yorker" of course in addition to the whole French thing. 😉 The book goes through various ways the two cities are different through similar comparisons. It's filled with bright colors and cool graphic pages that would make a good gift for a transplant from one of the two cities to the other.
Oui Love It Classic Madeleines - Retail Value $8.30
This bag of French baked goods comes with 8 individually wrapped cakey buttery treats. Kev was delighted to see that they are gluten-free as well since he adheres to that very diet. He said they were "sick" (which means freakin' awesome in Kev-speak) and he would never have thought that they were gluten-free upon taste. High praise!
The Verdict: This month's Oui Please Homme had a total value of $268.56 which is more than $100 over the cost. Sacre bleu! I thought everything in here looked awesome, MSA's own Andy chatted me while photographing it to tell me how nice it looked, and my friend Kev was really pleased with his first-ever subscription box! He really ended up loving the shoes, was surprised by the wonderful mask experience, and really enjoyed those GF madeleines! While I'm not sure he'd splurge on something like this himself, I think most guys who are interested in high-quality and more luxurious items would be very pleased with this.
